Accurate depiction of SKX31 SKX31 (Spongebob) going to track the Chinese reactions to a LoL guessing game:

Featuring myself as Squidward.
Yeah, that's an accurate summary of how that would go. Or if I ever decided to add the Korean reactions to that too. Because... ooof. Where does one even begin? And that's beyond the usual suspects (like the trolls that'd suggest unpopular characters or :teemo:) :

You'd have a really large audience that's overall intensely familiar with LoL but not so much Smash / Nintendo at large. Smash especially: it's still rather niché in the country. So you'd have lots of people who have not much of a clue which LoL character would fit a Smash game to begin with. This is also an audience that would largely have Ultimate as their first Smash game. The only Smash game that's seen an official release there so far is 64, and that's on the ill-fated iQue. Any people familiar with Smash got the games via grey-market imports, primarily from Japan.

Then add to that the competitive players: The Chinese pro league (LPL) not only sends 4 teams to this year's World Championship, but it's one of the most popular streams in China period. The top LoL players are amongst the most famous young Chinese people too. Like Uzi, a now-retired carry player who lead his team (Royal Never Give Up, RNG) to multiple deep World Championship runs. His retirement was the biggest news story bar none there. Not kidding. They'd be asked to chime in on the guessing game, and casters / social media guys would remind people to vote for which they'd think would get in.

And oh, how many Chinese do watch the LoL World Championships? Especially when there's a Chinese team involved and deep in the bracket?

Up to 100 million Chinese watched the 2019 Final. And when 2 Chinese teams met each other in the 2018 Final, the claim was 200 million.

I don't care if the number turns out (somewhat) untrue in reality. The article involved has virals videos of university students in dormitories celebrating the 2019 win. Lots of them. Fact of the matter is: LoL is now such a huge deal in China that if a guessing game were to happen for Smash...

Take the exact same arguments people made here on Smashboards during the ARMS guessing game. Now, imagine millions of people debating those very same topics (like Sakurai favorite, who Nintendo / Tencent would pick etc.). Possibly for months. With many of them knowing less about Smash than most here due to a relative lack of exposure. And also, the possible collective burnout.

Needless to say, the entire Chinese internet would explode if there was a LoL guessing game for Smash.

Yeah, BotW and 3H have neutral protagonists. Pokemon doesn't unless we count the trainers, but they aren't the star of the show.
That being said, Byleth was chosen in advance, while the Champions have been around long enough for some fan-favorites to be established. There's a bit more wiggle room for one the Champions to be chosen over the other.
That said though - and I haven't been keeping an eye out for the Champions much since I haven't played BOTW just yet: Are there any of the Champions that stand as a clear favorite? I'd imagine Urbosa since she's the one most talked about, but given that the Champions are getting screentime in AoC it's worth asking. Koei might lean towards giving the fan favorite a lot of the screentime.

I wonder what would happen if we get two characters in the same DLC pack

Obviously it's not gonna happen, just thinking

Now I kinda want an LoL guessing game, just so I can see the carnage with my own eyes...

Anyways, apparently Mipha and Urbosa are pretty closely matched in the West, though according to an official twitter poll Mipha is the most popular. In Japan, though, apparently Mipha is the fan-favorite by a large margin.

Long story short, fish win.

Even if promotion is everything, Min Min is proof that you've got to expand your horizons. Nintendo isn't solely interested in advertising Pokemon SS and Hyrule Warriors Calamity.

Basically this thread needs to learn to compromise. Don't have people unironically act like Goomba is a lock, but also don't be insistent on every upcoming character being Crash or your favorite green-armored shooter.
I know that. In fact, the series I singled out as most likely is neither of those.

I'm also not in either of those extremes. I think 3rd parties are generally more likely than 1st parties, but I highly doubt it's gonna be all Crash, Master Chief, and whoever else the thread's thinking of.

Also, does anyone else get annoyed by talk of a Breath of the Wild character getting added to Smash? Not that Zelda doesn't deserve it, but it's just exhausting to keep hearing about it over and over and over again and not really be interesting in the first place.
?

When was the last time we talked about a Zelda anything before the announcement?

do you guys think they're satisfied with the sales for FPV2 so far that they're in no rush for the next reveal? someone on era brought up the possibility

i doubt Min Min ALONE would drive sales, but it's not like I have actual sales data on me so
At the same time, why delay the reveal for CP7 if they're already done and the Sakurai Presents video would've been filmed 1-2 months ago?

Rex and Pyra/Mythra, probably.
Yeah, I'm not sure how Pyra and Mythra act mechanically, but they would technically make Rex a duo character along the lines of Banjo & Kazooie.

Watch we get a Champions guessing game for the next fight between Urbosa, Revati, Mipha and Darus.
Plz no. Guessing games are bad as it is, we don't need waifu wars on top of it.

Considering what Venus said, the thing getting little sales, I doubt its selling much in the first place

I know that the Driver/Blade dynamic has at least some degree of the combatants taking turns using the weapons, so at the very least Pyra and Mythra wouldn't be just sitting on the sidelines. I haven't actually played XC2, though, so I'm not entirely sure on the specifics. Is anyone able to explain that?

Doubt it. As has been said, they're removing the pass from Japanese 7/11s and other places, and I can't imagine Min Min is enough to convince people that aren't committed to Smash like pro players. But it's not like I have access to the data, and regional anecdotes generally aren't enough, so who knows.

Abridged version: Drivers in charge of normal attacks, Blades in charge of special attacks.
