This place... no, the entire internet is going to go nuts if even E3 doesn't have CP6. Like, unbearably bad.

But even an April reveal, well before E3, will probably drive some people nuts. E3 CP6 is going to be when a lot of people leave and never return.

Like I just said over on GameFAQs, you don't know what a forced meme even is. Hell, you don't even know anything about the Shantal meme as a whole, since you seem to think myself and nessdeltarune/Ouma are the only people who ever used it.

It's a dead meme, but not a forced one. And personally, I don't even use it based on meme status, I use it because it makes Shantae fans over on GameFAQs go ballistic. GoldenYuiitusin in particular used to have thread-derailing temper tantrums whenever I said "Shantal".

People were getting impatient waiting for F5, and they thought the only way to calm everyone down was to reveal the character. Then Byleth got revealed, and the internet got even more out of control.

Also, if you want to play by that game, if an indie character is ever happening at all (Obviously not for Ultimate), its 100% going to be either Shovel Knight, Undertale, or even Cuphead. All of them are much newer, and they still got much more content than Shantal did. Its over.

Funny, isn’t it? For all of the begging and shilling Wayforward did during the Ballot era, all they got were two “PNGs” as a reward, even though Shantal is a much older series. Meanwhile, indie games that weren’t even out during the ballot era already have detailed 3D models and music tracks in the game.

I see this place hasn't changed much while I was out. As a result, I'm just gonna reply to posts that caught my eye since some things have been on my mind.

I don't really understand how people are expecting a DLC character so soon. Sakurai in his own words stated that Joker wasn't even planned to be revealed at the VGA until Nintendo requested it. Given Joker wasn't released until four months later, we kind of know why Sakurai was hesitant.

Also I find it funny how some people I know claim Smash Bros is supposed to be a celebration of gaming and crossovers, and then those same people proceed to only focus on the possibility of a Smash Bros reveal for gaming events like Nintendo directs or E3.

A second Sonic character would be awful because it wouldn't be Blaze or Omega, change my mind

Omega needs to be in only so SGB can have another montage dedicated to robot voices

The people that are calling 2B or Hero literal whose have to be teenagers that only grew up with Nintendo consoles. Like its baffling how they seem to ignore big popular Japanese series that don't have association with Nintendo hardware, or in the case of Dragon Quest has by far more association and importances with Nintendo then say Minecraft, Doom, Halo, Crash, Spyro, Kingdom Hearts etc ever had. Yet them calling Hero a literal who shows how much they lack any knowledge.

I'm honestly surprised Dragon Quest was considered obscure here in retrospect. Dragon Quest had one huge surge in the west in my lifetime, and that was during Dragon Quest 9 where Nintendo heavily marketed Dragon Quest for the DS. (Anybody remember these commercials?) No seriously, Dragon Quest 9 was well received here, selling about 1 million copies outside of Japan. I remember going to middle school every morning and I saw a group of kids who would play Dragon Quest 9's multiplayer for about a couple of weeks. It was postgame, too, so they played the game for a while. This also ignores all of the Monster Joker titles and DS remakes of older games.

Really? This feels like what they've always been doing. Anybody remember the wait for Feb 2018 direct and how we were begging for Erdrick to be confirmed or not?

I said it once, I'll say it again. Since 2017, there has always been 3 general directs per year (including E3).

I feel I've said this one-too-many times, but there is always a pre-E3 direct, post-E3 direct, and E3-showcasing. This is clearly their marketing structure now and 2019 has all but confirmed it as the third-year-in-a-row they've done this. You wanna know why we've waited so long? It's because Nintendo blew their post E3 direct as early as September last year. If you think I'm exaggerating, go fact check for me.

January was pumped with Pokemon news and a new Smash Bros character, and we already have major releases coming out in March and April like Xenoblade Chronicles 1, Persona 5 Royal, Resident Evil 3 Remake, Animal Crossing New Horizons, and FF 7 Remake--and this should all hold people over until E3. This year is gonna be anything but slow.

I would argue Shantae has at least a higher chance than Sans or Cuphead. Purely because of loveseat potential.

I could see those two being Assist trophies in a future smash game, easilly.

It didn't help that people were hyping up Dante due to the fact that some dates matched up.

I remember when that happened. A pretty big number of people thought that Dante would be the last character in the first fighters pass because a DMC3 Switch-exclusive feature announcement was announced on the same day as the eventual reveal of Byleth, and and it did not help that there were clickbait article titles, for example: "DMC VOICE ACTOR SAYS A LEGENDARY CAPCOM FIGHTER WILL BE IN SMASH" and something similar to that. What turned out to be "evidence" for Dante turned out to one big coincidence and there were plenty of disappointed people to say the least.

tbh I don’t see why indie characters are seen as competition for each other. They’re all still their own games from different people, more than one indie character could be playable in the same game if they wanted.

I'd really, really hesitate to call Minecraft indie at this point. It's about as accurate as calling Amazon a bookstore.

He could be a Mii, but Minecraft is about what the player does, not just its world. Steve is the face of the game alongside the Creeper and Alex, him and Alex used as characters making appearances in some official videos and tweets and a bunch of pixel art on the official Minecraft instagram, with whoever runs the account talking about what they’re doing. One news post on the Minecraft website pretty much refers to them as the stars of the game, too (as a joke thing telling them to talk to their agent while promoting the bees as the new stars). Steve also has a bunch of merchandise, and a lot of fans sometimes use him in builds/make builds of him specifically and make fan art of him and Alex.

Minecraft has plenty of things Steve could use, too, including unique items like an Ender Pearl and wouldn’t have to be just a swordfighter. He could potentially craft stuff and place blocks (in a limited, balanced way) as part of his moveset if he was playable. “Steve” is his official name, too. It’s not “Steve?” like what Notch originally said and what was on early merch; and Minecraft isn’t indie anymore, hasn’t been since 2014 or so.

I’d also say a Mii wouldn’t be nice, as he’d be unable to stick to Minecraft’s style in official animations and such due to the Mii’s limbs’ joints’ placements/they not being like Minecraft Dungeons, though just a mask would look fine. I personally don’t think a Mii is perfect for any character, though, and definitely isn’t perfect representation...

I feel pretty confident that any indie will wind up as a Mii Fighter costume, and I still think that's extremely cool for the developers. Like, even if they're not playable, you have to admit seeing small scale indie devs getting recognition by getting a likeness of their character getting their ass beat by larger gaming characters must feel like an accomplishment.

That has to be so cool. Not to mention, if we get a few more of those deluxe costumes, you could do a 4 player FFA as indie characters essentially. Gimme Shovel Knight and somebody else and it's pretty baller.

I know speculation can be vexing when fans see things differently from your own point of view, but try not to be too trigger-happy with the deconfirmation claims.

Obviously supporters will be more optimistic than yourself if the character never appealed to you. You can share your opinions on why you think a character is dead, but avoid using the tone that says, "I'm purposely doing a poor job of hiding me thinking that you're stupid for believing this character still has a chance." That's not helping you or anyone else.

So we've been talking Dante and Phoenix for some time, but I'm actually pushing for another Street Fighter character. It's not as cool as another world joining Smash Bros, but I've been playing it recently and I gotta say a lot of the characters are sticking out to me. Sagat, Chun-Li, and Akuma all come to mind. All badasses in their own rights.

Plus we need some more music from the series.

Oh, I'd absolutely love another character from Street Fighter but I'd honestly prefer one of the other games in the series to get some love instead of just SF2 again. I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys the cast from Third Strike quite a bit, so gimme Alex, Ibuki, Dudley, or Q and I'd be a happy man.

It'd also be an excuse to finally throw some SF3 music into the game, too.

I mean, the Switch has a pretty good amount announced right now:

- DLC for major titles (LM3, Pokemon SwSh, Fire Emblem, and Smash)
- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
- Animal Crossing
- Xenoblade Chronicles Remastered
- Bravely Default
- NMH 3
- Dozens of other third parties and indies

I'd say we're looking pretty good. I really don't understand personally why some (not saying you BTW, talking about others) are feeling that we're in some kind of Wii U era lull, we're really not.
