The Japanese have actually known about this trick for quite some time Vato. It's also a little easier to do with Luigi due to his low traction.

I don't mean to ruin your parade though, it is useful. Just too situational.

Yeah i saw a luigi video showcaseing some combos awhile back and luigi had done this but, i didn't think it was possible with mario.I just think it's interesting that it actually combo's.

I might change my character icon again soon. The break I took has loosened me up quite a bit, although I still get a little irked by how non-noob friendly Mario is. I just need to first prove to myself that my Mario is a reasonable threat against good players (like DSF, Nezumi, SomeRandomKid, TonyGuacamole).

And I need to actually find tournaments. =(

Mario's required precision is honestly something that I as a player would usually shy from, but at the same time, that keeps me fascinated by this character. It is really fun when you actually play this character correctly and pick your opponent apart.

I really think that Mario is mid tier now. I was playing against a really really good MK player named Red Halberd who's at like Dojo level and it felt like Mario wasn't restrained as a character at all. Obviously, he's not as good as MK and is at a recognizable disadvantage in the matchup, but he definitely has the tools to beat great MK players. Also, I lost every time I played him, lol.

I had 0 stocks left vs. him. If you mean how many I could get off of him, I was generally two-stocked. 3-stocked a couple times and almost beat him once. I didn't make that post to show that I did well, but that Mario had the tools to beat a good MK. I obviously got *****, lol.

Lol, now you feel my pain about the Lucas MU...I've gotten somewhat use to it though..I need to play more lucas mains to better learn the MU before I can post a solid input on the boards...

And people were surprised when I lost to a Lucas as well...This matchup is barely played offline in tourney

[EDIT]Now that I look at it..some of those placings doesn't make sense O.o

Yeah, Lucas can be pretty tricky. I've had the fortune of being able to play Dire's Lucas a few times. His Lucas is crazy. Good ones can give you a ton of trouble.

I dunno, the Lucas matchup really doesn't bother me. First time I ever did it in low tiers I won the set.

His Smashes are reeealy easy to avoid and easily punished, and he can't really kill you very effectively otherwise. I just wait him out personally. His PK Fire is super telegraphed and easy to powershield too, and that is also an unsafe move.

He can't do anything safe that you can't just trade hits with at least, and you have better combos and safer/more effective KO strategies. Just watch out for his kill moves, space well, and you should be fine.

I have to say, I don't like the Mario/Lucas MU much. I just can't seem to figure out how to get in properly.
I'm guessing you played Tyr sometime with Mario? Well this is basically what I'd do. I would not use fireballs for approaching really, and more for other stuff when he doesn't see it coming. (So hard to explain!!!) Basically you wanna go up to him and lure something out to begin damaging him and stuff, rather than force him to shield or do something else with fireballs. (Or you could also wait for him to approach, since nobody is really able to camp very well at a long distance in the matchup.)

Also, I saw you placed pretty high in low tiers at Nope's, good rep for Mario! (and Ganon too, XD)

Heh thanks. Almost beat Fonz's Ganon. Made the mistake of CPing him Rainbow Cruise (Turns out he really likes Cruise, and he camped me hard there. Ganon is better than I thought on that stage if he plays it smart.).

However, it wasn't Tyr's Lucas I lost to... Turns out he taught Nova how to play Lucas fairly decently, but I'm annoyed because I was winning the friendlies we'd played before, then we got to low tiers and I did stupid **** vs her. I seriously fell for Dair>Fsmash 9 times in the 2nd game. I was messing up way too much.

I also have no idea how to approach Lucas in that MU.

As for Ganon, I only used him 2 matches for Ganon dittos vs Cr4sh :p

(Went almost all Mario in the tourny too, but you saw how that turned out XD Ah well... hopefully with a bit more practice I'll do better next time.)

Eh, I can't really explain in extreme depth how to approach Lucas. I'm just convinced that you overall outspace him when you play correctly. You attack faster and have less commitment on aerials. Generally speaking, I punish Lucas's commitment on his aerials. The whole reason Lucas isn't good is because of his bad range and commitment on attacks (not to mention how much he telegraphs kills). Mario manages to not be so horrible because despite having bad range, he doesn't have to take huge commitment to most of his moves. That makes him MUCH more versatile in general, since this gives him a much more fundamentally significant advantage in pressure and followups.

And then your advantages in landing KO moves are obvious enough.

Pink Fresh is definitely amazing as well...can't discredit the player either.

Dude's taking MD/VA by storm, and I haven't even played him yet T_T

The only problem I have is trying to land K.O moves. I generally start to be really telegraphed and charging smashes hoping for them to hit >_>.

I know Jab1->Jab2->Dsmash is a guaranteed kill move (right?), but it's such a good move for punishing anything, that, it becomes too stale to K.O :(.

The only time it's really good to charge a Smash is when you predict an approach with F-smash, or if you're doing Famous's Boosted Up-smash.

Mentioning that sliding Up-smash, you guys REALLY need to practice it.

Usually I kill people with Up-smash anyhow. It's such an easy move to land. Great priority and utility out of shield, and it's a really good crossover option.

Forcing a KO move is the worst thing you can possibly do in this game, especially with the choices Mario gives you.

When they're KO range, play it safe and don't do anything too heavily punishable. If they make a mistake, Fsmash/Usmash them. If not, land your pokes and space your hits...they'll be high enough for even your aerials 40 or so percent higher eventually.

Well Fromundaman, don't feel bad. I think either Nova was doing really well that day or Tyr was doing pretty badly, because if I recall correctly I was told that Nova beat Tyr in bracket. (Not sure if she went MK or Lucas, though.)

EDIT: Also, on the topic of KO moves. If all else fails use Utilt, it's reaaaaaaaaally satisfying. (150%+ generally)
