I've compared the images and broken it down a bit for everybody to help distinguish the differences.Something worth remembering is that it does seem that Zairs don't trump someone physically holding the ledge, as shown by that one shot of Yoshi holding the ledge while Link Z-airs (and given how long this update shows it to be, should hit the ledge)
That's splitting hairs at this point. Since the picture clearly shows two characters grabbing old of the ledge, I'm pretty sure that's what he meant.Multiple can refer to "more than one fighter will have tethering".
I'd like to point out in the first picture that Yoshi looks to have a pouch like a kangaroo.I've compared the images and broken it down a bit for everybody to help distinguish the differences.
With the first image, we see 12 "links" (punny) to the hookshot's chain. I cannot tell if the tether is being denied by Yoshi, or if it simply hasn't gone its full length yet.To me it seems insanely long distance, maybe because I remember it being just out of reach oh so many times in Brawl :3. The first picture is too hard to determine if it's being straight denied, or if it's just a flashy screenshot of it coming out. As far as I'm aware the top picture is the first screenshot of the hookshot in air, which I first took it to be it's maximum range. Guess I was proven way wrong.
The second image show's roughly about 36 "links" to the hookshot. That's at least 3 times as many as the first screenshot, which shows the range is pretty large
Also, I'm not sure if you count only one direction when it comes to counting the links on a chain. If you count it both ways, it comes to be 24 "links" for the first screenshot, and 72 "links" for the second (simply double it ^.^).

To be fair, Link needed that buff more than Samus, considering how fast he tends to fall. Besides, we've seen how far the Longshot could travel in Ocarina of Time.Link's tether looks way too long. Not that I mind it.
More importantly, YAY, for new info.
Sorry but I just don't agree with that when thinking about how others would feel.
Just because someone is in a position where they can do whatever they want with no negative consequences doesn't mean they should.
samus not too much, as her recovery, including her tether, were fairly solid in brawl, seriously her grapple beam could latch on the ledge from a pretty long distance in brawl.Link and Samus needed this upgrade, now it makes tether recoveries even better now. :D
But his Up Special IS fixed. ^^ He goes much higher now. Bowser's Up Special is also much better.samus not too much, as her recovery, including her tether, were fairly solid in brawl, seriously her grapple beam could latch on the ledge from a pretty long distance in brawl.
link on the other hand....his clawshot was worthless as a recovery option.
If they'd just fix his up special now....
a small glimpse of it in the nintendo direct didn't look like it honestly went much higher than in brawl. So i'm still not so sure his up special was truly fixed. But his Up Special IS fixed. ^^ He goes much higher now. Bowser's Up Special is also much better.
What they do need to fix are Kratos' recovery. It sucks.
Well, it does go higher. So, if 'fix' means 'get better', then at least it 'got fix'ed'.a small glimpse of it in the nintendo direct didn't look like it honestly went much higher than in brawl. So i'm still not so sure his up special was truly fixed.
It's nice to see so many buffs for Link, period. Good to see that he and Samus actually have a decent shot of getting out of the "Ha Ha, Oh Wow" tier this time around. So, today was the start of Golden Week and we got the first genuinely new update in about two weeks; coincidence? I'm hoping today wasn't a fluke. It's nice to see some tether buffs for Link.
I agree, Link needed it, and Samus does too. For two badasses, they're poorly represented as fighters in Smash Bros. It's nice to see so many buffs for Link, period. It's part of the background.Did we decide what the 'strings' were coming off Samus?
Lucas' tether is going to look ridiculous if he's in the game.

He's going to need a longer snake than what he has in Brawl.Lucas' tether is going to look ridiculous if he's in the game.
HAILY ****!!!Bless this company. Some Smash-related stuff in here too.
Edit: Tournaments and kiosks at Best Buy, yerghhhh.
E3 info? o:Very interesting news all around today both in the PoTD and the E3 info.
http://smashboards.com/threads/e3-2014-super-smash-bros-invitational.353883/Great PoTD. I love that we finally got something new and that it's info on changing mechanics. Link's recovery looks like it's being buffed a lot, which is great!
E3 info? o:
Has anyone thought about how this might possibly affect their grab game? That's some ridiculous ****! LOL! It'll probably be just the "regular length" when you try to grab on the ground, and while that's not very realistic I don't think there will be any other way to balance it out.
Well, as far as I know it isn't confirmed whether or not he'll maintain that meteor showed off in the Nov. 6th 2013 PotD. Sakurai said if it was deemed "too powerful" during play testing they would remove that as an attribute of his dair. Still, Link is looking real promising this time around, and it's about damn time too. I'm hopeful. This is interesting, and it's going to give these characters a huge leg up in the new ledgehog game. Since grabbing the ledge second and forcing off the previous occupant seems to be the winning formula in this game, being able to delay the grab and tether at any point could be very strong, and with seemingly all the special move tethers being gone, that is going to make it quite the exclusive club (only four characters had "zair" tethers in Brawl, and so far none of the new fighters appear to have them). Combine this with his new meteor and with his natural strengths from the projectile game, and are we going to have a Link who is very strong off-stage instead of very weak like in every other smash game?
I always interpreted the Rope Snake to be really stretchy in Mother 3.He's going to need a longer snake than what he has in Brawl.
Just so that everyone gets the message, all information regarding the upcoming E3 2014 event belongs in the thread link that DraginHikari posted. Do NOT turn this thread into an E3 discussion.
