For me it's the sanity factor. Sure I hang out with friends and whatnot, but with different schedules and busy lives it's hard. So I find that the fifteen minutes to half hour between class can be easily spent on smashboards just to check quick threads such as You Laugh You Lose or the Melee social thread.
So it's not so much a matter of spamming, but just giving my brain a much needed break during the free time alotted.
Thank you for your concern (or inherent lack-there-of), so to help you with your worries I only have this to say:

Side note: my gf just got out of the shower and saw your post. She always (and I mean ALWAYS) says "Your face". You made her laugh pretty hard dude. And for that I thank you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to run

It's not about punching dirt.
Minecraft is considered good because it's very well-designed and thought-out, even though it's still in the early stages of development. It's gotten wildly popular in the past month or so around the world. More than half a million people have paid for it, myself included. It's a lot of fun building a base, crafting tools, weapons, and armor, exploring dark tunnels and caves, killing monsters, growing trees and crops, and creating structures out of whatever you can find. If you just "don't get it," do some research, or play the free version.
