I wonder why Geno and Waluigi are specified. Unless it's Mario series characters in general and PG missed out Paper Mario and Captian Toad.
because they are the names that generate clicks, views , attention and money. . You wouldnt get any of those if you said Dante or Pheonix

One thing I wonder about regarding the Paper Mario EXP debate is, like, shouldn‘t the point of battles be enjoying the battles themselves? If the battle system is only worth partaking in for the rewards, isn’t that a problem with the battle system itself?
Thing is, it makes battles feel important, you worked hard on that battle and thus, you want to be rewarded for your hard work. It doesn't matter if it's beating a team of 6 Magikarps, fighting some above average enemies or Metal Slime hunting, JRPGs are tens of hours long, so if I don't find the combat rewarding, I won't want to participate in those battles and learn the depths of the system allowing me to pull off cool ****. Even games without leveling up have to feep rewarding, in Kirby, you can avoid like 90% of fights but it's less tedious to just fight. In action oriented games that lock progress behind fights, those fights need to be fun, you get the point.

TLDR If I'm not getting anything for battling, then I won't feel rewarded
Blind and naive hope is a really jerk way to put it imo
How would you rather put it then? Yes you don't necessarily need EXP to level up or progress in an RPG.
Soulsborne has you use the currency you gain from killing foes to get stronger but that also adds the angle of possibly needing to buy and improve items.
Monster Hunter has you take on tougher hunts with better material rewards to craft better weapons and armour.

Origami King at best does a super watered down Soulsborne where you buy weapons that degrade quickly and accessories. You only actually get proper stat boosts by finding Heart Power Ups. The battle system looks cool but it's also wasted on fodder enemies so far.

Maybe it gets better after the second area (where the previews are currently embargoed). That'd be nice. But it should be good from the get go, the first impression matters.

I think if nothing else the current nature of Paper Mario exposes the flaw of having the Mario RPG experience limited to just one series. The gradual shift of PM away from the core role playing game mechanics would go down a lot easier if the Mario and Luigi series hadn't spend its final years with a meh crossover like Paper Jam and okayish remakes before eventually dying off. As is any fan of Mario Role Playing games now just has one series that feels increasingly embarrassed that it has any RPG elements left.

Mario and Luigi got treated so ****ing poorly
A Bowser's Inside Story remake on the 3ds, a few years into the Switch's lifespan no less, was entirely unnecessary when you could play using the original DS cartridge.

That may be one of the reasons why AlphaDream itself ended up shutting down.

This just sounds like a strawman argument

2. The July Direct is the Mario Presentation that was supposed to happen at E3. The schedule leaks and a Smash reveal is mentioned, it just doesn't list exactly who the character is.
The people backing a July Direct in the first place say that it's a regular Direct.

Yeah, and I don't think that they would reveal a new Smash character in a Direct that exclusively focuses on one franchise unless that franchise is Smash itself.

The Mario presentation wasn't supposed to happen at E3, it was supposed to happen before E3.

Presumably the upcoming Direct will mix it together with parts of what was going to be at E3.

It's not a single-series Direct.

Yeah. I don't think that Nintendo would focus their Direct that is planned to showcase their holiday titles exclusively on Mario.

I'm taking the opposite position. Just because.

THE POWERS OF CHOAS PREVAIL!!

The way that's worded makes it sound like we're talking about Nintendo being a DJ company.

Nah but seriously, it's going to be very interesting to see if that does happen. Especially if the Mario remakes are real and close to finished, and if BOTW 2 / other games have a lot done. Not expecting MP4, but would be nice if it showed at the next Direct too.

Took a look at the document about El Grande Papi de Jenos, and all I have to say is:

ohmyofnoimportance.png

He doesn't say anything definitive. All he says is he has info he can't talk about other than the fact he has it, and that it may or may not mean Geno and/or Waluigi are playable in some form.

Considering this is the same person who seriously covers hoaxes like the Grinch Leak and the Paraleak, among other 4chan tier "leaks," and peddles inane theories every other week, I don't trust PapaGenos as far as I can throw him.

There's not even anything worth discussing because so little has been said. All we can do here is wait and see how it pans out.

Imagine the irony if PapaGenos was on to something, and the character was indeed a Super Mario character.

...But it was neither Waluigi or Geno. It was Paper Mario promoting Origami King.

When the Mario franchise is brought up people always talk about Geno, Waluigi, Paper Mario, and Toad.

And I'm just here thinking Pauline would be awesome in Smash.

but seriously it is kind of a shame she doesn't get talked about as much when she is a part of one of the biggest arcade games, has become relevant during the Switch era, and has never really been completely absent thanks to DK '94 and the Mario vs. DK series.

After """E3""" this year, I never want to see another indie presentation again.

Honestly, while false information seems to flock to Papagenos like moths to the world's largest lightbulb, it can be a decent conversation piece if everyone keeps their expectations in check. That goes for all leaks really, even if they're undoubtedly false, they give us something new to talk about.

It's much better than having the "when july direct" conversation for the umpteenth time.

GameXplain made a news video on the direct, seems like they are somewhat confident in it happening.

GamexPlain are usually pretty on top of things, this makes me feel a bit more confident in it happening.

As always though, I'll take all things with a grain of salt until Nintendo says something themselves, but the more reliable sources speak up, the more likely it does seem.

Now watch out this supposed new direct being another Indies hahaha
If I get a release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong, Gestalt: Of Steam and Cinder, or Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, I'll be fine. Especially with the latter, I found it and really wanted it last E3, but then it got delayed. Now I'm just waiting for more news.
This is definitely not an attempt to plug all these games and give them attention

Since a direct is looking pretty darn likely, it also seems likely we might get FP7 revealed in said direct.

So, any guesses or predictions you guys want to throw out until the direct comes?

Funnily enough, I don't think moths like big lightbulbs as much as small ones. I tried to lure one out a couple days ago with a lamp.

I still haven't found it.

Anyway, uh...

Something that ocurred to me: wasn't there a guy who leaked PP down to its moveset and was talking about Ryu Hayabusa right before Terry leaked? Here's the thing: Hero and Banjo had whispers going for them for a good year or so before their reveal. So what if they did hear about Hayabusa, but they jumped the gun in the fact that it was not the next character?

Keep in mind: Terry's reveal was at the same time where we learned there would be more fighters. So the second Pass was probably already a thing internally for a few months, at least.

Tldr: that one guy could have been right and heard about Hayabusa for future negotiations, namely season 2, in a similar manner to how Hero and Banjo were rumored before.

That would be hilarious but I feel the chances of paper Mario even with the new game coming next week are PAPER THIN

Those were different things, PP was leaked on reddit and you're alluding to a 4chan post that called Terry being after Banjo, but claimed that Hayabusa would be after him and described their trailers, Terry's re-using Ken and Incineroar's and Hayabusa's reusing the Belmont trailer.

It's gotta be either Crash or Sora (the former might be apt to release around the same time as Crash 4: It's About Time, which comes out October 2, 2020).

I want Kiryu.

Gimme Kiryu.

Seriously, he'd be such a cool addition. Plus, the music in Yakuza is amazing.

I think that it's too early for FP7.

Just saying guys....

Black Knight being an echo of Ike is a laughable idea. Black Knight's movement is consistently slow, deliberate and bulky. Just look at how he moves as an AT. Can you imagine him doing the flips for Aether or zooming around with Quick Draw?

He wouldn't even be a semiclone unless you REALLY stretch interpretation.
"Dark Samus being an echo is a laughable idea. Dark Samus' gestures is consistently the opposite to what Samus can do in Smash. Just look at how she fights as an AT. Can you imagine her not doing boost ball attacks and the Shrapnel Beam, all for a clone-y moveset?"

but really, after Sakurai admitting he can just slap the label on anybody when he feels like it, who ever applicable to be an Echo Fighter is pretty ambigious.
At the end of the day, it's just another name for actual clones and another set of last minute/low-budget additions for purely fanservice additions.
Ken's still functionally a semi-clone despite the label.
