Marth Back Room Application Thread

ATTENTION MARTH BROOMERS!

It has been brought to my attention by several people that it is relatively crowded back here for a back room. Indeed, we have almost half of the amount of members in the REGULAR SBR, and it discourages many people from posting here, reading here, or taking this place seriously. Furthermore, a lot of knowledge back here gets lost in all the spam and clutter.

At first, my reasoning was that having more people back here that have proven themselves to know what they are talking about and not troll would be better, because anyone can randomly stumble upon something which helps the metagame. However, things are far from the way they used to be. The MBR doesn't really undertake anymore projects, as Brawl isn't quite a baby anymore. Random discoveries can be posted on the boards. Many people back here are completely inactive, never even look here, or do not even main, or play Marth. We also have a Marth General Discussion on the boards, so we no longer need this place to have fun amongst ourselves.

To potentially increase the worthwhile contributions back here, and keep the worthwhile contributions from being buried, I will be purging and recreating the MBR. There will be an application process to get back into the MBR. In fact, it will be the same application process I have been using through PMs, except now it will be public. Thank you all for your time, effort, and contributions to the MBR.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the MBR, please submit the application on this thread, or send a PM to me (which can be done by clicking on my name, and then sending me a private message).

You must submit to me evidence of your worth as a top level Marth brain. I will take evidence in three forms.

A) Post links to tournament result pages either here or on AllisBrawl, of tournaments that you participated in as Marth. Generally, placing in the top 4th of the participants is more highly favored. Offline tournaments are preferred, but not mandatory. Larger tournaments are obviously weighted more heavily in your favor. Links to tournaments that you did poorly in will not count against you, and can be used as evidence to reinforce your activity. Even I have bad days, lots of them.

B) Please post links to any articles online in the form of a post, blog, or in some other form anywhere on the internet that have been written by you, and relate to Marth's gameplay. The article does not necessarily have to be directly about Marth, but frequently using Marth as an example is still counted, if your example is sound. Obviously, articles you write here on the Marth boards about Marth will count, and are more heavily weighted in your favor. The article does not have to be written either before or after this thread was created, any time it was written will do. Proper spelling and grammar will count in your favor, although mediocre spelling and grammar will not count against you.

C) Please post links to videos showing footage of you playing as Marth against any opponent. Tournament videos will be weighted the best, and money matches will be weighted highly as well. Playing against high ranked opponents will also count more in your favor. Obviously, the most important factor is your actual performance in the match, so don't think that posting up a video of you acting like a noob against Mew2King in a tournament match is going to help any. It is preferred that the video be of offline play, though it is not mandatory. Whether you win or lose the match is irrelevant, as you may be playing a very excellent match of smash against an opponent who is simply as excellent or more so than you, and you happen to lose a particular match that you played relatively well in.

When applying, you should submit as much evidence as possible. You do not need all three, or even two forms of evidence, but obviously the more evidence you do submit, the greater your chances of getting admitted. Submitting multiple videos and results pages is fine, as is submitting only a single article. No application is too small or too big. Your application does not have to be in a particular format, however it should contain evidence as requested and be fairly simple to follow for ease of grading.

There is no penalty for applying, and you can apply once a week, so don't hesitate in applying, even if you think I will be a harsh judge. If you link a video, I may add a brief critique, though this is not always going to be the case. Whether you are accepted or rejected on an application, I will reply to you, though if I have not done so within an entire week, it is likely that either I have made an error, something malfunctions, or I merely missed your particular application, and you should resend it.

Please do not spam this thread, as I will need to read through it frequently to read applications, and I will heavily pressure moderators to infract spammers on this thread, and I will be reporting all spamming and trolling here. Also, please do not make posts that say why you aren't applying, etc. If you don't want to apply, okay. I'll know this by the absense of your application.

Don't disband the group at least. Through all the random crap and spam in that place, there was some good discussion. It'd be nice to have some of it for reference. Like those 10 page critiques of videos of Kadaj, Shaya, etc.

Anyways, despite the constant complaints people had about how MBR is really aim now, no sense in not applying and being left out on useful info. I just hope you have a plan for what to actually do in there.

I've been ignoring MBR a lot largely for the fact that I felt there was too many people in there. It was essentially the most active users on the marth board but just talking about different stuff than we are here. While there were some inactive users like 3xswords and fishkeepertimmay etc, I feel the size should be limited this go around and I'm glad you're doing this pierce.

BTW: I recommend the apps just go here so people other than Pierce can have a say on the matter. It'll also keep the thread bumped cus I don't think I should sticky it.

Oh, 9001 times THIS. I just forgot to say that I prefer stuff here in the OP for this reason.

Also, I will be comprising a panel once I have enough members, so that I won't be reviewing apps and making all the shots myself. I'm a leader, but I don't like to powerhog, and this isn't really about that.

EDIT: Actually, all considering, I've invited Neo and MikeHaze back for obvious reasons. I've also invited Shaya because he's made invaluable contributions to our databases, and been extremely productive for his entire duration back there, and I've invited Steel back, because of his activity both back there and here in the boards. If anything good gets posted here that me, Neo, or Mike is likely to overlook, Steel is amazing and will snatch it. Plus he's well agreed to be the leader of the Marth boards.

All other members must apply normally.

Here's my application:

A.) As you probably know, I haven't been to a legit tourney yet. Besides a few friends I play offline with (such as the TL you saw in the vid), all my experience comes from wi-fi and training mode. That being said, I don't think it's really held me back that much. I have a ton of matchup experience against most characters, have strong control over my character, and am a pretty good player overall. I don't play in online tournaments, though I used to. I pretty much stick to allisbrawl ladder and friendlies over AIM now. If it helps, here is the page for some of my older online tourneys: http://allisbrawl.com/medals.aspx?id=14050. I actually do quite well in the online ladder, though. My win percentage is pretty much always over 70% and I'm usually ranked pretty well. Right now I'm 29th, but the ladder only started a few days ago. None of this means too much, but in terms of my results against live competition, it's the best I can show as of now.

Besides all that, I was one of the most frequent contributors to the MBR before. I presented a lot of ideas and responded to most ideas that others brought in. I'm open minded and am always willing to listen to opinions and try new things. I also talk to most Marths on AIM pretty regularly and I now play Neo and Kadaj rather regularly on wi-fi and am learning a ton from them.

Hopefully I can get back in, as I realy liked being in there

one thing is i'd love to discuss matchups without having less knowledgable posts argue petty points, and analyze high level marth videos. for example, i myself have watched mikehaze vs lain at evo at least 10 times to understand their choices and matchups and why lain won, but i usually don't discuss it with anyone.

I think that was one of the most useful things we did but we stopped after 3 of them.

And imo I think MBR, regardless of who gets in should start posting stuff on the boards after it's done being discussed. So much stuff in there(even the small stuff like mix-ups talked about) were talked about and lost in the archives of the place. For stuff like video analysis, it wouldn't be hard to make a thread for that.

Well, times when I've tried to start discussion, in recent times, has had maybe a 100% success rate of Steel throwing in a troll one-liner that makes me wonder why he even bothers being in the MBR.

I love doing what you've done, because I think both you and I know why he lost to dedede; but if I was to start the discussion steel would probably be like 'you act like lain was playing the match up properly, lololololol'. He really is a menace to what that place used to be.

I can vouch for MintyFlesh for MBR material (hope this isn't spam to you Pierce). He's pretty much ranked 7th? in the NY PR. He isn't the greatest in singles (lol) I think recent LI tourney he got like 13/65 even with NJ in it, but he does far better in doubles and more dominant player or should say he does most of the team work lol. But yeah Minty's def MBR material, his marth just too blazing secksay.
