Amaterasu, without a doubt but I wouldn't mind having Sakura Shinguji as F6 I think she'd be big enough to lead this pass, just my opinion.

Oh, I'd absolutely love another character from Street Fighter but I'd honestly prefer one of the other games in the series to get some love instead of just SF2 again. I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys the cast from Third Strike quite a bit, so gimme Alex, Ibuki, Dudley, or Q and I'd be a happy man.

It'd also be an excuse to finally throw some SF3 music into the game, too.

I haven't played much of it yet, but Street Fighter 3 definitely has the most style out of the whole series. I guess Alex would make sense, but something about Gill tantalizes me with his God complex, elemental superpowers, and diaper. He's also current too because I think he's one of the main villains of Street Fighter 5 iirc.

Regardless of who, you're right. We need Street Fighter 3 music.

As @Bolderousness said, the way Nintendo is doing things right now isn't strange. This is pretty much how Switch era Nintendo has been going for three years now, which is why I'm confused as to why people are so confused or surprised.

Besides, a bunch of these folks will hate the next Direct anyways because they're hyping it up so much because some are letting rumors and percieved gaps in time between reveals mean "It's just GOTTA be big!"

Way I see it, Gamexplain's whole "162 days since the last Direct! Longest wait in Direct History?" schtick is clever word twisting and clickbait exploiting an impatient fanbase. No, it hasn't been 162 days since the last Nintendo news drop: We got a Pokemon Direct and Smash presentation just last month, and their twitter has been promoting all kinds of releases lately. TBH, people aren't mad at the lack of news, they're mad it isn't news specifically catered to them.

I'm honestly surprised Dragon Quest was considered obscure here in retrospect. Dragon Quest had one huge surge in the west in my lifetime, and that was during Dragon Quest 9 where Nintendo heavily marketed Dragon Quest for the DS. (Anybody remember these commercials?) No seriously, Dragon Quest 9 was well received here, selling about 1 million copies outside of Japan. I remember going to middle school every morning and I saw a group of kids who would play Dragon Quest 9's multiplayer for about a couple of weeks. It was postgame, too, so they played the game for a while. This also ignores all of the Monster Joker titles and DS remakes of older games.

There was a bit of hiatus between Dragon Quest 9 and Heroes 1 where the west got basically no games in the series for a good few years. So it did fell out of public consciousness in the west for a while. Which does lean towards my theory that most people who called Hero a literal who, are teenagers that aren't really familiar with JRPG's, because lets all be honest here. As soon as Cloud joined and was the first SE rep, the question of Dragon Quest coming to Smash became a matter of when.
Hell if there was 1 character I bet Nintendo pushed to Sakurai to include above all else, it was likely Hero since Nintendo especially NoA has heavily pushed the series in the west morose then even Square ever has, just look at how much marketing 11S compare to the PS4 and Steam release in the west just a year prior.

Yeah, I'm pretty much the same way.

There are obviously some characters that I'd very much like to see and I'll continue to support them until the end, but Byleth's inclusion made me so incredibly happy that it'd be difficult for any future DLC character to disappoint me.

Suppose Capcom announced they were finally making Nintendo vs Capcom. Which Nintendo and Capcom characters make the roster, and why? Are there any characters on Nintendo's side currently not in Smash that you could see making the roster?

I mean, I'm excited to see what's next too, but I still feel things aren't quite as desperate and bleak as, say, Wii U era Nintendo. There's a good amount coming so far, and the inevitable Direct will only add to that.

Reminder, by this time of 2018 we didn't knew we were getting Super Mario Party, Pokemon Lets Go, Xenoblade 2 Torna, and this little indie game called Super Smash Bros Ultimate in 2018. The only first party games we knew of were Hyrule Warriors, Tropical Freeze, Mario Tennis Aces, and a Fire Emblem game (which got delayed out of 2018).

While a little over a year ago we had only just found about Astral Chain, Mario Maker 2, and Link's Awakening, and were only a couple weeks away from Sword and Shield's reveal. Let's see what happens by the end of March, because they need to do one by the end of March, because otherwise the unreleased only first party game will be the Xenoblade listed on Nintendo's upcoming first party games set for 2020.

My thinking is that the next character is going to be a big opener for the Fighters Pass. If it's not then I won't care. I have to get a working controller (that isn't a single Joy Con) in order to fully enjoy them anyway so...

Right. The issue isn't that the wait is long, but that all we're doing is waiting rather than focusing on something more productive and fun.

Lemme tell you, this last month has flew by me since I took a temp leave from here. Focused more on my social life, physical training, and other video games. Before I knew it, Byleth was already released and it was already February

Yeah. Dragon Quest disappearing from the face of western marketing for a while was what made the thought of Erdrick for Smash unbelievable at first lol.

Glad it all made sense in retrospect.

We need Street Fighter III music, period. All the Street Fighter music in Smash right now is only rips of Street Fighter II music, plus 4 remixes, 2 of which were re-used from Smash 4.

Banjo-Kazooie was my most wanted newcomer followed by King K. Rool so I'm pretty much 90% satisfied with the roster.

I don't really have too many left that will have me begging on my knees, But there are a few that I would like or wouldn't mind joining the roster, Some reasonable choices that I believe aren't gonna happen and some that I believe have a solid shot at making the roster.

1st Party:

1. Pokemon (8th Generation Rep)
Inteleon or maybe Urshifu (Single Strike form)

Outside of costumes like Raichu or Octoling, the only non-Smash character(s) I see getting in is Rex & Pyra since Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was more popular than the other two titles.

In regards to why the characters were chosen for both sides, they encompass various parts of both Capcom and Nintendo. I could see more curveballs from Capcom, but I think these picks would be fairly likely..though maybe with Morrigan swapped out or toned down at Nintendo's behest.

You already know. My dude Mega Man X. The GOAT. I'd be pretty happy with other Mega Man characters, but he's my first choice.
Also put in one of the Kings of the Iron Fist. There's also Ryu Haybusa, but he's a fairly popular choice to talk about.
