I kinda said that I'd release the jab-cancel guide that day to motivate me to not be lazy and actually write one...

That plan failed tho, lol. It's on my list of things to do... But it'll be awhile. Probably before the end of the month though, lol.

Thank you everyone for answering my question. Reason for me asking that question cuz i wanna hear on what y'all have to say.

Pretty much like same question a luigi asked over in the weegee boards & mostly everyone is saying that luigi has "High-tier potential" that kinda made me go like 0_o

Matador release the jab-cancel guide. Just do a write up in like 15 minutes like I do with all my threads.

My jab cancel game is all foggy and I don't remember what I used to do so release it now.

he said FALCON. not falco.
The man, not the bird.
Ah.... ah.... my mistake. Although, I do lack experience in higher level Cap.Falcon battles...

I said Mario vs Ness was 7:3 our favor...

I cringe everytime I look at my old posts.
Dude, dude, dude, dude.

I said way, way, way worst things and was an abrasive *******. **** if I could go back in time and beat myself half to death. I'd seriously do it.

Ness is ****ing terrible, so he probably gets his **** pushed in by Mario anyway. Not that I care BUT hindsight is 6'4, 20-20 and a HUGE *****.

Is there more info on this?? I remember reading something about it or a FireMario vid or somethin about FLUDD and landing lag, but I cant find it. :(

Also

@Matador: Not to be a Professor or anything, but, "Have you finished that jab-cancel paper of yours yet? I thought it was due a week ago!"
For one, I never read it in a guide, but over in the video discussion thread people were calling out my horrible landings and telling me to 'attack or use a b-move'. Honestly I couldn't see UpB working as anything more than a mixup, fireball only working against a pivot grabbing olimar, and cape tends to pop you up, leaving your landing exactly where you began. So I decided to look into DownB. Holy Jesus do I love DownB landing options. You can Fire it, Roll it, shield it, work that F.L.U.D.D.

Also I never knew you could SDI a jab cancel until Ally did that to me. Forced me into a dash attack 'cause he teleported way too far away for me to capitalize on with anything else. Not even stutterstep.

I try my best to win regardless on what people say about mario.

I'm knowledgeable enough to understand that mario is a decent/fair character that plays in a game where it's unfair for him to win big competitively. I just have difficulty accepting that sometimes.
Mario is bad. There isn't anything around that. But he still has things he can do. RARBair hits crouching Snakes and Zero suits. His jab can compete with Falco's back into a neutral position. You can shoot a basket into Metaknight's tornado with a fireball(alternatively, powershield to jab to break it). He has specific options for specific moves that you have to do, but it's strict timing and you have to make sure you're in the position to do it. There's no way around that, but the good thing is that you always(usually- MK, Falco notwithstanding) have a fighting chance as long as you're patient and don't make stupid moves or high risks.

That and do try not to become professional fishermen. Keep that FSmash contained.

Still, sitting next to Falco and D3 player discussing how bad Mario is(exact words were 'I'd rather have a SoPo.') can be depressing, but nabbing those wins where you can is totally worth picking up the plumber. Mario, for the most part, has a lot of '-1' matchups. Outplay, outlast, DI and momentum cancel. Then you, too, can get Ally to shout, "Why won't Mario die!?"

tl;dr
Mario is bad. Keep with him, though, because he's also badaxe.

Working around word filters ftw.

Keep in mind that while Mario isn't the greatest, your skills as a player will still shine more than your characters attributes.

Xeroxen's post was good and I agree. Mario isn't great, but we just gotta work with what we have to get around that. Abuse what he does have in each MU.

As for tier position, Mario's results are really going to have to pick up to get a spot in low mid imo. Some of the characters in low mid have even gotten a few 17ths at big things, which isn't great, but is really good for a lower mid tier. Mario doesn't have anything comparable atm as far as I know.

you really need to get out of this mindset...Mario is a balanced character in a game of unfair and unbalanced things

in other news....

IMPULSE - Canada's Brawl (MK Banned) & Melee National - Dabuz Confirmed! - June 30th-July 1st, 2012 - Toronto, Ontario

you should all go to this...I'll be there
I didn't think a Florida Mario of all people would be advertising a tournament in Canada! I am probably going to this, provided things go as planned for the summer job, but mainly for Melee. If there are a couple people here who are interested in going, however, I can try to derust my Mario and take you guys' money in some MM's ;).

EDIT: Hell I would enter Brawl singles just to see how we'd stack up.

I want to go but I don't want to pay 130 for a passport + transportation + a hotel (unless I went for free housing), not to mention I'd probably have to go alone because I don't know anybody around here who is going. :(

Yeah Ally and a couple others in Montreal (Stroumbert comes to mind) buffer SDI by rotating the joystick in circles when they expect to get hit by a setup/multihit move. It kinda renders Dair useless too lol.

But it makes a lot of fights a lot more manageable, as I was popping out of Pit's FSmash and other moves by following his advice. I'm pretty sure you can do the same out of the Snake Jab->Ftilt combo that I hate so much. Maybe.

As for a video... eh, I guess I could look into it. I'll need to setup some friendlies with my buddy, but it's really nothing hard to do. DownB charge in air, and then react the moment Mario touches the ground(or before hand if you need to emergency air-dodge or fire).

Super I will be at a MI tourney on the 5th.

Mario will be played, and it may or may not be super hot. (Probably will be)
The 5th? That'd be Pingas. I don't think I'll be making it out to that one- I'll be running a local here in the Ludington area at the same time. Low impact, free entrance kind of thing. Kind of my last hurrah as President of the Gamer's Club at the college I'm graduating from the day before.

Rep Mario, Xero, when I cannot.

I played Kirin once. Mario dittos. MLG. Probably my favorite games of Brawl ever. It was intense. (I won 2 of those 3 games ;) ) Kirin is also super cool.

And damn I'm digging this new avatar.

Do anyone here play brawl minus online? I haven't updated into brawl minus x2 yet, but i will soon.

http://smashmods.com/index.php/brawlminus.html
I played Brawl- for a short while until my Wii disk drive stopped working. (Can't play any other Brawl mods anymore :() I have never tried online play because no one else I knew had the mod. It is very fun to play, especially abusing Mario's metal cap taunt! Too bad the latest version of Brawl- restricts Mario's meat cap taunt to a timer, you can't reuse it until the metal power up is gone.

Baiting IC Dashgrab, input a retreating pivot grab(You can buffer this from shield), use Bthrow to separate Climbers with spinning hitbox and give chase to Nana. Situational, but I've been having good results in baiting approaches. I wish the Pivot range was a bit more awesome, but it does beat the IC's dashgrab, it would seem.

Just throwing that out there. Mario, like most characters, slide back when you quickly input a pivot grab from a standing position. The quicker you are about it the less you slide, which is a good thing in this case.

I know baiting into pivot isn't new, but the oddity of Mario's hitbox on a backthrow is what I'm most interested in using. Don't have any real IC's to practice against, though. God do I hate this matchup, though.

I enjoy that matchup. Generally you don't even have to get near the ground and if you space right you can pressure them with your aerials without being grabbed. Not to mention that you can just use smashes and most of the time you'll hit ONE of them at least, which is all you really need.

I've never really had a hard time with that matchup though, idk why. :/

Live where your only IC practice is the 4th best IC and suddenly I have all the hate in the world. Still, stole a stock from him, but then I messed up and lost my stock lead, and then tripped into a freakout where I got grabbed because I wasn't sure what to do so I rolled, he read and forced the issue.

I hate ICs. If they're as patient as an ICs should be then you should always lose. Ice Blocks and blizzard beat everything we can do because you can't cape ice, and only a perfectly spaced FSmash will hit them out of a blizzard... in which if you screw up, you take damage, or worse and they dashgrab you during your cooldown.

Hate hate hate that matchup.

Man the first time I played a good IC it was Lain and I almost won that (I started getting really nervous lol), and I was going super aggro. :p

THAT REMINDS ME. I need to ask somebody how to keep your game up as you go through a tournament. Apparently I've gotten over my nerve issues, which is cool and all, but at my last tournament I got to finals in everything I played and noticed SEVERE degredation in all the games I was playing that day. I ended up losing in Brawl to somebody I had beaten that day, and had the same thing happen in Marvel. (Both in Loser's finals too :( )

How would you guys reccomend staying energized?

I might have been subconsciously, but honestly I thought I had Marvel on lock and then I was getting happy birthday'd and dropping combos everywhere.

My loss at smash WAS against my crewmate, who was the one person there who worried me the most.

I don't think I was thinking enough those games was the thing, I kind've crashed. A similar situation happened at my last tournament before my hiatus, but I didn't make it nearly as far into anything.

Lain just goes MK these days, really. I haven't seen him consider anything or anyone else since a few matches at Phoenix Saga 1, where he lost.

I simply need more matchup experience vs. just about every character. I can handle the ZSS matchup like a boss these days. Every ZSS I go against so far has fallen to the Super Mario. However, I need to grab some serious wins here if I want to be considered to be any good, which means getting some guidance from those still better than me.

To be fair, that was like a year and a half ago when he mostly went ICs.

And I had soooooooo much water it wasn't even funny. Food probably would've helped though. :/
