Low confidence = bad results.

You guys need to think postively...

Maybe that's the secret too getting higher placements, for some of you...

lol thanks.

yea i mean idk why we pretended that friendly was some hard core shizzz. like my friend mintyflesh whose a marth main always uses his upb for the inv frames or as his little panic button, so i got my marth slightly like his, so i tried testing out against d3's with mario's upb but i think mario's upb inv frames is like frame 3 or something, so you have to be a step faster.

i was whiffing it alot more than i thought though lol, l'm def not using it at lower %s though. Too risky. glad y'all liked it.

They work hand in hand. But I mean...you still need confidence first before seeing the results, never heard of someone doing good with low confidence.

Mario is amazing people. Realize it :).

I'm confident that one day, we'll be sweeping low tiers once we actually learn to play this character.

Mario in my opinion is better than:
Pokemon Trainer (due to Ivysaur and Charizard being terrible), Samus, Jigglypuff, Fox, Sonic, Bowser, Ness, Yoshi, Lucas, Ike, Zelda, Link, Captain Falcon, Ganondorf.

Where I would place Mario, he would be C-tier, right under Wolf and Luigi, and right above the Pokemon Trainer, Samus, Jigglypuff, Fox. Sheik is absent from this listing as I consider her B-tier material.

Everyone else I mentioned actually is low tier (with Charizard and Ivysaur of the Pokemon Trainer being low tier, but held up by Squirtle, who is above average in general except at recovery).

I will stress again though, Mario is a very difficult character to use. He has the tools to pressure, do damage quickly, and set up KOs effectively. He needs a REALLY technical and observant player to be played properly, since he's much less "abuseable" than most characters.

It's not necessarily low confidence. Vato knows where he stands and is probably as (if not more) confident with himself than a lot of players here would be when entering a tournament.

It's more of a facade of incapability to prevent excessive expectations and a deflated ego after a humbling defeat if that time comes. :lick:

i mean i go into every tournament confident that im going to come out with a couple wins,i'm just not satisfied not getting top 8 =/ so i say alot of **** that makes me seem like i am confident-less.

You should be confident no matter what. Nuff said.
+10truth

Absolutely right...Your not going to get anywhere going into a match feeling as if you've already lost.

[EDIT]Getting top 8 constantly is not that bad...Just work on those shady match-ups more..

I have to say, the only part I disagree with is Wolf. He really is not good, and has way too many 'get *****' matchups. I can easily see Mario being better than him.

Oh, and on the confidence thing... I don't know what I am... I never expect to make top 8 (though it has happened on rare occasions), but I manage to stay confident in matches for the most part... weird thing is, I do really well against good players, but as soon as I face scrubs, I fall apart. How does that work?

Wolf does do a lot worse against Sheik and Falco I guess, and I think he gets ledge infinited by DDD?

However I think he does better against Snake, Wario (unless he gets chaingrabbed here too), ZSS, and G&W. With emphasis being put on Snake, who is number 2 on the list.

Wario gimps Wolf pretty hard, and due to his weight he is easily comboed by a lot of the cast (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Kirby, MK, ZSS, Wario, Pika, etc.).

He has a simply put, horrible recovery. I mean, it's better than Link and Ganon... but that's about it...
If he ever has to use his UpB, he is screwed, and his side-B isn't much better.
He has a fair amount of ending lag on a lot of his moves.

Kirby does some really nasty things to Wolf as well (several 0 to 60-80% comboes, inhale break-footstools, which are really easy to land on him, easily gimped.).

Pika CGs him to hell. Pit CGs him. ZSS CGs him (and I believe she has the same Dsmash infinite on him that she does on Fox, though I could be wrong.). Lucario CGs him. Wario does in fact CG him. In fact, I believe it's a 0-death. I forget if Yoshi does or not.

Link also does better than most vs Snake, but that's not enough to bring him up from low tier.

The only notable character he does visibly better than us against is Diddy IMO (maybe I'm not seeing it, but I see Mario vs Snake as better than Wolf vs Snake. I have yet to see the only Wolf mains I know dispel that impression, though to be fair, both are only decent.), and we don't have a bad MU there either.

Well, that explains why Pierce calls Wolf "the worst decent character".

I don't think Snake does anything that ***** Wolf though, and Wolf can actually kill Snake (D-smash can kill him at like 125% or something) and has an easier time setting up a gimp (with D-throw), which is why I know Wolf does better against Snake.

Mario I think in the highest level play loses to Snake 6/4 at best, but learning the matchup requires so much experience that only a few Mario players seem to be able to hold themselves up against good Snakes. I'm not one of them.

Wolf on the other hand...I would be arguing he goes even with Snake.

Possibly. I dunno... I haven't had too much trouble vs Snake. I actually find it easier (and more fun) to play with Mario than with Kirby, but that may just be due to my general playstyle.

That being said, it does sound like Wolf can do decently against Snake with that then.

Didn't know Pierce called him that, but I can see why XD

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
to fight good snake takes SO MUCH PATIENCE esp on fighting him for learning curve.

you HAVE to be memorize his range, his positioning, frames, memorization etc.

Dair > on his shield > SAFE if he doesnt have a nade in his hand

Quick question: How many of you use FLUDD to cancel momentum from lava/push them back into it on Norfair/Brinstar or in teams to cancel a teammate's attack's knockback for combos (or even stuff like MK Uthrow>Fludd offstage, putting them in tumbling animation.).

Also, am I being clear, or was that just a confusing post?

Maybe, but if you're in a team situation, just FLUDD above him and just the victim dies. Seems more useful to me.

For ROB though, I think it would work, unless he too gets an 'invisible floor' like Kirby and MK do.

And yeah, it is situational, but so is cape ****, but despite the huge deal that was for a while, I never hear about this. Fludd wants some love too

They act/react faster than most, and I'd imagine try to stay a few steps ahead, mentally speaking.

Boss makes really good use of fastfalling and platform dropping as far as I can tell. Aside from having insane reaction time and intimate knowledge of buffering.

One thing that I don't see alot of Marios do...Dair, Uair and Bair end fast enough when you SH them that you can actually fastfall them once they've finished (while still aerial from the shorthop) and they'll land laglessly as if you normally did your SHUair, SHDair, or SHBair...except you'll have much more time to react if they happen to shield your attack, if you land your attack and wish to followup, or need to space properly.

If you watch their vids closely (Boss and Famous), you can see them do this when they play each other.

The timing for the fastfall varies between aerials since you need to fastfall them the second that the attack ends for the lag to be cancelled.

Bair, you can fastfall nearly the instant it comes out. As you prolly know, Bair ends extremely fast.

Uair, you must wait until his left leg is perpendicular to the ground before you fastfall. Anytime earlier risks getting the lag from a premature fastfall...something a great deal more punishable.

Dair's timing is a little easier to follow. The attack ends the minute that his arms open up after the spin. This is pariticularly helpful if you want to mix up your shield pressure. I'll usually Dair a shield, and fastfall behind them where I'm close enough to grab them before they can react.

You have to be in that mood to properly play Mario imo.

If you get frustrated with him, you will lose, since Mario requires precise reaction to be successful. You literally have to feel like you can go with the flow, since that seems to be the only way you'll find ways to properly react to the situation.

someone test this out..on bf pivot grab someone(grabing them where you back is away from the stage) really close to the edge and dthrow them...i was testing this in training mode and it appears that your oponent is sent lower than usual. This might be useful at mid perecnts if this is legit.

Edit: I test this on wolf at 46%, dthrow is consecutive hit followed by uptilt, need to test this on more characters.

Edit2:dthrow>upsmash/ dthrow>upair ..consecutive hit..lmao

Edit3: This also works on platform edges
