Nobody I know mains Wolf, but 1 or 2 friends I have use him as a secondary, and they live near me. My friends are some casual gamers that go to the same church as me.
Casual gamers are much different because they do things predictably. I played people casually in my dorm last year using Pit, Sonic, and DK and I would win. Hell I won with ROB and even casually I never touched that character. I went on chibo status and camped the ledge while glide tossing the gyro and shooting lasers.

Yeah, I wouldn't treat that with any sort of viable respect when it comes to dealing with any Wolf's you'll be meeting in a tournament scene. A Wolf's Side-B can do so many things when recovering- let alone spiking you if you're not careful- that you can't expect to do anything worthwhile unless you read your opponent perfectly with equally perfect timing.

Going down the list, we have; Recovering to the ledge, Recovering above the edge, Lightstep the edge, or a wolf can hold down and teleport through the stage where he has a very, very powerful strike that he can mix up with if you're not careful.

And he can Up-B if he cares to. And I'm not a Wolf main so I may be missing some things, such as using his Down-B to shrug off your attempts to edge guard(if you're any good, you can down-B without fastfalling).

UpB def beats wolf's bair, theres no doubt about that, but the problem is Wolf's air speed + the quickness of the bair that make it hard to actually beat out.

Landing while charging Down+B.

Awesome?

Or really freakin' wet-your-opponents-pants awesome?

Honestly I've used that to awesome effect so far, and it's why I keep my F.L.U.D.D. uncharged. Landing into an instant dodgeroll or pushing my opponent back before they can get your landing is awesome.

Question for my fellow plumbers....(or none plumbers)

Do mario really feel like a low-tier character to y'all? I mean, i know he doesn't have that legit kill power or those safe kill moves other characters have.

I feel that he should be low mid-tier at best esp with the tools he have.

At first glace I call mid tier but you have to consider the low tier characters.
I tend to think that if Lucas is low tier, Mario definitely is too.
I think both Lucas and mario should be in mid tier, without a doubt. But if people, even lucas mains (/the lucas boards) are adamant about how bad lucas is usually, then mario should be down right next to lucas. Hell, I think mario is worse than lucas, and if lucas is low tier, mario belongs there.

I wouldn't mind him and lucas moving up to low mid tier though, definitely.
BUT THEN AGAIN I COULDN'T PLAY HIM AND WIN LOW TIER TOURNAMENTS.
SO MARIO ****ING SUCKS, KEEP THAT TERRIBLE PLUMBER IN LOW TIER
FREE MONEY

I guess everyone is entitle to their own opinion...I laugh everytime i hear someone say "Mario sucks" or "Mario mains will never win with him in big tourneys"

One day, that'll all change....Maybe not today, Maybe not tomorrow, But it will change....someday.

Mario is a decent character in a game that does not benefit his playstyle. If there was something changed that would encourage more offensive gameplay, such as more shieldstun/more shielddrop time/less landing lag/enough hitstun to actually perform a combo/less forgiving recovery system to encourage active edgeguarding/stricter timing on powershielding, then Mario could be competitive. As it stands now, with these factors combined, it's an uphill battle.

When people say he sucks because he has no range/kill power, well they're kind of right because those are the tools needed to compete in a game of ******** hitboxes and defensive walling (short of having an absurd projectile or MK-esque attributes). Mario is a very balanced character, but he's not stacked enough in the departments that matter.

It would be cool to see Mario as a middle tier, although it is not likely- unfortunately. Just like ThatGuy said, when people say Mario isn't good because of low ko reliability and range, the people are right. The main goal of brawl is to knockout your opponent, and if a character already has unreliable ko options, there's a large chance the character will be low tier.

you really need to get out of this mindset...Mario is a balanced character in a game of unfair and unbalanced things

in other news....

I think he's low-mid with his attributes alone. If one were to argue low for him, it'd have to be due to his two really bad match-ups (D3 and MK).

Aside from that though, I feel he belongs in the lower half of mid. He has to start performing well for that to become a reality though.

Find a variety of players to work with, namely a couple people around your skill level (who hopefully don't live too far!) for everyday sparring, and some players who are clearly better than you to use as a barometer of skill. Learn things from these better players, and apply them against the equal skill players, until you become of equal skill to these better players. Rinse and repeat until you're the best in the world!
Tch. Sounds like work. Anyone got a more immediate solution? :glare:

Haha, jk, yeah... now other than Wolf, there's this Falco that's ripping me a new one too. More work for TMario...

Is there more info on this?? I remember reading something about it or a FireMario vid or somethin about FLUDD and landing lag, but I cant find it. :(

@Monk: You're right. I'm pretty much stuck on that mindset because of the monster skill level of flameleon's mario. It's like metaknight with fireballs.

The only mario main that can **** decent mk players. Hell, sometimes he 3-stock mk's.

And quite honestly, his placement on a tier list is an arbitrary figure. It honestly doesn't matter.

Believe it or not Coolwhip I used to think just like you. Unfortunately, reality has to hit you at one point or another in order to improve your game. You have to accept that you're playing a bad character and figure out how to cover the character's flaws. Otherwise, you'll never get anywhere.

I honestly don't even care what people have to say about this character anymore. I just do my best to win with him, which is all the mentality I need and it works.

this is the problem

A player of an above average intellect and knowledge of the game is still able to overcome some bad match-ups...but once things get to a higher level of play character flaws become more relevant...

Mario's match-ups in higher levels of play involve him having to outplay the opponent during every second of the match just to have a chance to win...

I believe it's possible for Mario to break into mid tier...but it's only going to be one or two spots away from low

and that's only going to happen if all of you go to...

@Xeroxen: I like what you said, especially the last sentence. I try my best to win regardless on what people say about mario.

I'm knowledgeable enough to understand that mario is a decent/fair character that plays in a game where it's unfair for him to win big competitively. I just have difficulty accepting that sometimes.

@Monk: lol, keep advertising. i'd like to go, but i'm gonna need a passport & butt load of money.

Nah man, I just think people underrate Link.
And idk maybe I just underrate Mario but I fail to see what match-ups are supposed to be in his favor 'cept Falcon and Yoshi ... MAYBE Zelda but idk, never played a good one. I mean, I love Mario and he's fun to play as and he has a lot of cool stuff you can use but I think you have some of the worst odds to win overall if you use him =/
