Banjo and Ridley have some fairly similar moves, namely the forward tilt, down smash and up air.

Now the forward tilt is less noticable because it's actually themed as a move from Banjo-Tooie, but the down smash and up air, the precious few attacks in Banjo's movepool that weren't just plucked from the N64 games, definitely feel like leftovers from Ridley.

This thread'll probably hate me for this but I think the Mario tournament not happening until November is possibly pointing to something. They could have had it this week, or the week of the 18th, but they're waiting all the way till November. A Mario character for CP7 might make a lot of sense, because this would give people time to familiarize themselves with the playstyle of that character before the tourney. I'm thinking this looks good for Geno or Waluigi

They borrow things from different characters, not just the base one. So i dont think it matters.

Either way cant be sure it's really related to the new characters. but what else would cause animation bugs after release?
A lot of things, changing one thing in a game can lead to a glitch or bug in a different part of it as something in the code just gives out and they didn't notice it. They don't have to be connected to another character existing for it to happen.

While that can technically happen, I don't see why the dresses and animations would be tied to anything that would do that.
I dont think it would happen after release when most of what they change is .. well, just small updates that shouldnt change the animations.

Hot take if it’s a Mario character its gonna be toad 1. He is more recognizable than Geno and Waluigi. 2. He could work as a promotional pick for the recently announced ports (Super Mario 3D world), because he is in Super Mario Bros 2/Super Mario 3D world as a playable character.

Question is.... when would they come out?

Getting more mario characters is interesting, but i'd be a bit underwhelmed at toad.

Maybe another enemy?

I don't think that the next character strictly has to be another Mario rep.
If the next character was a Mario rep, they probably would've briefly touched on it today and told us when we could expect that character to be revealed.

Not saying the absence of F7 news has doomed every Mario character for the rest of the DLC, but it doesn't seem likely for the next character slot.

Oh yeah, I get that. DK, Wario, and Yoshi have all their own thing and are considered separate.

In terms of Geno, however, he’s a character from a Mario game, just a Mario game made by a 3rd party. It seems to me that, if he’d be added, he’d have a Mushroom icon just like the other Mario characters.

I don’t think it’s that crazy. Super Mario RPG isn’t a new series- it’s a Mario game, just not made by Nintendo.

Wario, Yoshi, and DK aren’t in the Mario Tournament because they have substantial content that coincides with their own series-Geno does not. He’s a character from a Mario game.

In my humble opinion, I think he’d have the Super Mario icon.
I use the same reasoning I used for why I thought Geno being part of Mario anniversary was impossible: he simply doesn't fit what Nintendo is going for when it comes to the Super Mario series going forward. You can all claim that technically SMRPG isn't a different series or that his spirit has a mushroom icon and whatnot but that's the truth. At this point he's as much of a Mario character as King Harkinian is a Zelda character. I don't see Nintendo pulling a 180º and saying "You know that Smash tournament we announced during the Mario anniversary? Yeah this character from an RPG spin-off from 2 decades ago will be part of it too, competing against Mario, Luigi, Bowser and friends."
If Geno gets in then he'll get in on sheer fan demand and nothing more. Trying to bank on a Mario connection that Nintendo clearly isn't interested in is just foolish.

There's still that unknown game set to be revealed in Nintendo Dream Magazine. I presume that's the holiday title.
It's rather curious that the Mario collection is releasing so soon. They could have had it come out November and it would have sufficed for holiday title. Makes me think something else is on the way

Its been interesting seeing the contrast in response to the Mario Collection from the hardcore set vs the casual fans. I think for the former group being so entrenched in Nintendo releases, history, and even awareness of stuff like the Mario PC port, 3D Alll Stars port inevitable feels like a let down given that so many of them know the potential of what it could be. For the latter though, you have a lot of people thrilled at the the very idea, ones who possibly haven't even played a game or two in it, now being able to on their Switch at any time and likely aren't as concerned at the idea of a Sunshine running at 30FPS.

It feels a bit emblematic of how the Switch has had such huge success this year while also being seen as its weakest by certain fans. There's just a lot of the public that are pleased at a Switch version of Animal Crossing and a new Paper Mario while the more familiar ones just see more output by titles that could be so much better. Makes me wonder if that sort of divide will continue for the rest of 2020 and into next year (maybe with Smash DLC too).

Even though I'd prefer Geno to be separate from the rest of the Mario cast (and I don't necessarily mean that as a compliment), I think they'd group him with everyone else in the Super Mario series.

I feel like the simpler, more likely outcome is them doing what they've already done with SMRPG content so far, and that's putting it with the rest of the Mario content.

If they weren’t interested in tying him to the Mario series, which he is essentially a part of, wouldn’t the solution to that be to not add him to Smash at all?

I mean, he’s a Mario character. Super Mario RPG is a Mario game, so the Mario connection is obvious. To suggest he isn’t Mario in nature is like 1984 stuff, “Do not believe your eyes and ears” basically. It doesn’t matter if Nintendo doesn’t want Geno connected to Mario as a series, he just is.

If they’re THAT hell-bent on not having that relationship seen in Smash, thenI assume they wouldn’t add him in the first place. But that might just be me.

EDIT: The Geno spirit already in Smash Ultimate uses the Mario series icon, so it’s pretty clear he’s considered a part of the Mario series. (OOF I missed this). That said, I think that simply shows Nintendo’s views, and suggesting otherwise goes directly against what we already have in the game. Either way it seems that if Geno were considered a Mario character (which Ultimate does) and they were going to include a DLC Mario character in a tourney that celebrates all of the Super Mario series characters, items, and stages, then I would think that’s exactly what they’re going to do, which suggests we aren’t getting a Mario DLC character.

At least based on the logic that it makes the most sense to have that character out in time if Nintendo is scheduling the celebration AND picking DLC characters. Otherwise it doesn’t really make much sense to me.

Next year is Zelda's 35th anniversary and Pokemon's 25th, so I think we're getting a few commemorative games and a whole lot of weird memorabilia we never knew we wanted.
OR
A zelda x pokemon crossover game.

.. ok i know it seems pretty hard to do, but it'd be weirdly awesome.

I wonder if there's a Zelda All-Stars, what games would we get? Mario pretty much got one big mainline 3D title per console, barring Galaxy 2 (and we all know how that turned out), but Zelda has gotten more. I guess we'd probably get OoT and skip MM, but which game do we get for the GameCube? TP or WW? Or do we get both and skip SS? So many questions...

i think the rumors hinted at WW HD, TP HD and SS HD

tho i'd love conversions of OoT 3D and MM 3D to Switch too

It's also pretty clear BoTW2 has been delayed from 2020. So I don't know why Nintendo just doesn't come out and say it has been delayed like with MP4. And besides it's more fitting for it be released for the series's 35th anniversary.

This is like saying "if Nintendo is so hell bent on limiting character designs in Paper Mario why are the spirits of old partners in Smash Ultimate?". Just because things like these get minor acknowledgements instead of being deleted from history doesn't mean they are what Nintendo has in mind going forward.

It's funny that it's ONLY in the context of Geno discussion that people will fight tooth and nail to deny the obvious truth of Nintendo keeping a much tighter leash on what outsiders are allowed to do with the Mario brand and pushing a more sanitized and centralized version of it during the last decade.

I wouldn’t mind Pokémon All Stars, mayhaps featuring “combined” versions of games where all the Pokémon are available. For example, Red+Blue with all version exclusives, Gold+Silver with all version exclusives, etc.
That's funny, thinking the Pokemon Company and Nintendo would actually sell their games as one package.
