I know it's late, and most people have already settled on Smile~, and that's a fine name, but I was hoping maybe we could go with "That's four 'ever's! D:" Because that line slew me.

Cupcakes didn't create Pinkamena, it was just a coincidence an Insecure Pinkie Pie was created.

You know, I'm kind of glad for this episode. That way whenever anyone asks me why I don't like Pinkie Pie I have something to point to.

Cranky Doodle was the highlight of this episode to me. A jaded misanthrope loner who hates Pinkie Pie? Finally a pony[-like creature] I can relate to. His constant insulting of Pinkie as well as the callbacks to previous episodes were the highlights of this to me (Rainbow Dash reading Daring Do is pretty cool). Although some of the callbacks were random - what was the point of showing Pinkie with Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake at the beginning? Just to show that they exist? Oh, and the construction paper segments were...interesting. I really want to know if they'll make another appearance in the future.

Still, the episode seems like it had some pacing problems, largely because the plot had such an obvious foregone conclusion that they desperately had to pad out the episode, and the ending came out of nowhere. I didn't really like the song when it was leaked and I don't like it now, especially since it took like 45 minutes to finish.

I knew going into this episode that I wouldn't like it since it was focused on Pinkie Pie but part of me thought it might surprise me in the same way Party of One did by showing a side of her character that made her have more pathos instead of being a cookie-cutter generic wacky character. But I knew it probably wasn't going to, and with a few exceptions this is pretty much exactly what I expected out of a Pinkie Pie episode.

Oh, and Spike wasn't in this episode either. What a load of ****. If they ever make an episode where Pinkie Pie leads an army of owls to banish Spike from Equestria while singing the whole time, I'm dropping the series.

One thing that vexes me about this thread is that I'm never sure if all the Spike hate comes from people legitimately hating Spike and voicing their complaints about him or from people hating me and trying to get on my nerves by insulting Spike.

There's no need for that face, Cranky Kong is Donkey Kong. That being said, I don't really care much for the comparison. I know they're both old and cranky (in more ways than one (that's two, btw)), but they're both cranky for very different reasons.

Maybe that's what Lauren Faust wanted us to do. She said she made the show to be for the children and their parents, so with the lessons-to-be-learned in mind, analyzing how it would be taught and how it would be received would be the parents' part of entertainment.

I just don't care for spike. He seems to be there just to make whatever comment not easily attributable to any other character is sought at the time. So he appears to vacillate wildly between precociously observant, deeply immature, esoterically talented and scathingly judgemental. He has no character outside of necessity. Naturally, the only two episodes about him have been painful to watch, because a character was forced upon him which didn't quite fit, in the case of OWTEW, and only fun once he's developed an actual character trait of insatiable acquisitiveness, in the case of SOME.
