I mean, it'll be a shame, but it's not like Phoenix is the only potentially super cool or interesting or "hype" pick for a lot of people. I'd say Sora is far more likely than him, even. The pool is much larger than any of us give it credit. I just hope people don't try and rub it in Phoenix supporters' faces and be jerks about it just because we dared to get excited about a character we love, lol.

To be fair, those songs were only used in Smash Run, because they were coded differently as far as I remember, being the only songs that were designed to fit a five minute mark, and the only songs that actually "end".

1. They're already balls deep in Smash content
2. The recent RE spirits imply there is continued work with them

WIth Namco out of the running (according to leakers), a Capcom rep is the easiest big company Nintendo might choose from aside from Nintendo itself.

With that and Dante being out, the stars could align for Phoenix when he was originally slept on in favor of RE or DMC.

It’s more that Verge has shot down basically every heavily speculated character except non-Dante Capcom characters so people will be thrown for a loop (again). Imagine the Terry reveal but we don’t have 3 days to prepare for it.

I didn't know of Geno until last year. I thought he was frickin' cool just by looking at his design, and I started to like him even more after playing SMRPG earlier this year. I watched the Forest Maze music video + Rawest Forest and liked them, but ingame Geno has a nice and cool personality imo so I don't like him just 'cause of the videos. Geno is now my #2 most-wanted, though I don't really have a personal attachment to him like some people such as Fatmanonice; I just think he's awesome.

I think Geno has a good chance for post-pass if Sakurai wants to add another core-fanbase fan request or whatever; I don't know why they're all banking on Nightmare, sure Vergeben may be piggybacking but if he is, he's still proven to be mostly reliable when it comes to Smash so *shrug*.

Given how the Smash channel didn't update from this new private video, it probably doesn't mean a newcomer trailer. Nekoo might be right about them originally being Smash 4 ads

Also, there was a fake leak with Phoenix that could prompt insiders to deconfirm him (just like they did with Gordon and Hayabusa) but Sabi and Vergeben haven't said a single word about him.

As a Phoenix fan myself I have to admit this isn't much going for him (considering characters like Monster Hunter are still running), but this is probably the closest Wright will ever get to be in front center of the speculation scene soooo...I guess i should juts hype responsibly at this point.

Well first off: Nightmare is a cool character that would bring something new to the table being a 3rd party villain with a huge *** sword. Watch this video if you haven't already:

And there is also the fact that Soul Calibur is the 2nd biggest crossover franchise in gaming next to Smash. There is a lot of good reasons for wanting or expecting a Soul Calibur rep in Smash.

It's worth noting that Geno discussion was very much at an all time low during Smash 4 speculation. His thread here barely got any traction compared to the Brawl one. It was the costume and Sakurai's statement that largely rekindled the fire for Geno. And now that I think characters like Ridley, King K. Rool, and Banjo & Kazooie are in, for some Geno fans there is a sense of "we're next," whether or not they actually are.

I'm a huge SMRPG fan, so Geno getting in would just be cool on that level, but otherwise I'm fairly neutral leaning to positive. If he makes it, cool, if not, no biggie. I would understand why Sakurai/Nintendo didn't want to put him in. (Or uh, Square for that matter.)

The thing is Geno's speculation for Smash 4 didn't start to pick up steam again when the ballot happened and then we ended up getting Cloud. When Cloud got into Smash 4, I would say that was when it got shot up again, cause we FINALLY got a Square character but not the one people thought we would get as a first Square character.

From what i've seen, Fatman's main mantra is how the post pass DLCs are gonna be pretty much all fanservice pick and that's because most of them are gonna be characters that can benefit from reusing assets from Mii costumes and whatnot, and often draws parallel to the Mewtwo/Lucas/Roy Sm4sh DLC, saying stuff like "Oh those character were fanservice and were also decided after Mewtwo just like the post-pass DLC were decided after the first intended DLC for Ultimate. They're totally gonna focus on the core fanbase and reuse a lot of assets to promote some characters"

...yeah i wonder how that will turn out. This is basically him just saying "Geno is in guys I swear". But then again, the real problem is people taking what he says as gospel.

I think Cloud being the first Square-Enix character to get into Smash was always going to be a thing. He was going to get in before a Dragon Quest protagonist, Geno, Sora, or Lara Croft because Final Fantasy is literally the face of JRPGs and that franchise is Square-Enix's biggest one.

I’ll tell you exactly why.

If Nightmare is FP5, this would lend credence to one of Fatmans theories that could lead to Geno being playable.

Even after someone extremely credible ruled out Namco, they are still plugging their ears and denying it, simply because they likely believe Nightmare = Geno. And they want Nightmare/any Namco rep to be FP5 at all costs.

No ill will toward them, but they really haven’t learned that much from the Grinch days.
