I think its interesting how many of us feel DK will only get one newcomer (including myself), but generally everyone agrees that both K. Rool and Dixie Kong deserve to be in Smash 4.

I was wondering if you think that we can considerate the idea to play at SSB4 not with 4 players but instead 5 players like in the Wii U chase demo.

Ice Climbers are retro revivals, thus more important than Sheik for being brought up to life after so long. I'd be cool with all if Sheik ACTUALLY was in TP. That'd be at least 2 appearancesm which would warrant her return some day. I'd probably still support her for Smash 4 if she was in TP, but she wasn't. And because of that, and Impa being the Sheikah of choice in SS, I think they'll want to use her from noe on as a staple character to the series.

Fire Emblem would be good to discuss to. But it'll turn into Roy vs Chrome anyway.

:phone:
Sheik was in TP. Sheik was unused, but was in nonetheless. :troll:

@Chronobound: I think DK should get both. They're bigger than Kirby, but have fewer reps? That doesn't sit right with me. But if we only get one, I'd rather it be K. Rool.

They both deserve to be in fo' sho. If people just want 3 characters though, couple Dixie with Diddy and add in K.Rool, all problems solved.

Funny how this can thick up both the Zelda characters and thin out the DK characters if they must. But I still say DK easily deserves 4spots, but am quite anxious about it honestly.

If Sakurai does it though, I really want him to have my babies to make a new DKC game for Wii U afterwards! Especially after seeing what he did to the Kongs in the SSE. He is the first Japanese dude who actually gets the series, and doesn't shove DK into a wannabe King Kong role :glare:

I do not care whether we get two Donkey Kong characters or not. Makes no difference to me. Most people do not like the idea because it does not fit their idea of proper representation. Simple as that.

Hey Piemans here. Well doesn't that beat all.

DK has the same amount of sales as Zelda. It definitely deserves four playable characters. If there is any series outside of the Big 3 that should have four playable characters, its certainly Donkey Kong.

Chrono: Agreed. DK-series' presentation would be just damn completed afterwards then. Besides, I'm quite looking forward for Dixie because DKC3 needs love too.

"To" help out. "Too" is used when talking about something in abundance or as a way to say "also". Every other instance you use "to". Sorry, that was bothering me.

Doesn't matter. Perception is different than the sales of the series. Pure, raw sales numbers do not and should not determine the roster.

Whut? You where in a coma during the SNES days? If you didn't play DKC on SNES, boy you missed out.

4 DK characters is in no way over representation. Dixie was almost in Brawl even, and K.Rool is hugely demanded. We're speaking of over representation if they add in a 5th character, but DK, Diddy, Dixie and K.Rool are the Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser of the DK series. And Mario, Zelda and Pokemon will most likely have more than 4 characters anyway :/

I'd even say Fire Emblem, Kirby and StarFox could have 4 characters without it being over kill.

You 16 though Metal Overlord?

From the Skyward Sword spoiler thread for the non believers :

I would totally be down with that. Give Zelda a new moveset based around her SS appearance, then replace Sheik with Impa as an entirely new character. Throw Ghirahim in there are boom, AWESOME.
I'm very late, I know, but THIS! DO WANT.

Especially for a new Zelda moveset. And her SS appearance. *shot*

This. I don't think the big 3 are the only franchises that should get 4+ reps. I want DK to get Dixie and K.Rool.

*puts on flame shield* I'd also like to see Starfox get Krystal as a fourth rep.

Yeah, I guess, I just hate how YOUNG I look lol

Back on topic, somewhat, I'm a lot different from most other people as my favorite Zelda game is Wind Waker (though I never finished OoT or Majora's Mask)

Right behind you with a knife.
*Still no one commenting*

Oh well, I'm still going to complete this!

Brawl's Intro:

So then we had Brawl's Intro. This one does not start off with the logo like the rest, but immediately starts moving through basically all the characters that you've unlocked at the time and whizzes by them eventually showing them all looking over a cliff with the Sun making an X sign.

As most of you should probably know, Brawl was Smash Bros X in Japan, so the X here is supposed to symbolize that. Doesn't quite translate over into English that well, but whatever. This opening scene in particular is half made up just for this intro and half from SSE, since this is the final scene. As mentioned, what makes this particularly unique is the fact that when you start up the game for the first time, you only have the starting roster, and characters keep on getting added. Hopefully something akin to this could be used for a Smash 4 intro.

At this point the title comes in, though not the title screen. We now start getting into the snippets of SSE cutscenes, but I'm still going to make a few comments here. First off, the initial image is of Mario turning from a trophy into his real self, just like the Melee intro. Right afterwards, we have Link doing a pose, just like the Melee intro. Kirby then just shows up, though that's when the Melee intro stuff ends, since he's just waving around, and Pikachu is no where in sight. Pit then fights some Primed, Zelda/Peach stare at stuff, and Meta-Knight swoops around. Next its DK screaming, Diddy shooting, and Fox and Dedede just standing around. For a brief amount of time, we get some in game stuff before ZSS stares at her armor. Wario, Olimar, Yoshi, Ice Climbers, Ness, PT, Lucas, and Bowser then proceed to pose or shake or...sleep? Yoshi you never do anything in these intros do you?

Yoshi was sort of just sleeping there in the 64 intro too.

We finally get to see Sonic and Snake here, and at this point have seen 3 secret characters. Also we see their stages, since we've stopped being SSE cutscenes again. At this point though the starting roster has all been shown (plus Ness/Snake/Sonic) so we get more and more gameplay footage...also Ike was shown earlier, just not in a SSE context. At this point it goes back to SSE footage, though its not character specific. We have a line up of Link/Mario/Pit/Yoshi/Kirby, and a Arwing and then Zelda with Kirby and what not. Also a brief shot of the end of the game again? After another SSE clip of Charizard, we resume gameplay, and see Ivysaur. The gameplay footage now though emphasizes the stages rather than the characters, and is mostly wide angled shots. More SSE clips follow (With Ike and Squirtle) and it goes for some of the more "epic" parts without spoiling all too much, like having Marth (Oh yeah, another secret character) and MK fight against the Subspace army, and Fox going against the Halberd. Also that one scene with Bowser and his minions. As it starts to wind down, we get Mario and Link again, and then a lot of Halberd. They seem to be showing the Halberd a lot. I think they may have imported it from that canceled GCN Kirby game Finally, we are at the main screen.

Alright, lets wrap this up. The title screen here is somewhat elaborate, though more muted than the previous ones. Its also cleaner. Melee's had lots of lines going around, and was sort of kaleidoscope like. Brawl's doesn't really shift colors, though it seems sort of water like, though it isn't uniform. It has text sort of scrolling the bottom. I'd say its style is more "modern" like Melee's was, but more of today's style, with less superfluous things about it, though there are still things shifting around back there. It also contrasts Melee's which was dark and seemed to have sharper colors, while Brawl's is light and more bloomed. Personally I prefer Melee's style there, not really because of the dark colors, but rather I like how elaborate it is rather than efficient, and I really do prefer sharper colors rather than blurry/Bloomed colors.

So lastly here, what can Smash 4 take away from this? Personally I'd say its the fact that the intro changes with more characters. Ideally, I'd say that Smash 4 have two intros, one which was the starting cast, and emphasized each of said starting cast members in their respective universes, and then another intro when you've got all the characters that focus more on the characters interacting. Brawl essentially starts out as the first, and ends up the later, though with not that many secret characters. Melee did this too, though it had a lot more emphasis on the characters being individuals. It also gave the individual shots a lot more time, but that was probably due to a smaller roster. Smash 4's roster would probably drag the intro if they gave all the time Melee did to its characters.

Anyways, that's it. If I got at this again, I'll probably get into the aesthetics of the menus. Sort of pointless, but I want to start a bit smaller, and work my way through how a person would work their way with the game. Thus I started with the intro. There's really not much to add here other than my idea of two intros and how the title screen should be. Well maybe less the title screen, since I'm not exactly sure what that would really look good as. Maybe sharp light blue or a focus on fire like 64 had.

I think the Blue Shell should be an item in Smash 4. When thrown, it will fly off the screen, and randomly return later in the match to hit however is in lead with stock/points/damage/coins. Would also be pretty powerful.
