Good Day Sirs. reguardless of whether or not you know who i am.. this post is being written by ChozenOne. A melee and brawl veteran that [during one point or another] has made his stamp on our community. It has recently come to my attention that since the start of brawl [i would say roughly 6 months after its realease] the game has taken a turn for the worse and what used to be a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.. has turned into one driven by anger and animosity. I recently was speaking with a smasher that has played a significant role in the community since before the massive swarm to SmashBoards.com, and what i heard was quite disturbing.

It seems that very recently ChiboSempi held a very poorly run tournament that broke out in a riot and there were almost fights breaking out. What Chibo did with his poor tournament organizational skills was horrid and he should never run any events ever again.. but our community has NEVER had such outbreaks in the past. It seems like the world of smash has become a powderkeg.. just waiting to ignite and destroy the game. Playful banter is one thing.. trash talk is another.

Threats are entirely something else.

During the "melee days" tempers never ran this high, and players would come to events for the experience and comradery [no homo] of each other's company. Happenings like this do not nessesary deterr the players that win money from events.. but the players that go to have a good time will probably cease to travel for tourneys.. and this will cause the pots to lessen.. and this will cause the "big name" players to not travel.. and this will cause tourney organizers to not want to hold large events.

In turn this will cause the game to cease being a grassroots community.

This will cause competative smash to end. This sounds like i am saying the sky is falling.. but ask yourself.. has anything close to the happening @ Chibo's tourney happened.. EVER?

Something needs to be done.

-MLG needs to pick up competative smash instead of just buying out smashboards.com

-Melee needs to come back as a competative game

-We need to make a circuit that works

-There needs to be a reliable ranking system

Something needs to be done if we want Smash to continue its time as a competative game.

Good Day Sirs.

1 Person's point of view =/= the entire smash scene, neither does 1 tournament.

Didn't C3 ECRC last December run really good?!

I can't say much about the whole riot thing since I had already left......might of been exaggerate, might of not.

The issue isn't as clear as just the fact that Brawl or Melee or whatever has caused this.. its the fact that this could ever even happen.

-No i did not get into a fist fight w/ Jon.

-I don't do her homework for her anymore.

-DM.. duel me.

Anyways.. Something needs to be done. That is ALL im saying. Also.. most of the money from these events comes from random baddies entering.. that accounts for MOST of the pot money.. and why would any of them want to travel to a tourney if there are fights and mob scenes.

This sort of thing

A- never would have happened during melee

B- would have been shrugged off during the melee days b/c randoms wouldn't be hosting major tourneys

C- is insignificant if MLG picks up Brawl.. b/c that would mean a large tourney circuit.. and one of a dozen is trouble some.. when one of the ONLY large tourneys ****s up.. it really makes a large mark.

There was a riot at CoT4?

loloololololololooololololololol step your **** up chibo!

EDIT: Upon reflection, said outbreak probably wouldn't have happened if there were 3 or 4 AK's.

it did!! 100 entrants, 16 televisions, completed brackets for teams and singles in around 12 hours. everything was prepared for and under control. whoever ran that tourney deserves a round of applause

3 or 4 AK's.

or .Com's (hates getting the short end of the stick) I AM HUSKIEZ> :p

Chibo isn't going to stop getting bashed for a while so I will just stop wasting time with these dumb posts.
Not saying melee is dead or anything, but let brawl have it's chance. No matter how much YOU may dislike it there are probably 2 peoeple to you that do like it.

the community at the C3 tourney was amazing for these reasons

A. No one caused any trouble
B. Most people actually sought out and played their matches instead of taking up the TVs
C. Good TO's

C3 was an amazing tournament. Tourney started at about 1:30pm, and was over at 12am. About 10.5 hours. With 16 setups.

Triple the setups (48), and triple the entrants (300) should mean the time would stay about the same (to be fair, lets say 12 hours)

Or at very worst, keep the 16 setups, and triple the entrants, so time also gets tripled (between 30-35 hours)

At any rate, I think you all understand my point. We have a great community in MD/VA fo' sure, for the most part. I trust most of the smashers in MD/VA, and our tournaments always have good turnouts and are fun.

lots of people from melee were involved with this ... so its not brawl's fault and i didn't hear anything about fights, except when two people got mad at each other one of which was a melee vet... idk who the other guy was, but it was over someone stepping on a cord

ROFL cactuar vs eazy would've been the fight of a century

eazy would've come over and tried to do some stupid double fair ****, dancing blade nonsense that doesn't combo

tuar would've waveshined him all the way back to NJ

Lol. That whole thing was because two people were like dancing on top of a power cord. They ended up unplugging two tournament matches, one of which was mine. Eazy was just standing there yelling "Who's gettin mad?!? Who's mad?!?", so I told him to go stand somewhere else, which he decided was me being "disrespectful" and started yelling at me. Then he decided it would be a good idea to stand directly behind me while I was trying to play, so we ended up in face off of sorts, which was more like us facing each other, with a crowd of people telling Eazy to back off.

The point of all this? I don't really blame Eazy and we talked briefly afterwards. Tension was never like this at any Melee tournament I've ever been to. It really bothered me how quickly something so trivial could escalate. I am an incredibly laid back individual, and even in the heat of the moment, I was still pretty calm about the whole thing, but I could definitely feel a difference in my mentality being carried over from playing Brawl. Everything about how competitive play in Brawl works was bothering me.

Right before my match was cut off, I was playing Peach vs Samus, and all the Samus player was doing was spamming missiles and Zairing me when I got close. Incredibly frustrating, but I'm not really complaining about it as that is how Samus is playing in Brawl I suppose. I don't understand why anyone would want to play like that, and why anyone would even want to play Brawl as the majority of the matchups in the game are somewhat similar to that.

I played Peach throughout the entire pool, and all I did was float fair people, with occasional float dair combos. I spammed the same thing over and over the entire time, and I did very well. Playing the actual game was not fun at all. The gameplay itself was terrible and put me on edge because of how stupid I found most of the character strategies, regardless of how pretty or smoothly executed they were. The only fun I had was pointing out how many times I was slapping people and doing weird stuff on Jungle Japes.

In essence Cactuar....it is dancing. It's about the minimal of dancing as dancing can get. It was deemed the "money-back" dance. So yes...it was dancing. However...the genre of "hardcore" or "gangsta" rap...which in general pisses me off....considers two-steppin' to not be dancing. It is...it's just so effortless that ANYONE can do it.

gotta keep in mind that with the new smash. it brings in younger keets vs melee which had abunch of cool keets like me :) not saying melee had alot of old people its just from my understanding and being in the community for over 6 years that most tournaments ive been there a majority of the players are ages 18-25 for melee. where brawl has keets ages between 13 - 24. I've only been to a few but each time I see more younger keets than those in my age group. THis is just from what I see from experience I could be wrong but young keets tend to be more immature than the older crowd. Even at nightclubs. young crowds 18-21 fight over silly girls or guys w/e over something small. where the clubs that are 21+ has less fights over something silly. not saying that it doesnt but the %.

i also would like to point out that if you play brawl competitively it will be alot of frustration due to the way strategies work with characters. I dont get annoyed that easily but this game gets on my nerves when I play. i just dont like chain grabs

FC was the best! Thats where everyone is united and we all chilled, smashed, dodgeball, and just had a goot time. I gotta thank the Kishes

im sorry but don't lump chibo's with the ECRC at the moment. I can promise you that the rest of the ECRC events will run smoother than butter, chibo didn't get enough help for this event and he knows it. Every future ecrc event will have MANY TO's helping and making sure it runs d@mn good
