Fireballs? When you want to set fire to their balls. Also whenever you're out of dashgrab range. And essentially whenever you want to generally show everyone you're awesome.

By the way I'm just gonna champion Mario and just get straight up good at this game now. You know how it is. Cape, Fireballs, and F.L.U.D.D. gonna be the keys to all the victories.

I have to be the only person in the world that loves the crap out of Frigate Orpheon and Pokemon Stadium 2.

And Brinstar/Rainbow Cruise, but that's only when MK is banned. Er, well I still like Brinstar even then, but confound his sharking.

This is just an experimental list...I decided on leaving out stages that have a chance to offer extreme changes to %s or game physics just by playing on the stage

Thing is, the broken ground during the rock formation in Stadium 1 and the windmill are really debilitating IMHO. While the Wind and Ice forms are different, it's nothing terrible, although the electric form seems to get a lot of hate... bah, screw 'em. It's better then rolling/running in place, camping behind a rock pillar, or leaving in a psuedo-cave of life. Not to mention the lips on both stages...

Brinstar is the only stage that can give extreme changes to percent as a physical force, but I think the Lylat lip kills just as many if not more people than anything Frigate can throw at people, except the right part of the stage against tether recoveries... But Oli gets more purples there so it's not like it's that much of a counterpick.

Battlefield in Melee had the same edges that PS1 has in Brawl...and there isn't auto ledge grab in Melee

the difference between the Rock/Water/Fire parts in PS1 and the Ice/Wind/Electric portions in PS2 is that the sections in PS1 are only on one part of the map...I'll agree it's lame to be camped out because someone is on the other side of the tree in the fire part...or constantly hitting the windmill...or getting locked into center for the rock part...but those are your mistake if you get caught in them...with PS2 the wind affects the whole stage, the ice affects the whole stage, and the treadmills leave a very small portion of the stage able to stand on safely...I can see it being a CP but like I said before this stage list is fairly restrictive

I think frigate is a perfectly fine CP but I'm trying to limit random deaths happening...and I think frigate takes the cake I mean...I've had deaths where the stage flips as I'm recovering...and the stage just sledgehammers me into the top blast zone...I know lylat is pretty bad with its tilt...but I still don't think it's much worse than battlefield from melee

Different game, different mechanics, different focus, really. It's not like I was using the lips as reason to ban- in fact I think it's rather funny to see them do work. Anyway - Wind: stay on ground; Ice: Stay in Air, or Dacus for a lot of fun. Electric: Three platforms and the middle of the stage are yours to play around on, and you still have the air, and the conveyors aren't exactly instant death. Whole stage or no, it's really not that dumbfounding.

Frigate will only screw you over if you mess up, though. It warns you with a siren before flipping, and if you happen to be out there it's your own fault for being sent out there.

The difference between saying "don't go in this area" versus "Stay in/on the air/ground" are two totally different things...the game is about mobility converting from air to ground all the time...someone shouldn't be punished for having to make that transition

Frigate will only screw you over if you mess up, though. It warns you with a siren before flipping, and if you happen to be out there it's your own fault for being sent out there.
I agree...but like I said this is a very restrictive list...I'm trying to avoid the chance of things like getting carried off or caught under the stage because you're trying to recover...

"if you happen to be out there it's your own fault for being sent out there."...it's my own fault for getting hit with a move due to X amount of opponent interactions that caused me to get hit out there...and it's my own fault the stage decided to flip during the time I was recovering?

you talk about problematic situations on PS1 that are actually easy to avoid by simply playing patient and not following an opponent into a certain area..but having to recover is a situation you are forced into

Since we use +/- ratio's I'm gonna go with -1. But if we actually use real ratios i'd go with 45:55 or 4:6.

Both players are able to counter the other ones camping (Mario by caping the pikmin and Olimar because you can do anything to fireballs). Olimar's camping is better, but Mario can rush him down and get nice hits. Olimar isn't too obnoxiously difficult to land a good Usmash on from my experiences either compared to some other characters. He's also fairly easy to edgeguard because whistle doesn't stop cape. Olimar can also rush down Mario and has stronger, easier to hit moves. His grab range is nuts while Mario's is balls and his ground game completely wrecks ours. Add how he is able to kill with purple/blue grabs and rack up insane damage with pikmin toss and that puts Olimar ahead, but definitely a managable MU.

So why don't we just make an Olimar Matchup export and discuss it there? Personally I know Oli has the advantage here, but it's a winnable match. Mid Range full hop cape for most pikmin, not to mention Cape does a great job at removing most Pikmin attached to you.

Also, the best Olimars do this and to fight an Olimar, you have to as well: Learn the order of Pikmin and how they are used. You have to watch them just as much as the Oli does, so you know when it's safe to approach.

Ain't nothing easier to predict than an Oli with a purple sometimes...

To add on, know the properties of the pikmin. Yellows have a weird hitbox, blues are pretty durable and whites have long range. Knowing the opponent's character is very important for any MU. I use olimar a bit and I hate when I misplay my pikmin and usmash with a white.

We don't have much longer before Luigi falls to Mario, anyway. That's the only thing that really matters right now.
You mean we don't have long before samus pass us up.
She already went up +1....We can't let a character that mario is favor against pass us plumbers by.

Funny that u should mention droppin Marry-o, cuz up until last week I also felt like pickin up dis game wit a different char. But then I started thinkin about the statement I made about myself that I cant play dis game without playin Mario. May sound ridiculous, but that is seriously the case when it comes to me. Luckily I am sum1 who is able to analyse myself and try to work on what I'm doin wrong, so wit that in mind I juss keep on playin Mario and if there ever comes a point where theres no hope left ( for me as a Mario main, not Mario as a char ) then imma have to switch things up. But for now, I juss have to have faith in myself and Mario I see where that takes me. Y'all should try doin the same, so Mario doesnt get left behind ( those wanting to drop him, atleast )

I almost dropped Mario.

But then I learned of his potential to live just about forever with good DI, so much more than Marth or Fox, and Mario has enough going for him that you can return to the stage pretty easily against most characters(arguably banned characters not withstanding), that I've been one hell of a stock tank in Doubles, enough to give our PR some pause from out west(MI is a weird place) with our janky team of Mario/ZSS.

I've gone toe to toe with Ally's Pit(it's pretty rubbish, but still) and I have to say - Mario has enough standard abilities that you can fight anyone as long as you have enough knowledge of the game. Quick Jab helps considerably, too, and his jab cancel setups are pretty nice.

He's still bad, with nothing entirely exploitable(FIHL and Cape aren't winning us tournaments, yet). He's just still pretty fun, lives a good while, and a great Doubles partner.

I feel ya man, cuz I also think that Mario has the tools to hold is own against pretty much the entire cast. And another reason not to drop Mario ( or any other char for that matter ) is knowing wut u need to improve on. Notice that its the player that needs to improve wit the char, not the char by itself. Whenever u dont do as well as ur suppose to, always try to keep in mind that 9 out of 10 times its cuz of sumthin ur doin wrong as a player, not cuz of Mario. Theres alwayzzz room 4 improvement, so yeah......

PS2 doesnt have a lip.

And I use Mario in doubles a lot and he's alright. I wouldnt say he's good, there are TONS of better doubles characters, but he's by no means bad so long as you're teaming with a character who can carry and kill. Mario does make a great support with a handful of characters.
