Is this a joke post?

Anyways, Eternal Sunshine's probably my favorite sci-fi movie of the 2000s. It also happens to be one of my favorite romantic dramas of the 2000s as well.
yeah man, I'd be surprised to hear someone hadn't seen it. Saw somewhere online at the turn of the year where it was at the top of a Best Movies of the Decade list
Good to see you know people that've seen it. I have it on DVD and my best friend, sister, mum and cousin all refuse to watch it. The only person I know who has seen it is my ex and that's because I watched it with her, and it's now one of her favourite films.

Also Luigi I don't think it was a planned trilogy, more of a "If this makes 1 billion I'll make another one" sort of plan.

Actually, it was a planned trilogy from the beginning I'm pretty sure. I can't imagine what the plot will be for the sequels though.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0129924/ - Synopsis right there.

LivewiresXe, Saw is little more than gore porn. After the first movie, they just brought in random people to die in super elaborate ways via a relationship to the puzzle. While what I've read may have some conclusion, if the movie does even remotely well, an 8th film will come out. This is not going for plot coherence but for money.

Eternal Sunshine was a great movie and pretty well known. It's definitely Charlie Kaufman's best known work. When it comes to average movie goers who don't appreciate movies on an intellectual bases one bit it would be unknown, but those even slightly interested in film as an art would probably stumble into it. The thing about Kaufman is that he makes really unconventional movies, but they star very famous actors (Nicholson, Cussack, Carrey, Hoffman) and usually surpass their budget (except for Synechdoche, New York). If you enjoyed this movie and haven't already, you should check out Kaufman's other films because they're either just as or even more enjoyable and surreal.

Yep, Charlie Kaufman is an incredible writer.

Synecdoche, New York
is one of my top favorite movies, just one of the greatest most mindblowing things I've ever seen. I feel like I need to warn people though that it is Kaufman's most ambitious and difficult project. There is nothing like it and I had to see it twice before I really appreciated it.

Okay, I lol'ed.

So, I'm considering a couple movies to watch tonight for Halloween.

Eraserhead
The Screaming Skull
Big Trouble in Little China (i dunno why but i always watch this around Halloween)
Land of the Dead (this is on TV, is it any good?)
Land of the Dead was okay. I think Dennis Hopper was in it, and his character was sick.

Watch Walking Dead on AMC though. Not a movie, but it's really good.

I saw Saw 3D on Saturday.

Overall, it was probably my favorite of the series (with the third in second). Probably because this one has the most traps in it and don't really seem to hold back in terms of how much they want to make you cringe. Unfortunately the theater I was in didn't show it in 3D but I imagine with 3D it would've been better than my original viewing. Which I already liked.

Despite them saying it's the final installment, at the end it definitely leaves some room for a possible 8th installment. Jill's death made me sad as well. :( At the end of Saw 6 you'd think she wouldn't be so frightened by him but she was just scared which kind of made me confused. But I was really hoping that some miracle would happen so she wouldn't die. I felt bad for her a little. I'm just GLAD Hoffman died. He's such a ****.

Also, anyone else curious about who the two other masked people in the end were???

I don't know why people give Avatar so much ****. Movies are so much more than "plot"
Well true. The plot was **** but at least it had good characters.

Oh wait, no it didn't it had cliched cardboard cut-outs that just looked nice.

Oh well, at least it was immersive.

Oh wait, no it wasn't because I have a hard time getting immersed if I can't even bring myself to care about what I'm getting immerse in.

So yeah, the movie sucked. It even failed to entertain me, all that it had going for it was the CGI.

many aspects of Avatar were done really well, but if I'm expected to sit and watch for over 2 and a half hours, it should be more than Discovery's Planet Earth

I saw Avatar twice though so I can't really complain too much

I found the film very immersive, even if I didn't care about the characters or the plot. Pandora is one of the most beautifully realized "worlds" I've ever seen. I didn't even see it in 3D the first time and I was taken aback at how homogeneous and natural everything was. I would have preferred less plot and more exploring the planet. I'm no snob though, and can appreciate a simple aesthetic spectacle.

It's not snobby to expect more than some pretty pictures from a 3 hour long movie.

No of course not, but I do think it is a little snobby to refuse to appreciate the film for what it is, or demeaning it because it's primarily a visual experience.

It was way too long though, I'll definitely agree with that.

I'd have to disagree with you Luigitoilet. A film needs more elements than superficial beauty to feel immersive. Not to mention 3 hours was way too long for what it was doing. I agree that exploring would have made the movie better. The plot was cliche and I think they were just trying too hard make it relevant to contemporary war and environmental issues. More of a Star-Warsesque experience was needed. It felt too stationary for such a long movie. Princess Mononoke was shorter yet it was probably twice as complex and well developed and featured more characters and environments, none of which felt like too much.

I'd have to say though, with all the money put into it, it is a watchable 3 hour flick. It can keep my attention, but not keep me immersed, if that makes sense.

I really enjoyed Avatar, the visuals were quite beautiful. The plot may not have been groundbreaking but still satisfying to me. I can see where people are coming from when they pick at it but most of that stuff just didn't bother me. The only thing that bothers me sometimes is how sad some parts are

Anyway, I'm countin the days till the next HP comes out. It'll be a fun friends/family night.

And there is my point! I understand why people didn't like the movie or were disappointed or whatever but it isn't a bad movie. The Avatar haters are really extreme it seems. But there are so many more worse movies constantly coming out. Why hate on Avatar and not Transformers 2 or Prince of Persia?

Eh, Avatar wasn't god-awful. It could've been worse.

Transformers was decent, but the sequel was just awful.

I consider it a bad movie, but only due to the fact that I got bored in the cinema, when I left with my friend after it was done our review was "That was ok" but we never spoke about it till we got to the car where we mentioned all the stupid things that happened in it and how similar it was to Pocahontas, and even though my sister got the film on DVD I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again.

I considered Transformers 2 a terrible movie though.

Also Airgemini I think they're going to cut it off (Harry Potter I mean) at Shell Cottage.

You know what would've been cool for the Avatar people to do instead? Make something like Fantasia, with an original classical music score set to Animated shorts using the quality animation from the movie. The Navi could've been a short part of it. THAT would've been breathtaking.

For the record, I DID enjoy the movie, even though its a little hoaky at times. It really didn't deserve a nomination, however. That made me feel cheated from the previous year when WALL*E and The Dark Knight weren't nominated.

Either way, its a quality flick, especially the flying scenes and the EPIC 15 minute battle at the end. The score for the movie is absolutly Beautifal too.

Also, I think people don't hate on Transformers 2 because it wasn't intended to be a Great movie like Avatar was. It was just supposed to be a money making action movie, and for what its worth I defenetly liked it.

That Skyline film looks good. I can't believe I'd never heard of this film before the trailer, it just came out of nowhere.

If I am going to the movies and paying for a 3D ticket, I need a plot that isn't just rehashes of others. The plot was so unimportant (and extremely bad if you really break stuff down), but I cannot ignore plot for impressive visuals. It's the exact reason I hated Transformers, Saw, and any other movie that relies on a sole gimmick to make up for massive shortcomings.

Tried again to get people to watch Eternal Sunshine with me. Everyone point blank refuses.

The reason why is Jim Carry. My mum doesn't like him so she wont watch it, and everyone else wont watch it because it's him acting normally. Also nobody knows what it's about, they all think it's going to be like the utterly dreadful mess that is Vanilla Sky.

Maybe you can show her this thread? :p Its plenty of arguments here. And I don't get the Jim Carrey haters. Even if I don't watch that many comedy movies I think he is funny.

Got her to watch it.

Well half of it, she didn't like it, but she didn't like Wall-E either so I don't know why I'm surprised. My sister also didn't like it or Wall-E.

Anyway Harry Potter 7 people! Man I'm so excited for this movie, the seventh book was the best one so hype.

What are the chances we'll hear "Hogwarts isn't even in it" and "It was too dark" as common complaints.

Eh, Im excited for HP 7 part 1, but honestly I dont know how they'll get it better than HP6. THAT was my favorite book to be honest. Of course, Im sure the first part will be fantastic, but part 2 I dont think will be as good, even with the epic battle at the end. I didnt like the ending of the book all that much, to be honest.

Also, DOBBY'S BACK! PRAISE JESUS!

Apart from the Epilogue the whole end of HP7 was fantastic. It was incredibly well written and I had absolutely no idea what would happen next.
