Don't get me wrong I loved the Direct as anyone else, but ultimately it just ruined the hype building for this game, AGAIN.
They showed too much. At least they could've kept all those items in the pics of the press release to themselves.
What was the last time we got a decent pic of the day?
At this point I'm just waiting for the game to come out but I'm really not interested in knowing more about it. The hype is deflating so fast.

See that? THAT is a good update.

Satisfaction guaranteed or your hype lost forever.

I'm happy for Link. His upb was always so sad since he tries so hard.

Because of the new ledge mechanic which allows you to "steal" it from an opponent (after their invincibility ends), would this mean that you can tether a edgehogged ledge, hang around until your opponent runs out of invincibility and then take the ledge yourself? It's pretty cool.

Definitely one of my favourite updates so far. These are the two characters I play as most primarily, and they just got a whole lot sexier. Also, while I know it's the not the first we've seen of it, the Grapple Beam remains blue! Much better than the shoddy pale colour it was in Other M.

Neato! That's actually really cool. So it's pretty much means both can hang, but whoever gets the ledge (after pulling in your tether) is determined by how long they've both been in the air, as well as damage percent.

He doesn't mention if multiple fighters can latch on at the same time. Still, never doubted tether recoveries was gone, but I'm also glad it looks even better!

Hype train on stand-by.

Decent update. Needed recovery buffs for both characters and the tethers receiving buffs themselves is a nice treat. Should also help Lucas if he's back.

Maybe in SSB4 I won't be rage quit after being koed so many times on a low percentage Link.

Hopefully tetherable(?) ledges are improved.

I wonder what kind of Pills Lucas used on his snake to make it grow longer. I've heard they dont work.

...He literally says multiple fighters can latch on. And by his context clues, I don't think he's referring to new players who don't know what tethering is.

Plus the picture shows TWO fighters latching on at the same time.

Also, just want to point out that all the ledge game updates are pointing to a more edgeguard-centric metagame, as opposed to an edgehog-centric metagame.

Which I approve of wholeheartedly. It allows those recovering to have an easier time getting back, and also ensures that the edgeguarders have to really work for it.

I never liked edgehogging as a tactic, anyway. :p

I'm pretty sure that's the case. All I'm saying is it still isn't mentioned, and his pictures are often deceiving. I'm sure both can latch on at the same time, but whoever creeps up to the edge will obtain the grab.

This is interesting, and it's going to give these characters a huge leg up in the new ledgehog game. Since grabbing the ledge second and forcing off the previous occupant seems to be the winning formula in this game, being able to delay the grab and tether at any point could be very strong, and with seemingly all the special move tethers being gone, that is going to make it quite the exclusive club (only four characters had "zair" tethers in Brawl, and so far none of the new fighters appear to have them). Combine this with his new meteor and with his natural strengths from the projectile game, and are we going to have a Link who is very strong off-stage instead of very weak like in every other smash game?

I can see Samus sliding up to the ledge as well as Link, except Link jumps and immediately attacks Samus breaking her tether (assuming she is vulnerable at this point) and doing another quick tether-grab ftw. Scenarios like that.

Pic of the day. Tether recovery? Yes, you can! And from even longer range than before. Multiple fighters can latch on--who actually grabs hold is determined by the same rules as the standard ledge grab.
He literally says it right there, in the caption, that multiple people can tether onto a ledge at the same time. Watchu talkin' 'bout boy?

Nowhere does it say "at the same time", girl. Anyways, I'm positive it is at the same time. Moving on?

No point in saying "multiple" if only one can grab the ledge at a time. Just saying. :awesome:

ANYWAY.

This leaves me wondering, what happens to the second tether character when the first one pulls themselves to the edge?

Multiple can refer to "more than one fighter will have tethering".

1 - Picture Brawl Lucas
2 - Mentally translate his model to an HD setting
3 - ???
4 - Finish the rest of your Cheetos (optional)
5 - Success!
I was going to tell him to open his squinty emote eyes.

I think I'll die a little on the inside if Toon Link and Lucas still have their little baby tethers.
I want TL to have his grappling hook.

I'm imagining (and hoping) that the tether loser will be in free fall but not in a helpless state.

Something worth remembering is that it does seem that Zairs don't trump someone physically holding the ledge, as shown by that one shot of Yoshi holding the ledge while Link Z-airs (and given how long this update shows it to be, should hit the ledge)

Yes, that may be true. However, the quote immediately refers to the multiple as if they were competing for the edge. Which implies it's happening at the same time.

Also, the quote states that "who actually grabs hold is determined by the same rules as the standard ledge grab." Which probably means that whoever has more air time and damage will actually be pulled up first, regardless of who tethered first.

Dude, edgegaurding is going to be a spectacle in and of itself!

You lost me at "1". Numbers? Ain't nobody got time for that! ¦(

But yeah, getting back to it, nice to see the multiple tether ledgegrabs becoming an official thing.

I can't recall if I'd seen a 3DS pic with Toon Link using a hookshot or not, it may have been his boomerang. I can't remember. However, the grappling hook would be money. This needs to happen. Along with stealing another player's item.

I still dream about the Deku Leaf 'til this day

Hey am I wrong or we haven't seen the boomerang in Toon Link's moveset? The Deku Leaf could be interesting as a substitute, creating little tornadoes like the Ore Club maybe. At least he would be a little Luigi-fied.

No, it hasn't been shown. For a split second, I thought it had been replaced by the Gust Bellows when I saw that pic of the day, before I remembered that the Gust Bellows are from Skyward Sword. I hope he's less of a clone this time, too.

looks like edge wars will be more fun this time around. One thing me an my friends use to love doing in brawl was pick one ledge on a given stage and have everyone fight to hold it. They were always the quickest most chaotic matches and a blast to play at that.

Technically Toon Link got an item called the Gust Jar in the Minish Cap, so it wasn't too much of a stretch to think that was the case. Unfortunately it seems this is specifically the Wind Waker version of Link (hence the Wind Waker taunt/victory poses) so that doesn't seem likely.

I'm actually curious why Toon Link's Tether wasn't shown here. If he traded it in for the Grappling Hook I think I'd hyperventilate.

While I'm not a Link or Samus main by any means, but I always felt bad for them.

It is so nice to see these characters get a buff. I said it before, but this game is looking very interesting. <3
