Meta Knight Q&A Thread

So the name pretty much says it all. To make this short, I've noticed that alot of the threads in these boards consist of little simple questions that can be answered with a quick and simple answer.

Now to stop the flow of all that nonsense, if you have a quick question about the Knight feel free to ask here instead of posting a thread about it. I, along with a number of other people around here, can help you out. It helps clear the boards out for more advanced MK discussions to help all of us get better. :)

So if you have quick questions over
Moves
Finishers
Approaches
Follow ups
Defenses
Edgeguarding
Combos
Matchups
Or other random ****

Ask away... :)
i would like to know approaches for the meta counters... i have trouble knowing how to approaching them and not getting ***** >_<

how can i really be defensive with meta knight!! he was made for speed

i need sum combos best i know are sum tilt combos and the combos from the affinity video :dizzy:

i would like to know the new match ups since i cant rly find a good guide one anywhere thats now out dated

Meta Knight has 0 counters.
It doesn't matter if he was made for speed if you are mindlessly charging at someone who knows how to read. Meta Knight has an option for virtually everything. He can play defensive. Watch some top MKs.

I want to know why he thinks that. (Not that I agree or disagree with him, but it's always interesting to hear M2K's thoughts.)

He said it's because MK can't land a kill on Wario, and Wario can land a kill on MK reaaaally early.

I mean it would make sense if Wario can get in on MK that he'd have the advantage. He can't really be gimped if he's safe, he kills earlier, he punishes about as hard, and he doesn't ever ****ing die lol.

It's just really hard to get in on MK, but I suppose if you can make it boil down to "1 read = punish" (the only problem would be the Wario executing his punish correctly, which is really difficult because MKs walls are hard to punish even if you know how he's gonna do it), I could honestly see Wario having the advantage.

Now to be fair there aren't any Wario's who are nearly as skilled as M2K (well Gluttony seems really smart, but idk I'd like to see him play M2K first), but at bio he was having trouble with Sky's Wario (Sky is ranked like... 4th or 6th in Norcal, and he's pretty new to playing Wario), and he wasn't playing the matchup badly.

Gluttony vs M2K would be a really interesting match to watch. I don't know what it is, but there is something different about the way Gluttony moves around in the air. Maybe I am just being silly.

^More like best player in the world :p

...And that Diddy beats MK because MK can't dash grab Diddy while Diddy has a banana in front of him...
I thought it was because MK can't approach while Diddy has a banana in hand, and a banana in front of him, not because he can't dash grab him?

There's a difference.

And, anyways, I'm more willing to take M2Ks word on the top level metagame than anyone else, considering he knows it better than anyone >_>

wtf r u talking about? first m2k is mega biased about diddy, and probably still trips on bananas laying right in front him.

And idk what u mean by top lvl metagame, im guessing u mean mks metagame. If ur talking in reference to matchups, then ur just being funny.

Like is this post trolling or something, like LOL

i need to know everything about the ike match up.
what to do what not to do anything.
Don't be obvious with your approaches, because he's going to retreating Fair you.

Nado ***** him, and if you get him in the air there's almost nothing he can do. It's like fighting Snake in the air, just watch out for his Dair because it stays out for a good while. His main kill moves are going to be Bair, Uair, and Usmash and sometimes jab and fair. If he back throws you, DI up because he's going to follow with a buffered dash attack.

That's pretty much all I've got right now.

I guess I'm supposed to post questions here, I'm just worried I won't be able to find it! :D

I'm trying to learn MK (late start) for someone who tends to play Ike/ROB/Zelda/GW/Pit (in that order). But I find MK is very hard to use in the air for me. With my other guys being great in the air. I haven't really figured out the best way to use his foward B, and his down B always feels like a free hit to the other player. I mostly 1v1. I have a lot of problem with Olimar, Diddy, etc, the short characters, when I knock them up in the air, I can almost never hit them with u-air attacks, as MK kind of floats higher and higher with each attack, as they are obviously falling lower. So I fly up past them and give them a chance to get beneath me. On the ground I can be very aggresive with him, my problems come in the air. When do is it best to use U-air and D-air attacks? They have such an odd range.

Forward B is a recovery move. It sucks as an offensive move because of the poor risk/reward ratio. It does barely any damage, it only has good KB at the last hit (which you will not land very often because this move is very easy to SDI out of), and the landing lag is horrendous if you don't auto cancel it.

Down B is also a recovery move. It sucks as an offensive move because of the poor risk/reward ratio. It has too much end lag, and the knock back is next to worthless.

When you knock them in the air, you are probably spamming jumps and aerials while they easily air dodge past it. You need to be patient and watch what they do. If you know they will air dodge, wait for it, then fall with them and hit them with a uair/nair or whatever.

What is the "omnigay"?
The omnigay involves the use of MK's up throw and an item interrupting MK during the apex of his u throw (Such as Snake's C4, and grenades). If MK has a port advantage, the person that MK grabbed will die at the top of the ceiling and MK will be safe.

It sounds like he just has tap jump on and is getting to hasty going after them in the air

Probably, lol. I have tap jump on though, and I never had that problem
Yeah, but you've been playing that way and MK for a while. He hasn't from the way it sounds.

about the omnigay does snake have to drop the grenade and pick it up or can it still work if he's cooking it
Doesn't matter, you just have to time when the nade goes off.

Mew2King vs DSF

DSF got pretty close

On another note..

How do I fight Sheik??
LOL Kaffei, you sure need help with a lot of match ups :p

I play one Sheik that's good around here. Don't get grabbed because it's a free kill if they pull off the DACUS.

Get in her face and fair a lot, poking at her with tilts and getting grabs are mostly what I do. I also have good luck pulling of Tear Bear Fsmash at the ledge too, so you can try that. And Nado is always good, but she's lite so you gotta pull off good Nados.

Doesn't Snake have to drop and regrab the grenade for Omnigay to work? I'm pretty sure he just drops it if you grab him when he first pulls it out.

Also, is Metaknight dying via Omnigay a result of controller ports? I tend to get unlucky in this respect. ;P
