She’s been requested as long as Shovel Knight has. Not fair to say that she’s the long lived indie request. Yeah she’s been around longer but don’t kid yourself if you think her support didn’t start with the ballot.
Lets be honest, no one really expected any Indie Character was possible until the Fighter Ballot, we all thought it would be Triple A, Tied-to-Nintendo characters. To many of us, the Fighter Ballot opened the doors for many 3rd Parties we never thought possible.
For that matter, prior to Smash 4, most people's 3rd Party pick was Mega Man..and Sonic before he was announced for Brawl. After they both got in there weren't really any big names that everyone rallied behind.

Weird idea of the day:

We've discussed digital pets, but how about something... new.*

Something like...

I never got into it myself, but I did know people that were fans way back when.
And the thing is still going (in some form) 20 years later...

Not exactly what I'd want, granted, but it's out there enough that I would at least get amusement out of it.

*New to Smash at least... Property is actually old, but I just really needed to play off of the 'neo' bit. :-(
Reminds me of when I played with my Webkinz rottweiler named Rocco, and a 'Mazin Hampster. Those were some good times.

Though if we're gonna bring in a rep from a pure virtual pet game I'd vote for nintendogs. Bonus points if they manage to make it some sort of duo character called nintendog + Cat.

I remember the day Mega Man was revealed at E3. It was talked about all-over, left and right. I didn't even know Smash was being done at the time, I was a stupid 12-year old who thought Brawl just came out or something.

Fun fact: I didn't know this website existed until I saw a Ghirahim support thread poster that linked here.

Allow me to take a moment to appreciate how everything leads back to Cortez because it truly f***ing does.
That's what I've been trying to tell people! Every time someone suggests an idea for a character, Cortez fits the bill every time!

Fighter 5 being obscure? Sgt. Cortez
Unrepresented genre? Sgt. Cortez
No violence or gore? Future Perfect might have blood but the previous two games don't.
Character diversity? You might think you got me there but watch this...

Cortez-becomes-a-woman-2.gif

He can turn into a woman! Plus he has 8 other characters he can turn into so there are no boundaries too great for Sgt. Cortez to overcome!

Okay but seriously though? I'd lose it if Neopets ended up in this game. Neopets and Lego Star Wars were the two games I played most as a kid, and we're not getting Lego Star Wars. There's 0 demand for it, but man, hearing some of these songs in Smash next to famous game tunes would be hilarious and wonderful. Give me my Yoko Shimomura remix of Meepit Juice Break.

The final smash of Neopets is paying hundreds of neopoints for playing stupid ass games and only getting like 1/10 of what you paid in return.

I chose "Blizzard / Activision" because I'm stoll holding out hope for my main man Tree Rex from Skylanders, and Zennyatta from Overwatch

Nah, the Final Smash has to be the Wheel of Monotony. It'd be like Hero's Command Deck but it takes 2 to 9 hours to select the attack.

You guys want to heard a stupid character idea? I literally dream yesterday that the fifth character was a Roller coaster tycoon rep. The character was basically those generics people that ride your attractions. The moveset was that when you do big combo, you have more money to install rides that do damage to opponent (think about them like the attraction from Kingdom hearts 3).

When I wake up I was like "what just happened in my head this night".

I brought it up here before.

It was a different time back then and I was young, but me circa 2002-ish would've thought Neopets would've been dope for Smash, haters be darned.

The penguin was pretty cute, but good Lord its name was not cool (no pun intended). I named my plushie Chilly, but its in-universe name was Bruce. Who'd name THIS Bruce?!
I don't see it happening, but it would be nostalgic. I had Chilly and Bunbun (it was a rabbit one). Although I heard something about it being a weird Scientology thing or something, and that kinda ruined it lol.

there is only one character so monumentally important that super smash brothers will forever remain incomplete unless he is added

Aw man, you don't want to hear Hasee Bounce (New Remix) during Sakurai's history lesson about how Neopets was run by a scientologist until it was sold to Viacom who sold it to someone else who sold it to China?

I have so many questions...Not sure if I want answers but I have questions.
tl;dr version is that the original CEO (not the site creators) was a scientologist. No clue how much of that leaked onto the site itself, but it's still pretty creepy.

Everything else is just business as usual.

Yeah, I doubt any of my ideas are particularly original at this point, so not surprised that it has come up.

My only real knowledge of the ownership was that it's been bandied about a few times.
From this and Tougon's post, there might be some interesting stories to read up on.

No love for Ori?
All of you are monsters!
Needs more 'I'.

(Yeah, yeah... Edgyboi McPurpleFire fits that too, I guess...)
Could have made a Stargate joke, but here we are...

Since 2020 is around the corner and I need new reasons to procrastinate, I decided that since after FP5 the floodgates open again, I'll put out my Top 5 for my most wanted, since my list has definitely changed from the pre-release list I had. Though honestly, only three of them have changed for one reason or another that I'll put in a little spoiler list. From the leftmost being #1 and rightmost being #5, I'll just be simple.

untitled.png

#5: Doomguy - It was either Doomguy or Master Chief. Both are innovators of the FPS genre, making large impacts and being recognizable beings. I chose Doomguy not because Sakurai acknowledged him or for Bethesda/Nintendo teasers, but because I find his insanely violent nature and crazy set of weapons more fun than what Master Chief has. Using the super shotgun and chainsaw wouldn't be as cool as using one of the energy swords or cool shields you do in things like Halo, but goddamn is it ridiculous and fun. With his new grappling chain thing in Eternal, it's also good potential to make him a very effective rush down character, because that's what DOOM has always been. Instead of the tactical shoot, hide, shoot FPS mission you see in stuff like CoD campaigns, you run circles around demons ****ing blowing off their heads and ripping their guts out. I could take either/or, but this is just who I prefer in the end. Violence has never been the issue, Doom Slayer is certainly a good boy.

#4: Kazuma Kiryu - For SEGA, what do you have? Sonic and Bayonetta. What's left? Phantasy Star, Sakura Wars, and my favorite SEGA franchise, Yakuza. It's ****ing tense, it's ****ing wacky, and it's ****ing amazing. If we don't have true beat 'em up characters, we can get the next best thing. Yakuza is a fantastic action RPG with an easily implementable moveset for Kiryu to use and all of his fighting styles throughout the game. He can also use peripheral items to beat the **** out of you: like swords, traffic cones, entire bicycles and couches, that type of stuff. Nintendo has released Yakuza 1 and 2 on Wii U, so they're not scared of putting the game on their system, it's just more home and graphically capable on the Playstation. It didn't stop Joker, anyway. The soundtrack is also damn good, and you'll be seeing me smashing my keyboard like the 2006 Angry German Kid if I don't see 24-Hour Cinderella in the soundtrack. Violence has never been the issue, Kiryu is certainly a good boy.

#3: Travis Touchdown - I'm a huge fan of Suda51 for his wacky game vision, I got Killer7 off a garage sale and found it really fun. When I learned he made No More Heroes and Let it Die, it seemed really clear that I was always gonna be a fan of his games. And damn was I ever. No More Heroes may not be wholly exclusive to Nintendo, with NMH1 on PS3 and TSA on other platforms, but Grasshopper is its own independent company so that doesn't matter much considering NMH was geared towards the Wii's motion controls from its conception. I welcome more Hack n' Slash characters with open arms, if there was a #6 you know I'd pick Dante. With No More Heroes 3 around the corner and looking prettier than the series has ever been (like holy **** Fu's design and Travis' touch-up make me melt), he's got a personality and attitude to let Travis come home. He's clearly got precedence, I've seen people all across this website rally for him and outright expect him to be a shoo-in. Yes, his games are violent, but Nintendo has had no problem censoring trailers and appearances of Travis before, just check the extended cut of the E3 NMH3 and Travis Strikes Again trailer, complete with blood and cursing. Violence has never been the issue, Travis is certainly a good boy.

#2: Scorpion - I'll defend Mortal Kombat having a chance until the day I die. It's an innovator of western fighting games and essentially one of the last few remaining juggernauts. You see it at EVO, you see it at the Game Awards, people still love Ed Boon's little baby. Hanzo Hasashi is undoubtedly the series' mascot character like Ryu is to Street Fighter, and is a recognizable video game character in general. And no, it still isn't banned in Japan, I don't know what keeps telling people this. I'm assuming it's the wikipedia article on Mortal Kombat that tells it such. MKX got a release on Japanese systems, Netherrealm Studios just doesn't want to change the game to localize it in the East. I think Scorpion had potential, but I'm not saying he's likely. He'll always my pipedream. Violence has never been the issue, Scorpion is certainly a good boy.

#1 Waluigi - goddammit sakurai release my man from assist trophy hell, read my support thread for the full details.

Honorable Mentions are Dante, Ryu Hayabusa, and Claude von Fire Emblem.

Black Shadow, Ryu Hayabusa and Mach Rider were in my last list but got thrown out. BS and MR was a combination of desperate Echo wants and hoping the Grinch leak was valid even though it clearly wasn't. Ryu Hayabusa (and also Dante) is still up there for me, but I got priorities. I want Claude more than the next Golden Deer but my brain and logic knows Byleth is the optimal choice for 3 Houses characters.

excuse my fanboying post if you want i just wanted to gush about stuff i like

As someone who religiously played the original 2 DS games every chance I got as a kid, I can safely say that Scribblenauts' lighthearted paper cut-out artstyle and tone would lend itself well to Smash, and that Maxwell would undoubtedly be the most unique third-party addition to the roster thus far. His moveset potential is essentially limitless due to the nature of his magic notebook, and there are so many different ways his fighting style could function mechanically.

For example, he could have a set amount of items he could summon with each of his specials and regular attacks, and the items could linger on the battlefield for just little bit after the initial attack. Each item he creates could interact with the other in a ton of different combinations while they're on the field, allowing for some truly nutty combos to take place. Another way he might work is that his capacity to summon objects could be similar to Hero's, in that he'll have to choose from a menu of randomly selected objects by pressing down-B. He could also choose specific adjectives to attach to each of his objects in the same manner. Heck, he could even be a mix of both the playstyles I listed, or something entirely different. That's the sheer beauty of having a character like this, there's just so many ways Sakurai and his team can make a great moveset for him!
Great ideas! Yeah the hardest thing with Maxwell is designing a move set that can encapsulate his limitless potential, but seeing how crazy new characters are getting it now seems much more plausible.

Violence has never been the issue, Kiryu is certainly a good boy.

I love the disconnect between Yakuza's gameplay and it's narrative. (Also nice choices for your wishlist!)

lol

yakuza was designed to be a polar opposite of GTA, you can't hurt innocent civilians because kiryu would never do that. but ****, some ruffians trying to pick a fight? blast 'em to the seven seas, who cares. grind that exp baby, daddy needs to learn a suplex climax

In Scribblenauts, you play as Maxwell, a young boy with a magical notebook that can summon anything, and I mean ANYTHING!
Sounds familiar...
I like that type of characters, but for obvious reasons, as a Kirby fan, I prefer a certain someone else who has similar skills.

Isn't Adelene such a meme in the Kirby community for explicitly not getting into Kirby games?

Every week you'd see on /v/ "IT'S HER TIME!!!!!" for Star Allies and she was one of the last ones to be actually put in the game.

That somewhat reminds me of how Daisy wasn't in the base game of Super Mario Maker. Yet Waluigi was. The hell? I mean, I like Waluigi more, sure, but she's still an overall core Mario character. At least she got in Super Mario Run(too bad Waluigi didn't).

His hitbox would be broken, probably. Mans is too tall.
Heh. Yeah, I think everyone is supposed to be completely interchangeable? I remember it working similarly in New Super Mario Bros.(which is why the Toads are playable, having the same general size as the Mario Bros.).

Welp, since Christmas Vacation is coming up, I wouldn't be surprised if it's going to be radio silence followed by a bunch of leaks on the final days of the vacation

All I know about Neopets is that lots of girls grew up with it and learned how to program with HTML because of it, and that the creators of it were Scientology members.

So, uh, aside from the latter, I'd be okay with Neopets in Smash.

That's selling her pretty short. Adeleine is fairly popular in the Kirby community, and may even be the character who jumpstarted the paint-to-life influx in the 2000s. She had a lot going for her overall to make her recurring, but nonetheless got left behind in her own series. That's not a meme, it's a shame.

Also, she was put in Star Allies near the center of the DLC hype cycle, but for some reason got her reveal delayed a month after the other Wave 2 characters. She also cameos in Super Kirby Clash and some of the official Kirby Twitter's art.
