Sakurai tweet: "We're proud to announce a new Echo Fighter: Yarn Yoshi! His feet turn into wheels when he runs, his eggs are replaced with yarn, and he has a new shield animation!"
Fans: "Yay?"

EDIT: You know what? If Yarn Yoshi's Yarn Lay turned characters into embroidered yarn balls like what happens when you lick up the other player in Yoshi's Woolly World, I would low key be excited for this character.
If it brought just a bit of the Woolly World OST into Smash, I wouldn't complain.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but Simon, Richter, Chrom, Dark Samus, and King K. Rool were confirmed two years ago today.

Man, that was a wild direct.
...two years?! It feels like it was only a year ago.

Holy ****, time flies. :drsad:

My choices would be.

Black Shadow (Captain Falcon); SmashPuppy made good points.
Dixie Kong (Diddy Kong); Similar to Chrom
Medusa (Palutena)
Octoling (Inkling)
Sure, and there's plenty that I remember people talked about when we thought there'd be more echos. Like Shadow, Impa, Ninten, and all that.

For the record, AI Dungeon told me the next newcomer is Isaac.
;)
His DLC pack will come with various important Isaacs from across history. His stage will be the Nexus of Isaacs ,where all Isaacs converge. His Spirit Board will consist of various different Isaacs, such as Isaac (Binding of Isaac), Isaac Clarke, Isaac (Castlevania (Game)), Isaac (Castlevania (Show)), Isaac Newton, Jimmy Isaac Neutron, and Isaac from the Bible, just to name a few. His songlist will consist of each of those Isaac's themes. Of course, his pack will be listed as SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE X ISAACS, because what else would it be?

K. Rool was the first and only reveal that actually made me teary-eyed. I remember that day being particularly ****ty otherwise, but it was all good because my most wanted finally made it in.

Wouldn't that be amazing in its own right then? Honestly, there's nothing else possible.

Wario is another franchise I expected to get a newcomer in Smash 4, but that also never happened. But I get Wario Ware as a series kind of died? Replaced with Rhythm Heaven?

Anyway there's plenty of veteran series which could use a newcomer by now.

We're also less than a month away from the anniversary of the last major Nintendo Direct.

Say, you ever stop and realise that when Nintendo announces a Nintendo Direct, they're basically announcing announcements? I guess Atlus aren't the only ones guilty of that, huh?

King K. Rool returning from his decade long absence is what sparked my inner childhood and getting me back into Nintendo. Worth it. A decision I regretted and never will do again.

I also missed most of the Earthbound talk but, on the off chance we actually live in the timeline where a new Mother game came out, I'd much rather see Earthbound get remade than Mother 3. Earthbound just needs its mechanics updated more than Mother 3. Plus, getting an official translation really of Mother 3 doesn't do much for me when Tomato's translation is still amazing and has been available for well over a decade.

Unfortunately the Rhythm Heaven series is also very likely dead. What Rhythm Heaven has is probably all it's going to get even going forward, which is a darn shame.

Yes but it's also illegal. EDIT: An official translation and release would be infinitely better.

WarioWare got its latest game two years ago, it's way too early to declare it a dead series.

As a correction, the translation patch itself is perfectly legal. What would be illegal is downloading the game's ROM. But the translation patch itself is fine legally, as much as any other video game mod.

March marked the second anniversary of :ultinkling: joining, and September will mark the second anniversary of :ultisabelle:. Both additions are still some of the most hype I've ever been for anything Nintendo ever.

Smash is cool. :dr^_^:

...But dang, already two years have gone by, huh.

Yeah doesn't seem like it's been 2 years since those things. Man does time fly.

I'm also not entirely sure an official English rerelease would be better on principle alone. The fan translation is of professional quality and the game plays perfectly with the patch. Maybe an official localization would be better, maybe it wouldn't. The Treehouse has done some fantastic work, but they've also done stuff like Saizo and Beruka's C-support.

That direct exceeded my expectations. While I did have a lot of hope for :ultkrool: and :ultdarksamus:, I did not expect to see :ultrichter: join the roster as well as I thought Simon would always take precedence. Getting not only the former two, two characters I love from growing up, but also my favorite Belmont from out of the blue, I can't put into words how happy I was with that entire showcase.

The only thing that tops them for me was :ultridley:'s and :ultsonic:'s respective reveals due to how special those characters are for me.

I don't see what's so different between :ganondorfmelee: a clone of :falconmelee: and, say, Blaziken being a clone of :ultfalcon:
Circumstances, mostly.

Ultimate had a healthy amount of newcomers at release and is still getting them so there nothing that forces Sakurai to cram a character as a last-minute clone. Technically, we can get what you said, I just don't see why we would.

In my opinion, it's really not worth thinking about if they make echoes across series for hypothetical characters when we don't know who those characters would even be to begin with.

Most of Smash characters come with character specific gimmicks that only work for themselves and potentially other characters within the same franchise. The only exceptions would possibly be the Marth-lings which use their 2 types of swordsmanship and Captain Falcon who's really just a full on brawler with fire effects.

The sliver of space in the venn diagram between "characters that aren't part of the same series" and "characters which are a feasible echo candidate" is so infinitesimally small I have to wonder what the point is in discussing it, and with the quantity of feasible candidates being so small, if Sakurai would even consider it in the future considering historically they've only ever been made to compromise fan appeal and limited resources.

... But sure, give me Raidou Kuzunoha as a Joker echo!

Regardless of whether not Wonderful 101 should count as a Nintendo game on a rival console, we're still talking about Wonderful 101 here. As harsh as it sounds, I doubt Nintendo really cares about it.

Any notable first-party franchise is probably staying with Nintendo.
I mean, it should count. It's owned by Nintendo. I'd understand the discussion if the game was Bayonetta, which despite being exclusive the IP itself is owned by Sega.

Obviously, Wonderful 101 isn't a flagship title for Nintendo neither is a long running Nintendo series. It's not the same as if Zelda games were on other consoles, but that doesn't mean Wonderful 101 doesn't count as a Nintendo game.
I just think Nintendo didn't care at all about the franchise after the low sales, so I'm guessing that thanks to their good relationship with Platinum and that Nintendo decided to be nice with them, they gave Platinum the OK to release the game outside of Switch.

Between these two and SFV's four... yeah, it's definitely taking long - though I'd argue the Challenger Packs in Smash take more work than just the character, but still...
True. Keep in mind, we're not JUST getting a character in these packs. There's also stages, music, Spirits, and Mii costumes if you want to get technical.

I miss the Hero-Banjo-Terry times when we actually when we had dates to look forward to and weren't kept in the dark.

Now we have no specific date or even month to look forward. We're just guessing when the next direct and the next smash character (or announcement even) is.

Honestly, it just sucks being left in the dark for this and it kinda kills my hype a bit.

I agree that we aren't getting any more echoes, I'm just saying that in the event that echoes are once again on the table (likely in Smash 6), cross series echoes are as on the table as any other (at least on prinicple, they have to be reasonable additions otherwise)

It technically hasn't even started yet and I already know more about GBF Versus season 2 than Ultimate's season 2, how depressing

Over half a year since the pass went on sale and we still only know one character. It's certainly frustrating, especially with how there are no dates or time periods to look forward to. Street Fighter gave us time periods, Guilty Gear gave us time periods, Tekken gave us time periods, pretty much every major fighting game gave it's fans time periods on when to expect the next characters. It's frustrating how Smash is the only one to not do that thanks to Nintendo being secretive as **** with their future content.

In regards to Granblue news though Cagliostro was an obvious choice, Vira is probably part of the pass as well.
