i just don't know why any american would want lucas. no one really knows his story...and if SSBB is supposed to be the "greatest" nintendo characters of all time, I think Ness is more historic than Lucas.

I think we need Ness. If Lucas was there along with Ness, I wouldn't mind at all, but in my mind if Lucas replaced Ness there would feel like something is missing. A Veteran fighter from the N64 days and, now, a pretty well recognized character. He should be returning.

There is nothing hinting Lucas's inclusion or Ness's exclusion. I wish people would stop claiming otherwise. I hardly think the design based off of a 32-bit game can qualify what character will be included.

The Franklin badge hints at Lucas (IMO) because of its importance in Mother 3, it was an alright item in EB, but it was storyline-vital in M3. Look it up... And well, I'm just assuming, we all know anything can happen.

If they do kick out Ness (Please NO) they better include Claus to make up for it, but I still wish Ness can be left in with Lucas.

Disadvantages:

ªOld dog doesn't learn new tricks. Lucas could have a new moveset, and for Ness' fans would be rare.

No, Lucas is more popular than Ness. Even Ninten is more popular than Ness even though they're similar. Ness was only in the original Smash because he was in Mother 2, the same thing was going to happen with Lucas in Melee if Mother 3 was released for the N64.

The franklin badge in brawl is model after a little badge you were given for pre ordering mother 3 in japan. So the badge confirms a character from the Mother series but it really is more about Lucas then Ness

I really hope Ness appears in brawl, especially like that! he would look so cool. I personally wish that all this ness or lucas decision would stop and they just put both in. But if the had to choose one I'd go with Ness

Claus has more personality than Ness ever could, of course he's going to better, even though Claus' personality was dormant pretty much through the whole game as the Masked Man, he did have a personality of his own rather than the silent Ness.

I honestly would have Paula over Ness tbh. She was the most important character in Earthbound.

She contacted Jeff in order to save them, otherwise the quest would have not been able to continue, She also played a vital role in the fight against Giygas, as she prayed (communcated) with people to give them strength to defeat Giygas. Without her ablity to do that Ness and co would of never been able to defeat him.

It's like Harry Potter. Hermione(Paula) does all the work, and Harry(Ness) get's credit for it.

Harry does deserve some praise however most of what he got into he never would of been able to figure it out without Hermoine, so she deserves respect. With Earthbound the story was so centered around Ness I often wondered why? Just because he was the chosen one(-.- I guess so) And it is a fact that without Paula; Ness and co would of never won that fight.

Although I did jump the gun, do not fret, Ness fans! There is still a glimmer of hope...

Sakurai puts it this way: "While he [Lucas] is timid in nature, he fights splendidly. Is it possible he can surpass even Ness?!"

He mentions him by name...I'd say that gives him a decent chance still, but who can say? I personally thought they'd both make it.
