Still sounds like a waste of time. You could just as well drop by only once a day, or once every two days, and you still wouldn't miss much. Even if a leak were to come out, that wouldn't be enough time for it to be properly verified.

Surely...I was here during the entire Mii Costume debavle and saw it first hand with my own eyes.

I think there's more to the Mii Costume release strategy than meets the eye. But how much that informs the order is hard to say.

I too think the Mii Costumes are real but for the future.
I misspoke a couple days ago when I saw the Mallow hat modded in, but I didn't notice how much lower quality it is.
But I always believed Geno is imminent and that Mallow's getting a costume because of the leak that predicted Goemon and Rocket Grunts.
One seems like luck, two seems much more likely to be a real leak.
But since Sabi came out that Fighter 5 is not Doom Slayer or Geno, I believe her.
My gut is shifting between Monster Hunter and Lloyd, but a small voice in my head is whispering "Jonesy".
I always thought that Fighter 5 is a gunner due to the first four being a summoner, swordfighter, platforming mascot, and a brawler. Gunner fits for variety, and Jonesy is a great pick that simultaneously makes no sense and all the sense in the world.

My gut is shifting between Monster Hunter and Lloyd, but a small voice in my head is whispering "Jonesy".

KOS-MOS is a gunner. She has multiple weapons though her guns are more associated with her. In Xeno2, her main weapon was a gun, so that fits your bill.

It's anybody's guess as to who Fighter 5 is. Mainly because there isn't really a theme tying all the characters together. No one guessed Banjo after DQ Hero and no one guessed Terry Bogard after Banjo.

If I were to hazard a guess, based on absolutely nothing, it'd be either Crash Bandicoot or Master Chief. Either of those characters would be the one to end Season 1 with a bang (especially if Spyro gets revealed as the first character for Season 2 immediately after Crash).

Master Chief...is a mixed bag. One hand says that we already have Microsoft as part of the companies in Smash, and them getting Chief would seem logical. On the other, he wasn't exactly on Nintendo (but this was the case for Joker), so it's kinda blurry.

Sorry for the delay, it was almost midnight when I saw the replies.

Do you remember why they were obvious? Leaks and rumors. Hero having a datamine to back him up.

Big disagree from me, chief. The only one that was remotely obvious was Hero, and even then people were still debating if it was DQ related or not.

...Which is exactly why I never said Banjo and Hero were obvious specifically: I said Square and Microsoft were obvious. Read the quote again:

In fact, considering Smash frontloads reveals, Capcom makes sense to me exactly because they're "obvious".

Also, what made them obvious was not just leaks. People speculated on a Microsoft rep for ages because of all the collaborations between them and Ninty. Heck, remember what caused us to originally speculate about Kyo, Cyber? SNK's collaboration streak and their relationship to Nintendo. Nothing more. You don't always need leaks to see that a Smash appearance can happen because of how close a company is to Nintendo.

"Who are the Square/Microsoft reps" was pretty much all that everyone talked about from Joker's reveal all the way to E3. So yeah, I'd say that makes these reps pretty obvious - again, not Hero and Banjo themselves, but the fact that we were going to get a Square character and a Microsoft character.

I also feel like adressing these points:

Seriously? Banjo and Kazooie were always front runners because of their fan backing and relationship with Nintendo. They were never guaranteed before Shinobi, sure, but to say that they never stood a chance before the leaks is just absurd. I disagree. Everyone and their mother predicts a capcom rep because "Super successful Series deserve to be in Smash". Contrary to that thought, I think the opposite. No franchise is deserving no matter how successful it is.

...What does that even mean? People think Capcom is likely due to a lot of different things, but at its core, Capcom games just have a lot of fans and the games are good. That's all there is to it. They're also easy to work with, love crossovers and nearly all candidates from them would add a lot to the Pass.

I agree that comparing "deservedness" between franchises is dumb, but to say that a lot of these games are "undeserving", no matter how good they are is just... that ain't it, chief.

You might as well count Capcom USA as a completely separate entity from Capcom, then. DQ still belongs to one half of Square Enix and Atlus belongs to Sega. So they are new companies, yes, but you may also count them as different segments from existing companies. I really doubt anyone would count Steve as just "Mojang" instead of Microsoft if he got in.

This is gonna be like last time when everyone initially did not know that it wss Cloud until the reveal happened; anyone who avidly played FF7 (or Halo in this case) will surely know that it's Cloud from the first frame alone.

If anything, he's one of the very few characters who would work if Nintendo went for broke and revealed him in a Super Bowl commercial.

That'd be incredibly difficult, if not almost impossible to top.

Kinda wondering whether to put my dreams into that Ice Climbers datamine thing; like even if the Chorus Kids weren't going to be designed like them in Smash 4 (assuming it was totally them as the Rhythm Heaven character pick), would they still look at the Ice Climber files for inspiration or something?

Halo trailers have always had a tendency of throwing people off of their scent as very best they could since Halo 3. Halo 3's first trailer opened with 2 kids in a field discussing what could be in space before showing the Chief throw down a bubble shield and block an incoming projectile. Halo 5 showed Chief trekking across a desert completely cloaked. And Halo Infinite showed a bunch of nature and wildlife before showing Chief.

They have to do that. They have to show off close ups of the fantasy world of Halo itself, the wildlife, the artifacts, without giving it away and then towards the end of the trailer panning towards the curve of the ring revealing that it is indeed Halo. Have Samus and Link and others step into the camera looking over the "horizon" of Halo only to be encountered by a barrage of attacks from out of nowhere. The Chief steps in. "Master Chief Finishes the Fight". The Halo theme kicks in. Gameplay is shown over that iconic guitar rift. Perfect.
