If they want to sell the pass starting on January 28th, then the next direct would be optimal. They did it with Joker, so I can't see why not here as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the next direct was on the 28th.

There are going to be three a year. I could see the reveal schedule being the reveal of one at the spring direct, one at E3, and one at the fall direct.

Most likely E3, I don't see them revealing who it is before then. Especially after they said it would take a while to reveal.

Then again they recorded that back in November so maybe they've already made a ton of progress.

I can see why if you're not a fan of the game the trailer wasn't that exciting for you.

My opinion of FE has no effect on my disliking Byleth's inclusion.

Dishonored 2 is probably my favorite video game ever. If Dishonored had 8 characters in Smash, I'd be pissed about that too.

Judging by the very mixed reactions, they might want to show some sort of teaser soon. If it's at least something like Terry's initial sneak a peak.

Considering the Byleth presentation was recorded back in November, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the reveal as early as the next Direct (which I think will be February, though a surprise Direct announcement for the end of January is also possible, if unlikely).

Honestly, they should've ended the Byleth presentation with a Fighter 6 reveal.

For one, since Byleth ended up getting a divisive reaction, a Fighter 6 reveal right afterwards would've at least eased the sting a little, so to speak. For another, regardless of who Fighter 5 was or the reaction they would get, it'd still be a smart move to keep the Fighters Pass hype going more smoothly. Strike the iron while it's hot and don't give it a chance to cool down, that sort of thing.

I'm a die hard Dragonborn supporter, but if we did end up with Vault boy I hope this song gets added or remixed. And it's an original composition for the game so it'd be realistic!

Dishonored 2 is probably my favorite video game ever. If Dishonored had 8 characters in Smash, I'd be pissed about that too.

Lets be honest here, the ONLY reason Fire Emblem has 8 characters is because of 'Everyone Is Here', were that not the case, its almost a certainty that Lucina & Roy would have been cut and Chrom wouldn't have been made as an Echo Fighter, then we'd just have Marth, Ike, Robin, Corrin, and Byleth, which would be just fine with me, even though I LOVE Lucina and quite like Roy & Chrom.
Beyond that..I hardly count the series as having that many characters considering four of the eight are Marth in all but name, appearance, and one or two moves..if we had to cut the Marth clones to have Byleth, that would be just fine with me..heck, throw in Ike too if needed, he's not that interesting..

Still, this is the inevitable problem that was risked by having Everyone Is Here alongside a rotating cast for one of Nintendo's biggest non-Mario/Zelda/Pokémon/Kirby series.

I'm glad Byleth is here since Three Houses is my favorite game in the series and I would have been ticked if some dumb arbitrary reason like having 'too many reps' was the only reason they weren't included. 'Representation Count' is hardly worth caring about since its just an arbitrary number that ultimately means nothing..there's no way every series will get a new character, representation isn't equal and a new fighter isn't always needed in order to represent the newest game, as shown with Link getting a BotW design and Mario having Cappy added to his taunt and Up special..some games need a fighter to represent it well, some don't. Just how things go..its why I want Rex & Pyra but don't care about Bandanna Waddle Dee.

There's no other choice for Wario World other than this.

Most of the time, I'm finding things I'm saying about Spirits, or past precedence being labeled as "Fan rules" when it's...literally speculation. Are we here to talk about which characters have chances because of certain things? Or are we just going to act as though every fictional video game character has "equal chances" and not try to narrow anything down?

Where I come from, in order to make a strong claim you have to back it up with something. I'm fine with people saying what they think, but I don't find some of this stuff likely unless people can back it up, or bring something to support it.

When I say that I feel as though all DLC picks will be main protagonist regardless of series of origin (because every newcomer DLC in Smash history has been), or that I don't believe upgrades will happen (because it hasn't happened yet in Ultimate, and not a single Challenger Pack has reproduced content), it's an observation of something, and I'm putting thoughts together because of evidence, or evidence based on precedent.

You can believe what you want. But please, let's not pass everything off as a fan rule. Let's actually talk about potential outcomes. I'm trying to post things that I'm honestly thinking about, so to see folks shut it down as, "Nuh uh, you're a lame ass with your 'restricting fan rules'" it gets frustrating.

I do somewhat feel like they may focus specifically on most characters at E3 just because that is the event they tend to get the big announcements (Even if E3 seems to have slowly diminished in recent years). It could very well be we don't get our first challenger pack 2 character until closer to E3 though on the bright side they may have the 2nd character revealed there too. Then perhaps the 3rd closer to the end of the year, possibly even a return of a Game Awards reveal. (Even if we didn't get the reveal in the most recent game awards). Then 2021 could be repeat of which 2 characters are revealed at or close to E3 and the final character in November or December.

This would mean big lulls of time between reveals. And that's not fun to think about given how many Smash fans got impatient in the period between Terry and Byleth (Though the games being played of "Who did a leaker say was disconfirmed for FP5 today?" didn't help matters). But between what went on with Joker and said Terry-Byleth period Nintendo seems one to wait til' most are thirsty for news heh

I used to be really think Spirit Upgrades were going to happen post-pass when it was first announced but as time goes on I gotta agree with Scoliosis Jones. I can't blame him for thinking Spirit Upgrades won't happen as every single DLC character so far has not had overlapping content with Base game let alone being Spirits themselves.

Even Byleth while being from a first party franchise that already has a lot of representation doesn't have any overlapping content from within the Base game. It's not about "Fan Rules" It's about patterns and that's a really big part of speculation when they're actually solid patterns.

Anyways personally I kind of do feel like it may be better to not do upgrades and go for brand new franchises sure that means no Geno whom I want or anyone I'm comfortable with but reaching out to new franchises and trying them has been a blast so far. I wouldn't have tried DQ11 had it not been for Hero getting in, I wouldn't have played FE:TH had it not been 1) me thinking it had a chance to get in and 2) My friends talking about it, Etc. etc.

So sure I'd love to try new franchises and for new franchises to be put in Smash to make this the ultimate crossover event they can make it as long as I can actually try those said franchises out...

Plus look at the bright side at least if we don't get people like Geno, Isaac, Waluigi, Dixie or others that means we can continue to speculate about them when Smash 6 comes around meaning they'd be in the spotlight again as after they get in they'd just have their five minutes of fame and people would move on. This keeps those characters alive.
