Not sure if the Miis count, since arguably, there's three of them.
: Gruntilda. Mumbo Jumbo would be nice, but after replaying Banjo-Tooie, his moves are a lot more limited than I remember them being.
: Jeanne, because Bayonetta should have her BFF in the game.
: Zoda. I have no idea why, but he's a supervillain, and they could throw some Star Tropics references in there. (it would be nice to see the series get
something in Smash)
: Terra Branford. If we're just limiting it to Final Fantasy 7, then Tifa.
: I checked to see if there were any NES Zapper games that weren't covered in Duck Hunt's moveset. The only one that I could find was Gumshoe, so I'll go with the main character from that, Mr. Stevenson. (it's a bit of a stretch, but Duck Hunt is basically a character representing the NES Zapper as a whole)
: The DragonLord. I figure it would be a nod to the first game of the series, and he's crossed over with Mario in Fortune Street on the Wii.
: the polar bear with sunglasses? He's pretty cool. (pun not intended)
: Octoling. I don't think I need to elaborate here; they're an easy clone/semi-clone, and they proved popular enough to get an entire DLC campaign dedicated to making them playable.
: Elizabeth. I haven't played much of Persona 3 or Persona 4 Arena, but she seems like she'd be entertaining, and I'd like to change it up a bit rather than just going with the protagonist from another game. If we're limiting it to Persona 5, then I'm not sure whether to go with Kasumi or Makoto.
: Mr. Sandman. With his behaviour in the Title Defense match in Punch-Out for the Wii, it's the closest that we'll get to Mike Tyson in the series.
: Sigma. Part of it is because I'm not sure whether we're still ruling out assist trophies, and part of it is because I feel like the game should have more villains.
: Dr. Coyle; if spirits had kept characters out of Smash for whatever reason, she would have been my pick for the ARMS character.
: ...are there really any options here? Not sure if I should treat this as a retro category, but I feel like that would be cheating. I see that Donkey Kong 3 got a release on the Game & Watch, so my pick is Stanley the Bugman, I guess.
: the Plasm Wraith. A weird choice, I'm sure, but I could see it working, and there are implications that it's also the Water Wraith from Pikmin 2, or at least connected to it.
: Ms. Pac-Man. I get that there's some kind of legal issues involved, though it's not bad enough to keep her from appearing in the Pac-Land stage.
: Professor Hector from Gyromite, who's basically the only option as far as I know.
: Elma. From what I've played of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, I'm not a fan of Rex. I don't want them to focus too much on the first game (otherwise, I might have picked Seven), and I think that Elma could have a pretty interesting playstyle from what I've played of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
: Raiden. Aside from the fact that he'd have a different playstyle compared to Big Boss and Snake, it would give them a reason to put Metal Gear Rising music in the game.
: I'm torn between Tails and Dr. Eggman. I'll go with Tails, though it could honestly go either way.
: Geese Howard. Though the input for his Super Special Moves would likely have to change; I have no idea how you're supposed to pull off Raging Storm, and the input for that is also known as "the Pretzel".
: Captain Syrup - I'd like to see some references to Wario Land in there beyond a single song and some spirits.
: ...the Wii Fit Balance Board? Not sure; I've only played Wii Fit once or twice.
: Kamek. I haven't played much in the way of Yoshi's games, but while Baby Bowser would play differently from Bowser Junior/the Koopalings, I feel like Kamek would be more visually distinct.
