I don't know if we've talked about this, and I don't put very much stock in what the dude reports on because, quite frankly, I think he's an idiot, but LaxChris posted a video about Gordon Freeman that claims to have a credible source. Begrudgingly, I scanned through his video to read the posts and it looks like there may be some merit to it.

I mean I've never really considered him, but he'd be left-field enough and epic enough to be a great pick. The franchise is legendary.

Thoughts?
Valve is doing stuff with the franchise, like that VR game, so I wouldn't put it past them to do everything with Half-Life except for HL3. But Gordon is one of the characters that I wouldn't believe any leaks even if I saw video footage, he's that much of a "no way".

Would be hella hype though.

Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
Has Nintendo usually had Directs, Direct announcements, or anything else on that date?
  • F-Zero launched in Japan on this day in 1990 as the racing series’ debut.
  • Super Mario World came out alongside it in Japan, also in 1990.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past arrived in Japan the following year, in 1991.
  • Yoshi’s Cookie launched on both NES and Game Boy (again, in Japan) in 1992.
  • Donkey Kong Country made it to North America on this day in 1994.
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was Nintendo’s big Japanese release on Nov. 21, 1998.
  • Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver launched for Japanese fans in 1999.
  • Sin and Punishment came to Nintendo 64 this day in 2000 as a Japanese exclusive. It wouldn’t make it overseas until its Wii Shop Channel release in September 2007.
  • Super Smash Bros. Meleelaunched in Japan on Nov. 21, 2001.
  • Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire launched in Japan in 2002, exactly three years after the series’ previous entries.
  • Pokémon Colosseum followed in Japan in 2003.
  • The Nintendo DS changed Nintendo’s handheld line dramatically when it launched in North America in 2004.
  • Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt, a demo for the Nintendo DS game, launched in 2004.
  • Super Mario 64 DS was another system launch title in 2004.
  • Donkey Kong Country Returnsrevitalized the Nov. 21 tradition for North America in 2010.
  • Super Mario 3D World launched on Wii U in Japan on Nov. 21, 2013. (It came out in the U.S. the next day.)
  • Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire arrived worldwide in 2014, exactly 15 years after their predecessors.
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii Ulaunched in North America alone on the same day in 2014.
  • Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival was Wii U’s most notable release in both Japan and Australia in this day in 2015.
  • Animal Crossing: Pocket Campbrought the life sim series’ mobile debut worldwide on this day in 2017, a day earlier than expected.

Lax-Chris disdain aside, if Gordon Freeman actually shows up to smash it out with the best of them, I'm pretty confident that he would be the most unexpected, unorthodox left-field third-party character in the best possible way. I'm talking a full-on hype nuke that would rival the reveals of Cloud, Snake, Banjo, and Joker. I'm not exactly familiar with the Half-life series, so can any of you kind folks offer up some info on what Gordon's abilities are in his own games, and how he could likely work as a smash character?

Outside of his arsenal of guns? He has the gravity gun (a gun that can grab/lift objects and move/launch them. Would function well as a grab) and his melee weapon is his ever trusty crowbar. It's hard to say if he would have most of his guns in smash, but he could still have a crossbow, grenades, a pair of uranium-fueled weapons, and snarks (tiny abominable aliens that you can throw at enemies, but will turn around and attack you if there's no enemies for them to target). One could also consider pheropods, but that would mean summoning antlions and I am not sure if that would work well in the context of Smash gameplay.

SneakyLink SneakyLink Are you sure there was a "Coming Soon" listed to begin with? Using the Wayback Machine on the site, I can't find anything that was deleted.

Good luck to both of us then...
*starts prayer circle*
No, we want it to age poorly.
Self-preservation yo.
I think people are hoping for any new development, not necessarily an official announcement.

Well, I know that's the case with me anyway.
I mean if anything is going to happen today, it would be an official announcement. Leakers are prob on mute if nothing is inbound til' the VGA's.

He would probably be an out-of-field character who could be clearly unexpected. It'll bring the hype.

and my fist is sweating...again.

If Gordon Freeman gets in, it'll be the first character to have absolutely no presence on a Nintendo console. Not even a cameo.
So if the Gordon Freeman leak is true, then 2B is possible as ****.

There's always the slight possibility that Smash could throw us a curveball and the final character turns out to be a first party choice.
I've always thought that if a CERTAIN tall, skinny, purple man with creepy eyes and crooked mustache thats excellent in soccer and tennis were to join.... itd sneakily be as Fighter #5

And here's to my inevitable disappointment. And here's to my suspension from Smashboards...

His reveal trailer will be him stealing the invitation from the intended Fighter 5, who is then given another invitation as a consolation prize and revealed to be Fighter 6 instead.
