That's a completely different scenario. Regardless of how you want to see it, Luna is Nightmare Moon. So you had a whole two episodes to get to know the character, in fact the whole series begins with an introduction of who she is and how/why she turned evil. How much more did you need to know about her? Aaand despite the fact that she was NMM for the majority of the two episodes, that still counts as screentime for Luna as a character (and as such she had so much more than Matilda did). Aaaaand her whole situation was resolved in a pleasing manner over the course of those two episodes, they didn't just bring up and find the Elements of Harmony in the last five minutes. So, caring about Luna and her little evilness problem is completely understandable and not at all similar to Cranky's.It's like with one of the characters in Season 1 who I did care about even when we didn't know too much about her.
