5 Master Chief, he can throw a bubble shield which acts like a significantly smaller Gardevoir
Chief honestly has such sick potential for a moveset. I'd be damned if he didn't have Armor Lock that functioned similarly to Joker's Rebel's Guard. Of course, Chief doesn't have a persona to charge so it would likely be a purely defensive mechanic for avoiding life-ending knockback.

If we're talking about dreams, I want to mention that I once had a dream about a E3 reveal that announced that not only would Doomguy join the roster, but he would have the first ever cross-IP echo fighter, B.J. Blazkowicz, meaning that Doomguy and Blazkowicz would have Doom weapons and Wolfenstein weapons in their shared moveset.

I would love that, and also expanded to include Duke Nukem.

Here's another set of challenges! You get to pick the 5 next characters of Fighter's Pass 2. It doesn't matter who they are or what role they presently have in Smash, assuming they're from a video game. But, they have to have the following gameplay conditions.
  1. The first character has to be heavier than Bowser. (135 is the weight to beat, unless tied.) Ties are acceptable.
  2. The second character has to be lighter than Pichu. (Can't be higher than 61, except to tie.) Ties are acceptable.
  3. The third character has to have an overarching gimmick that defines their playstyle. (Something like Arsene.)
  4. The fourth character has to have no major gimmicks, being relatively straightforward. (Kinda like Mario.)
  5. The final character has to be able to spawn an item or an item-like entity.
My picks would be... Ganon (tying), Paper Mario (also tying), Arle Nadja (chain gimmick), Shovel Knight, and Crash Bandicoot (crates).
  1. 2B is canonically heavy, so it'd be funny having a character like her at Super Heavyweight.
  2. Eevee, tied with Pichu. More specifically, it's Pokémon's answer to Mega Man, being an elemental Jack-of-all-trades.
  3. Rex without a doubt. He gets Pyra, Mythra, Nia, and Roc as Blades. Like Pokémon Trainer, he has 3 move-sets, but he's the one doing the fighting.
  4. Bomberman and all of their siblings, naturally. Their abilities include most of their bomb types, being able to move around like DK while grabbing, etc.
  5. Shovel Knight, with the Rolling Gear as an item he can summon. It works like a crate set to automatic (and it can jump over gaps as well).
This sounds like a creepy pasta.
Bonus points if the mystery fighter has blurred edges and a tv static effect, but if anything it's intended to be Faux Horrific.

Y'all seeing whole ass Nintendo Directs in your dreams while I'm still showing up to 8th Grade in nothing but my undergarments.

Someone must be tuned into the cosmic plain.

This is tough... let’s see...

1. Gotta have a heavy-armored monster here, so I’m thinking Nightmare. He may not be the tallest (the Soul Calibur character pages list him as being 5’6”), but with that arm and Soul Edge, I can see him having the weight to compare to Bowser.

2. I’ll go with Midna. She’s got the imp body and is floaty as well, so I can see her being really light. Plus the Zelda series really needs another unique moveset already.

3. You know I have to put my guy somewhere. Dovahkiin would work really well with three charge states and a cooldown timer on his specials - the basic level is pretty worthless but the third is powerful, but leaves him unable to use specials for a while. I’ve got my moveset concept in the thread.

4. I like basic characters. If I wanted to have a bit of fun here, I’d go with Urbosa, but since I already have a Zelda pick, I’ll take Ezio. He’s (well, both really) got a nice mix of projectiles and close attacks, but no real gimmicks.

5. I can’t say much from his recent games, but Tails is a gadgeteer and could play with item spawns. And let’s face it, Sonic’s original player two needs more than a three-star spirit and a disturbing Mii costume.

I don't like any indie character being given the moniker of "King -" or "Queen of Indie Games".

I don't think any indie character that would theoretically get in Smash should be there to represent all indie games. It's a disservice to any other indie game whose protagonist didn't get to be playable, and some weird people may even be against further indie characters becoming playable because "we already have the King / Queen of Indie Reps".

I think it would be miraculous and celebratory to see a full on playable character from an indie game, and I have my own wants. But no, they wouldn't stand in for all indie games ever, nor should they.

Being given a title doesn't necessarily take away from the rest. If anything, I like to imagine that having the first Indie rep paves way for future playable inclusions, as opposed to it being a one-and-done deal. But that's just me.

1. Groudon: I don't know, it'd just be fun to use.
2. Deku Link: I feel he'd be a pretty light fighter and we could use a few more link incarnations.
3. Sgt. Cortez: He has this device called the Temporal Uplink that functions like the gravity gun. It would allow him to hold projectiles, reflect them back or save the items for later. Also he'd have this dispersion gun, it functions like one of those airzooka toys but as a shotgun type weapon. Charge in a vortex of air and blast it out which could deal damage and would have a wind box but with no knockback.
4. Crash Bandicoot: He'd just use his abilities from Crash 3 as his special moves but him using his spin attack nearly every single one of his neutral attacks.
5. Klonoa: He'd just throw those "moo" enemies around.

Who's ready for the Ace Attorney himself, Phoenix Wright, to be announced as fighter pass character number 5 in the next Nintendo direct in two to three weeks?

4: Ice Mario
5: Any Fire Emblem character (summons salty fans because it's another FE character)

1. Marco Rossi (riding inside a metal slug)
2. Rocket (Slime)
3. Conker; Context Sensitive could make for a really interesting gameplay mechanic/gimmick
4. Waluigi; I’d imagine he’d play in a vein more similar to Luigi than Wario
5. Captain Syrup; she throws her minions at opponents and can use them as a shield brawl dedede style

Does anyone else find it a bit odd that BOTH Verge and Sabi have gone silent in relation to Smash ever since TGA didn’t yield a character?

1. Nemesis, basically being a giant monster with a machine gun attached to his arm
2. Sans (you know, because of his 1HP)
3. Kiryu, being able to switch between various fighting styles and having different movesets for each
4. Ryu Hayabusa
5. Phoenix Wright, being able to throw out various pieces of "evidence" against his opponent

I may be biased here, but not a bad DLC lineup if I do say so myself

while I was making this list I noticed I was thinking of a lot of generic enemies, so I'm making that a second, self imposed rule.

1. Guardian (Breath of the Wild). Extremely heavy with lots of super armor, but with a predictable, easily counterable game plan. The "noob slayer" taken to the extreme (140 weight).
2. Whimsalot (Undertale). An extremely frail character, but has plenty of tools to keep the opponent away (58 weight).
3. Meowth team - A team of three Meowth - regular, Alolan, and Galarian. They all pretty much have the same moveset (down B as the sole exception), but have completely different stats (:052: is a jack-of-all-trades, Alolan Meowth is much lighter but quicker and stronger, and Galarian Meowth is a slow, defensive tank that hits harder than even Alolan Meowth. They switch by Shield-Special.
4. Slime (Dragon Quest) - A relatively simple fighter, though on the lighter side. Think Kirby, but with no feet and a slime.
5. Poppy Bros. Jr (Kirby) - a character that can summon various bombs, which can be thrown like items. They make up a much larger part of the moveset then they do in :ultyounglink:'s.

But yeah, stuff like this gives me the vibe a Direct is soon.

EDIT: The site can apparently be a bit sketchy, same ones who made the "Banjo Kazooie Switch" listing, soooo... Grain of salt.

The site also had listings for GTA VI and Bully 2 so it's most likely fake.

That said though I'll use this time to say people are really sleeping on Rockstar Games' chances.

Yeah, no, the thread for this on ResetERA got shut down because the site is so infamously unreliable and makes up bull**** all the time. This doesn't mean much of anything on its own unless some other sources put up similar listings.

For a rep in Smash you mean? Cause no, they're slept on appropriately. GTA is the one "too violent" bridge I don't think Nintendo would ever cross for Smash Bros. give it's own infamous reputation at this point, and boy howdy, the characters you would put in would uh... not be for good boys and girls to say the least. Even something like Red Dead is only marginally better, and even then, I feel like this another instance where Sakurai would back off based upon there just being nothing fun about the characters to really implement specially in the game since they're all bog standard protagonists mechanically speaking.

1. Nightmare (Soul Calibur) - Big Armor + Big Sword of Absolute Destruction = probably heavier than Bowser
2. Lilligant (Pokemon) - because I don't know many really small characters to post here so f* it lol
3. Agnés (Bravely Default) - Down+B is a counter-like command that halves the damage taken and gives you 1 BP; it allows you next hit to hit twice, even if it's a Smash Attack.
4. Miriam (Bloodstained) - A couple of weapons and shards abilities but no gimmicks (bonus for sharing the voice actress with Agnés)
5. Bomberman - Drop bombs that you can grab or kick into others

Could it work for a Spirit Event? Making a fun moveset is probably difficult, but what about spirit battles?

1. Porky (In a mech)
2. Hornet (Since she's an insect)
3. Doomguy (Ammo counter, with attacks that change depending on if ammo is available or not)
4. Captain Syrup (Regular swordy with a projectile or two)
5. Crash Bandicoot (Crates, including small chance of TNT crate, and smaller chance of a mini smash bros item crate containing one regular item)

And as luck would have it, these are my actual 5 most wanted characters, they just happen to fit into these categories.

You know, as much as I doubt this rumour, didn't people spot the Switch's button layout on the PC version of the game? Just wondering if that could mean anything for RDR2 on Switch.

  1. A bigger Ridley with better moves a la Project Legacy XP (2B would be cool too, like the person above me said)
  2. Skull Kid is pretty light (If he's not light enough, maybe Hornet from Hollow Knight?)
  3. Masked Link transforms for many of his moves (I think only transforming during moves a la Corrin makes more sense, but if that's not enough of a gimmick, I guess he can have four full movesets. This game seems to allow that.)
  4. Byleth or Rondoline... (If a whip sword isn't straightforward enough, how about Mage Ganondorf? Ephraim?)
  5. Andy from Advance Wars spawns giant tanks and other units

I'm honestly not too sure about that when :ultsnake: and :ultjoker: come from games with heavy violence and political themes; and :ultbayonetta:'s revel in sexuality and gore. Although - I should note myself - the comparision ain't perfect. Those three have for example supernatural elements, which GTA / RDR avoid for the most part. I could see RDR maybe getting in based on mechanics and Sakurai perhaps even inventing stuff a la Falcon. If Overwatch's McCree proved something, then it's that it's possible to make a memorable cowboy moveset (again, imperfect comparision, rolling with it). GTA I agree is much more difficult to realize as a playable character (partly because realistic weaponry is a major piece of GTA*)...

Could it work for a Spirit Event? Making a fun moveset is probably difficult, but what about spirit battles?
... but yes, I def. could see GTA Spirits happen. Sakurai's gone ahead with Paz Ortega (amongst others) already - so GTA Spirits wouldn't stretch things that much further. The true scumbags like GTA V's Trevor would never get in probably, but its other playable characters seem more realistic.

*(Segway: I've been meaning to bring this up for a while, but a related issue practically bars a category of games from Smash unless really drastic actions are taken. And even that's a major stretch. I'm talking about more realistic FPSes like CoD, Battlefield and CS:GO. What bars them are that their weapons are realistic, if not outright real and trademarked. Such as the AK-47, MP5 etc. Sakurai would understandably balk and say "No, not those weapons. Ever." on just those weapons' real life connotations.)

1. Eggman in Egg Walker
2. Balloon Fighter
3. Sonia from Puzzle and Dragons
- mulitple jumps
- landing combos powers up Neutral Special, which rotates between 3 commands; an exploding fireball, a dark-bomb, and a recovery move
- several attacks summon Lil' Red Dragon, who evolves into stronger forms as you land more hits
4. Nidoking
5. Ms. Pac-Man

1. Shake King (An absolute unit.)
2. Chibi-Robo (He would be a similar size like Pichu.)
3. Bandana Dee (Elemental Attacks.)
4. Poochy (He deserves to be in Smash.)
5. Camo (Exploding watermelons can be thrown.)
1. Wario
2. Chibi-Robo
3. Kirby
4. Yoshi
5. Skylanders

The site also had listings for GTA VI and Bully 2 so it's most likely fake.

That said though I'll use this time to say people are really sleeping on Rockstar Games' chances.
CJ, Claude, a Lemming or Jimmy Hopkins seem like top candidates if we ever got one.

1.) Dr Eggman. He’d be in a mech which is why he’d be so heavy. We’d finally get based Chemical Plant Zone as a track. It’s a crime it’s not already in Smash.

2.) The Knight (Hollow Knight). He’d have a lot of combo potential to make up for it though.

3.) Master Chief. He has a large arsenal of weapons that you can use. But you can only have two active at a time like in Halo.

4.) Ryu Hayabusa. He’d be pretty basic I imagine.

5.) 2B. 2B can summon Pod, who will fly around 2B & can attack the enemy. But he can be smacked around like Luma. The other player could even pick him up & throw him.

1. Mech Eggman I guess
2. Bandana Dee? idk if he'd be lighter than Pichu
3. Elma (you KNOW I was gonna slip her in here sooner or later). Switches between twin swords and twin guns.
4. Black Shadow, I guess
5. .....nope. I'm stuck.

1. Eggman (in Eggwalker or Eggmobile)
2. Frogger (he's a literal frog, he probably wouldn't weigh that much)
3. Steve (crafting mechanic. Collect material throughout the match to craft/upgrade stuff like armor and weapons)
4. Ryu Hayabusa
5. Arle Nadja (spawns puyos)

In comparison, Shantae is just some random indie character.
so what your saying that her getting
-trigger to do the opening for ss
-3 charigummni figures
-a funko pop
-a tokatu
Makes her some random indie character?

this seems more of leaning out from obscurity

1. Porky from Earthbound(Spider mech)
2.Yarn Kirby
3.Chibi-Robo, all about battery management. Maxing it out makes you transform into Golden Robo, emptying it halves your stats and power.
4.Kumatora from Mother 3. Lucas Echo with no tether but stronger PSI with unique damage traits.
5. Adeleine from Kirby. Summons paint creatures from a canvas, just like in Star Allies.
