Smash rarely does anything notable for anniversaries. There might've been a PotD or a Conquest that mentioned a few, but anniversaries usually come and go.
"Square stingy" is more an individual property thing than a company-wide thing, and even then they're stingy in different ways. Final Fantasy is one giant rights nightmare with both music and character depictions. Dragon Quest is too, like not letting heroes depicted as fighting each other, which is why it's amazing that Sakurai managed to get alts.
Damn, RIP Randi I guess.
It should be noted that Seiken Densetsu 3 is better remembered than 2 in Japan even if the latter sold more in the end. Like seriously, people LOVE the game.

It's something I've actually brought up a few times in SE-related threads, mentioning how SoM is a pretty popular/beloved SNES title and isn't even an "irrelevant" series thanks to SoM being on the SNES Mini, the SoM remake, mana collection, and of course the Trails of mana remake.

What ABOUT Chrono Trigger?
People keep bringing up music rights being all over the place for Final Fantasy, but unlike Dragon Quest where the music has Sugiyama listed as the copyright holder, Square Enix themselves are always listed as the copyright holder for Final Fantasy music (and indeed other franchises like SaGa). Granted, I haven't looked at absolutely every case but I doubt we'd be getting stuff like Florence and the Machine's FFXV tracks anyway.

looks like a league character finally had their chance to get in the leak spotlight.
Honestly, I'm not too impressed with getting a Trials of Mana spirit event correct. After stuff like Daemon X Machine and Resident Evil, I think it's safe to predict that any third-party titles that Nintendo puts strong support behind will probably receive a spirit event.

Imagine Nintendo announcing that FP7's gonna be a League of Legends after dropping the ARMS character and leaving us in the dark for 3 months again.
Honestly, I’m fine with this since I dotn want the roster to get too bloated, if we were basing this off of the slot data mining then we would still get 4 more characters, which would probably all be echo fighters if I was sakurai.
I honestly didn't even see that they had mentioned Trials of Mana spirits at first, so I was hella confused as to why everyone was talking about this leak all of a sudden.
I'm assuming Shovel Knight would be 5$ since he's 3rd party and not listed on cheaper lists, and also assuming we don't have to adhere to 5 or 6 slots to match FP2 or FP2 with the ARMS rep, so:
At least League doesn't have every character be fundamentally the same, it's been like a decade since I've even been somewhat interested in League but every character being so drastically different from each other caught my eye
I’ll take 15 echoes if they each come with a stage and music.
I get what you're saying but asking for all characters to be brought back from here on, especially all the 3rd parties, would be a major financial blow on Nintendo.
Lucky guess like a lot of anon's who quote on quote "leaked" something for Smash.
