Nuts. Haven't played that one. Just got 1, 6, and 7 under my belt.

And I'd love to tourny, but it's always work, someone's bday, some anniversary, some yit always coinciding.

Sometimes I wish I didn't have a life like all the normal people.

I haven't been to a real tourney in months T_T
I went to a smashfest/small tourney last weekend and I am going to a big tourney this weekend. Still improving all the time. Got 5th last weekend. ALLLLL Mario too. I want to play you so I can show you how much I've improved Matador!

I went to a smashfest a few days ago...To my surprise, I'm still capable of 3-stocking people. I think my tourney days are over though...Nobody in SoVA cares to go to anything anymore...

So I went to a tourney yesterday. Got out of pools easy, then won my next 3 matches. I got bored waiting for my next match so I left the room for a bit to play Initial D and missed my next match. Then I won 2 more in losers and got knocked out by a Toon Link.

So, I went to a tournament yesterday.

Pool was: Hadesblade / Ori_Bro / Delux / myself / a Kirby.

0-2 vs Hadesblade (17th, iirc). Lost game one with Pit one stock. Lost game two with Mario on battlefield, one stock game. I took him 0-80 and then he spiked me on my second stock and lost all my spaghetti (momentum).

0-2 vs DeLux (9th in bracket). Wow his IC's are very good. Played what I thought was a very good first stock, got bodied rest of the game. Took him to Brinstar game two, one stock low % win for him. He said my Mario was pretty impressive, so I was pretty proud.

1-2 vs Ori_bro (17th, iirc). Got his IC's game one. Beat his IC's game one. He took me to Halberd game two and I couldn't manage to seal the deal. high % one stock loss. Took him to Frigate after he banned Brinstar. A mid-% one stock loss that was sealed by a choice not to grab a ledge on a Frigate stages switch. Every game was last stock last hit.

2-0 vs the Kirby main. Went all Pit in this MU.

Amateur bracket, I got 9th. Lost to shadowphoenix's Falco and then DrillbitSammy beat me Luigi vs Mario later in losers... only to lose to the Kirby I 2-0'd in pools.

So uh.... sad to say, but I got slapped by reality recently. So far, I've been rocking Mario hardcore. I've been winning against everyone I played, find new blood and just own. Until now.

Heard of this pretty good player that uses Wolf. I've beaten a few Wolfs, figured I could take him. *sigh* It's been a long time since I've been spanked like that. This dude is leagues above me.

This ever happened to you guys? Just get completely completely wrecked? I know the answer is to train even more now, but you guys do anything special to get back into it? New mindsets or anything like that?

I mean, you play mario. it's only a matter of time before someone completely wrecks you. Strange that it was a wolf though. but that bair probably does beat everything mario has.

Before using techniques I found on the boards, I would always get wrecked by this Ike/Pit user who I know well. Abusing the cape has helped me quite a lot.

It wasn't the smashes even! This dude did not use smash at all! That blasted shield! Soon as I'd get close, shield. He'd D-throw me off the stage and follow up with shield stuns to block my recovery... Wolf without smashes is one fast s.o.b.

I just gotta figure it out....

Ok, I guess that was kind of an exaggeration... he did save d-smash for kill moves. And if dthrow didnt get me off stage, he'd follow up with a dacus.

My two wins (out of like, 15 matches) were because he was inexperienced against decent marios (I think I can call myself "decent") and I'd catch him with a cape. After that, he'd just camp that center.

And yes, bair.

well wolf's smashes aren't even the part of the matchup that gives us some trouble... it's pretty much just bair.
Well, the Wolfs I've fought before would try to close in with Fsmash. In anticipation, I'd usually dair in place and their Fsmash would run into it. But not this Wolf. He definitely fought circles around me. I'm gonna fight him again soon and Im doing homework, reading the boards and all.

My biggest thing is mindset. Just wondering really what kind of thought process you guys go through after getting spanked.

Unless you're like Matador - "Sorry, I don't get spanked"

Wolf with wiimote shake smash is the most broken thing to come out of any smash game
seriously, there's top tier with meta, and then
SHAKEWOLF TIER
-Wolf with shake smash
most broken thing ever, especially if you're vs.ing someone with common seizures.

I said more than your Mario was impressive.

After I lost my second stock I turned to the people watching and asked, "What the **** is this character?"

Lol, I wish I were good enough for that to be the case. I could probably help if I had a video of your Mario in front of me. Not even from that match-up...just a video of your Mario to see how far along you are.

Prolly writing a small guide to jab cancelling later today or tomorrow, btw. Gonna be based off stuff I've learned and have seen from people like Boss, Famous and 2Fast. Hope it inspires some of you guys to abuse it in a way that you hadn't thought of before.

Matador I will be posting the vids from the smashfest in bloomington two weekends ago on youtube soon. Would you be able to talk with me on the xat as a sort of live critique session? We did that before and it was very helpful to me.

You know, I would love to post vids... but I have to invest in vid capture equipment. Unless there's another way to hook it up to my laptop or something?

Also, jab cancel guide would totally help out. Cant wait.

I played one game with Ally last saturday. He posed a simple question: "What can Mario do against Snake's Ftilt?" And I realized that the answer was a depressing "Not much." Thoughts?

You're right, steep. Mario can't do nothing against snake's f-tilt...
But you can try to PS>Grab before snake can get the second hit in.

Agreed with boss, the only thing mario doesn't have is raw strength & power like snake.
Mario just have "Gimmicks" that can screw snake over & potentially give you the win.

I use this old DVD recorder and blank DVDs. It's decent quality, imo. If you an SD card, there are plenty of people who upload for you with good quality. You could also exchange FCs with somebody if you have replays on your Wii and send them to that person for them to upload.

That's assuming you haven't considered all that already though, lol.

Usmash and Utilt clank with it, IIRC. Fsmash can outprioritize if spaced right. Our ftilt can compete with the range and speed, but loses head to head cuz of his disjoint so you gotta be faster. Cape will beat it. It can be pivot grabbed with good spacing. Jab is faster and somewhat competes range-wise. Straight upB will beat it if you're close enough. ISSDI and normal SDI soften the blow if he manages to hit you or your shield.

That's about it, though. None of those options are great and are all situational. Most of those options are too slow and risky if you miss. Others don't offer any real kind of solution outside of hitting him before he hits you. And they all require a pretty great deal of prediction. Both Utilt and Ftilt suuuuuck for Mario, lol. Those two, and his weight make this match-up much harder than it needs to be.

You have to be really wary of his ranges and comfortable with your own spacing to deal with it.

Haha, yeah I remember.

I don't even remember thinking anything on that fsmash read. I just kinda had a twitch and started charging.

You were very good staying in safe zones for IC and then you just wouldn't let me land on Brinstar. I was very impressed about how you kept Nana safe in a lot of the situations I tried to keep Popo and Nana split.

Just ask YoshQ. I'm sure he'd record some matches for you.
Thanks. I shot him a message, hopefully I'll hear somethin soon. Also, (keep in mind Im huge noob with vids and replays) it seems like every SD card I throw in my wii wont accept. Do I have to format it or something?? I dont even know.

Either something wrong with your wii or your sd cards are lock. You should see a switch on the upper left handed side of your sd card. (Flick the switch up)

If you got replays on yer sd card, do not format it, you'll delete everything you got.

Well, duh! If you've never gotten totally outclassed at least once in your life, then you're playing the wrong people. The fact that you've been winning against everyone you played is most probably a bad sign...I mean, you'd get as much benefit playing computers if that's the case, lol.

You don't really need a new mindset every time you lose. You just need to develop one that works. Find a variety of players to work with, namely a couple people around your skill level (who hopefully don't live too far!) for everyday sparring, and some players who are clearly better than you to use as a barometer of skill. Learn things from these better players, and apply them against the equal skill players, until you become of equal skill to these better players. Rinse and repeat until you're the best in the world!

I think Usmash and UpB could challenge it

I saw some Snake comments. I just want to say that if you get Snake offstage without his double jump, you're in for some good times lol.
