Why does anybody want any character? I don't think many people have much of a reason beyond personal attachment or thinking they'd be a cool addition. I see a lot of out there character wants in this thread but I'm not turning my nose up at them because who am I to say they're not justified or that they would be a bad pick?

There's a difference between adding popular requested characters and adding a blatant shill pick who is just there to advertise a game coming out, a game that is divisive among Fire Emblem fans. It's even worse when Corrin's reveal came right after the ballot when Nintendo asked for fan requests.

It's been 5 years, it's way past time to get over Corrin

Yeah, Crash would be pretty cool too. I think the reason I like the idea of Spyro better though is because he's a dragon (my favorite mythological creature) and he's purple (my favorite color).

Basically, I just like Spyro's design more, ha ha. Crash would be pretty sick, though.

Agreed. I think Geno would be a fine pick. My original post was mainly sharing that I've just never really understood why he has the core Smash following he does, but thanks to some of the responses I got, I think I get it a little better now.

It's worth noting that Geno discussion was very much at an all time low during Smash 4 speculation. His thread here barely got any traction compared to the Brawl one. It was the costume and Sakurai's statement that largely rekindled the fire for Geno. And now that I think characters like Ridley, King K. Rool, and Banjo & Kazooie are in, for some Geno fans there is a sense of "we're next," whether or not they actually are.

I'm a huge SMRPG fan, so Geno getting in would just be cool on that level, but otherwise I'm fairly neutral leaning to positive. If he makes it, cool, if not, no biggie. I would understand why Sakurai/Nintendo didn't want to put him in. (Or uh, Square for that matter.)

My viewpoint is Corrin was either going to be Smash 4 DLC or was going to be an Ultimate newcomer, so if you want to think about it that way at least this way Corrin didn't "steal a slot" in Ultimate. It was bad timing but after we got an entire game catered to the fans' wishes, I'm not going to lose sleep over what I perceive to be a misfire. I was upset at the inclusion back then too but I can't conjure up enough energy to be upset anymore.

That said, if I was going for a shill pick to promote a 2015 Nintendo game, I would have picked Elma. I'm just saying!

We still got Chrom, so I don't think Sakurai would reject a Three Houses character over that.

First party support thread blames them along with PP for damning the chances of their wants, but it's first-party support thread so who cares.

The struggle with Corrin really is that Fates just. Wasn't good. It's a shame it's leaked into residual FE/"anime swordsman" hate, which is ironic considering that Corrin like, turns into a dragon and has a weird chainsaw thing, but I really feel like if the game wasn't so controversial (and it has looked worse and worse as the years go by) they would've been fine, if a bit unexciting in comparison.

Stuff like Corrin being picked over Elma or Wonder Red does hurt, though. And yeah, I'm glad that it seems like at least among the fanbase and more open-minded people, the stigma isn't being applied to a potential Three Houses rep. Probably because that game's actually good.

Yeah like it’s whatever that Corrin is in the game. While Sakurai could’ve added someone else in over him, it was not his plan to do so. Corrin was simply prioritized more than (insert most wanted) here. It’s not a matter of slots.

That being said, it does make me happy that people are a bit more open to a 3H rep. I love that game dude. It would make up for all of that I think.

Oh god. Oh f***. If they keep adding more of those leading up to the reveal, then the delusion is one step closer to becoming a reality.

The delusion is for that to happen AND they reveal the entirety of season 2, but they don't tell us the release dates to keep speculation and hype alive. I want this result.

Also at the time, Corrin was disappointing because they were the only Nintendo DLC newcomer for Smash 4. While it's possible Piranha Plant is the only DLC Nintendo newcomer for Ultimate, at least now we have a better sense of what to expect for DLC so it won't come as much of a shock or a let down.

(Banjo is basically a Nintendo character as far as his fans are concerned, anyway...)

The man was wondering why people got angry over Corrin and I provided an explanation. Corrin was controversial when initially announced and time passage doesn't change that. Now Corrin is just a character in a 70 fighter roster who most people forget is in the game. Legacy is more important than recency, feel free to disagree with me but that's how I feel about newcomers in general.
