All the more reason for Claus to join him...
True enough, Claus would be awesome in Brawl, and a ton of potential for Lucas and Claus in Subspace Emissary. That would be an Epic addition. Alongside with Ness, it would be unstoppable (yeah, I threw my little "Ness-has-some-hope-in-Brawl line in there").
Yeah, I only play Fire Emblem modestly at most, I just remember a really long time ago playing it on the NES in English, but I don't remember which one.

Well, I rather liked Ness, even though he was never somebody I used extensively in smash... it is a little bit sad to see his chances of being in Brawl be crushed to molecular amounts, especially since he's been with us for the past two games... however, this was pretty much fated to happen from the very beginning anyway, considering Sakurai confessed that Lucas was going to be in melee over Ness.

I'm thankfully the kind of person who accepts this new change and is willing to move on. Lucas feels nice and familiar to any Ness fan with his similar weapon preferences and appearance, but he's also his own character entirely, with a more in-depth story to him and even a few speaking roles along the way. I'm not saying Ness is a block of wood though, it's just he has more in common with old, silent RPG heroes while Lucas is more like the newer guys... especially with his tearjerking story, most RPGs like emotional stuff now.

I will miss poor Ness dearly, but I think Lucas is a fine evolution of him and I'll be more than happy to main this nice new kid. Besides, I can always play melee again and preserve his memory forever. It's funny how most people have forgotten about that, really! :p

If Ness DOES come back though, I would be a very happy person indeed.... I just have NO idea how they would pull that off though, since Lucas just seems like improvements all around, except for his completely different physical moveset. (Which seems better in a few little cases anyway)

You talk as if he died... he's just back at Onett playing baseball.

I could see some possible meanings from this quote, but I would like to hear vesperview expound on it. How so?
Two characters from Mother 3 and one from Mother 2? I don't think it makes sense.

Well, if they really tried they could pull the "Bring the legendary hero back from the past" crap, but I think it would work out alright if the story was written just right.
Why don't you think it would fit other then your aesthetic viewpoint?

Cause he would really be in the way, the Mother 3 plot and characters wouldn't mix too well with Ness, you would have to play Mother 3 (In case you haven't) to really understand it, unless he returns and someone like Paula or Poo also make it, it could work, but that's never happening.

Yeah, I can see that now, and I've only read a translation of what happens in Mother 3 so I have a very basic understanding of the story within it. I think Ness could fit in the Subspace Emissary with characters otherwise he wouldn't fit with. Fox and Diddy? That seems bogus to me but it works out in the end. But looking at it from the games, it really doesn't make sense, I'll agree.

Heh, pardon me for being a little poetic about the removal of a character I happened to like! You are right though, nobody should really treat being withdrawn from a fighting game as a "death". I suppose he is just now happily sitting at home eating steak, or mach pizza if he's feeling fancy. And maybe whacking a Starman or two. I'm sure he might get a trophy anyway, I dunno.

Anyway, it wouldn't be that hard for Ness to fit in the subspace storyline either... Ness and Lucas are pretty seperate as far as storylines go, but time travel has been done several times in the MOTHER games, so they could always just pull that up somewhere, if they wanted to.

I thought he did that on purpose, actually....
Lucas is a handicapped child... which obviously turns around to state that he is immensely gifted. Seriously, after I heard detailed reports of what constitutes dyslexia and ADD, I wanted both. In the right context, these conditions make you into a genius. I heard over 50% of the computer geeks at MIT have ADHD.

Ah that explains it. As soon as Mother 3 ends up on the Wii shop here I will download it. Can't wait.

And yay for ADHD (not really) (I have it... along with many-a-stories from my childhood... some more interesting than others)

Well, seriously, think about it...

The world's definition of ADD: "A disorder where people cannot focus."
The technical definition of ADD: "A disorder where people have a laser intense focus on one thing resulting in an inability to focus on other things. While focusing on that one thing, they learn very quickly."

Who wouldn't want ADD?

I have something else that has the same effect as ADD but also makes me hard to deal with others socially...

Wait, does that mean it lets you focus on one task at a time or that it only lets you focus on that one thing in the world that you enjoy? Because the latter seems to be the case for me.

Look, Ness might be in, Ness might be out... at this point, I really don't care. All that matters is that Ness is still in 64 and Melee and I'll just play those games again from time to time if he doesn't make it in. If he's in Brawl though, that would be nice, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it.

Ness is already confirmed to be out by Sakurai himself. Unless Sakurai is a liar, Ness has 0% chance of being in based on Sakurai's words. I seriously can't believe people are still debating about this, it has to be a joke.

Sakurai had no reason to take out ness.
Why would Earthbound be one of the only series that gets one representitive? Oh well.

Either way, Lucas looks like an overall improvement, and if they take out ness, I dont think it will make that much of a difference.

I agree that Ness' chances are lowered, but it hasn't been 100% confirmed.
Please stop acting like it's pure fact.

Buzz, can you point me where Panda retranslated? I want to see it.
It's in the Show Me Your News podcast.

Ah yes, the classic "there is no reason" argument... Seriously, that argument holds no weight.
Gotta keep the hope up, no matter how much "in denial" we are.
Why? To set yourselves up for inevitable disappointment?

OK, Mr. Know-It-All. You tell me what the "up until now" is referring to.
