If you're going just one day, come on Saturday. It'll be $21 total and I'm estimating about 70 people. I'm going to divide the brackets into qualifier brackets and I'll take top 8 or 16 from each one and make a final bracket.

Really for the con itself it is worth the money. They got a ton of cool stuff going on this year that you definitely want to check out. Don't spend all day playing smash friendlies -_-

There will be an unofficial Melee 2v2 tournament run by NLL on Monday. Unofficial meaning there is no registration fee and that OSC won't provide prize support. However since NLL is awesome they may be contributing to prize support for this event. The goal for me is to let them run it entirely on their own without any of my influence so that they can better serve you with as little assistance as possible on the tournament next month. Here is an update for the 2v2 brawl event right now:

Winner bracket finalist: Englorious Fast Turds
Lower Brackets Semifinalists: Spiked nova vs Box Cutterz (Winner plays englorious)


The setbacks that I have noticed so far and that hold this event back are the following:
1) Some Wiis needed to be unlocked
2) Cluttered area for a 2v2
3) Slow registration process

How each of them are addressed for tomorrow:
1) Wiis are now unlocked, save 1 or 2 which have rarely used characters which we can filter out tomorrow
2) Tomorrow won't be cluttered and will be on the 4th floor in an open area
3) Registration will be easier at the front desk this time since handle's will be requested


Everybody can make it easier by making sure we are all ready to go by 4!

If that was you I was the Kirby on the team that 4 stocked you both games in loser's bracket.

Oh and I won free entry to Otronicon the rest of the weekend so I'll be playing in the brawl 1v1 too. Let's see how you do 1v1 against a melee player (me) who doesn't even play brawl anymore.

62 people entered. Cecil did two seperate brackets and combined them as soon as we got to the top 16, starting a new bracket. I managed to get to the top 16 and then lost to garbanzo and a zss player named caps. I left after wards.

Congrats to RadiX (TonyTheTiger lol) for winning the event! I decided to chip in the prize pool by adding in a 3 Musketeers bar. Ya'll fools missed out. I might sound rather self-serving/arrogant in saying this but.. I think that everything I did not have direct control of sucked for this tourney lol. I really, really appreciate how you guys always come together to help make this go through as painless as possible. I'll list the things that I thought could use improvement tomorrow when I'm setting up at the cinnedome tomorrow.


Speaking of tomorrow. Melee 1v1! In the CINNEDOME! Where it won't be uber crowded at the TVs now since there won't be any teams! This is going to be the most painless tournament imo. I'll have your matches up on the huge, 3 story projector screen and everything. I do need you guys to help me out with something tomorrow, though. They --said-- that they --should-- have memory cards for the cubes/wiis to be used tomorrow. Now after today's little mishap with some of the Wiis not being ready (again I will go into detail tomorrow) I'm a little skeptical and I wan't this to work out if it hits the fan. So basically what I'm asking is to please bring your cube memory cards tomorrow just in case. Melee deems to be making a slight comeback, and with some classic players coming back this might be a really great event!


More to come tomorrow including brackets and everything. A lot of you are really excited for the NLL Feburary tournament, and for good reason. You saw what they have been bringing to the table so far, right?

It was fun though. Thanks to Cecil for running it, we all know how poorly tourneys are run without him. Good job to Tony and the rest of smashboards for placing in all the top spots, just like we told Sleek Media would happen.

I honestly have no idea which is my best character vs certain matchups. Like Snake and ROB.

Heh...I guess I was 5th place, then. That match with Caps was too close, and Sensei and I had trouble solving anything with our perfectly symmetrical violence! Once I got to the top 16, pretty much every fight was one of the best matches of smash I've ever had. The top 16 could have gone any number of ways - it seemed that every set came down to the wire.

Although the matches were fantastic, I gotta say, that tournament was run pretty horribly. Not having all the characters unlocked is one thing, but what was with that band on Saturday? The whole singles tournament was chaos - it would have been much better to get a dedicated space.

So what's up with the Monday Brawl tourney? I'm pickin' up my Wii that day...figure I might as well compete if it looks interesting. Though it's gonna be hard to top yesterday's matches.

I'm up in the control room for Melee 1v1 today. I told you guys I'd bring you guys some info about yesterday so here we go.

A total of 62 players showed up. Here are the final 16:

There were a few things that I need to note to myself and to OSC for future improvements on our next events:

1) The TVs were a little laggy. This may be alleviated with the use of component cables on the Wii systems

2) Some Wiis were still not fully unlocked and tournament-legal

3) The location was good, but the location for the band and the party next door made talking through the microphone impossible to direct.

4) Handles were not provided with registration, adding an hour to the completion time of the tournament.



Right now in the Melee 1v1 tournament there were 33 people who signed up. Fortunately 3 dropped before I generated the brackets so we could keep it under 32 for an easy tournament. Here is the registered list:
