If you grab a fastfaller and fthrow them when they are at about 9-14%, they land on the ground so you can fireball them and then dash at them for either a half charged up smash or a regrab. It can be avoided by teching and I think by DI'ing up.

I do this a lot, but I forgot where I originally saw it posted on the boards.

F-throw Fireball Jab lock is pretty legit, has potential to 0death some characters on FD or otherwise do incredibly massive damage by leading into a guaranteed charged F-smash. Not that it will ever be reliable against good players, but it's worth knowing.

And for other random gimmicks that are worth trying, try F-throwing Jigglypuff at 0% instead of D-throw to set up U-air juggles.

It's possible to get a jab after the fireball? o_O

Are you sure that if you get the fireball, the jab is guaranteed? If so, I'm going to have some fun with this. XD

I don't know if fthrow -> fireball lock -> jablock is possible, but there's a few time where I was far from my opponent, threw a fireball for the initial lock, then I got my jabs in xD

I'm just wondering if it's guaranteed because if it's anything less than that I can't see it working. When I get knocked on the ground I input what I want to do repeatedly way before I get a chance to actually perform it. I imagine everyone else does the same thing.

Veggi, ur opponet has to miss the tech. THEN IMMIDIATELY fire ball them. It should buy you some time to get ready to jab lock. If you don't jab lock, then they are forced into a regular get up animation. You can also take advantage of this and Fsmash them.

You can still Stutter Step Fsmash them if you feel you can't get close enough to them in time. The fire ball forces them into a get up animation.

F-throw -> reverse F-smash on Fox is TOO FUNNY.

As paraphrased from Pierce:

"lmao it's that Marth ****."

Is that a legit set-up at low percents?

Heh, neat-o.
F-throw -> reverse F-smash is a 100% guaranteed combo that he cannot DI out of. Does like 26-27 damage. Pretty useless, but still, hilarious. Besides that, F-throw -> regrab on Fox is guaranteed at 0%, and if F-throw is stale, you have a chaingrab on him until like 30% (**** him on walkoffs lol).

I THINK you can F-throw chaingrab Falco too, but the timing at the very least is much more strict, or he has a very narrow window to spotdodge it.

Anyhow F-throw on Jigglypuff at 0% is also worth using over D-throw for starting U-air juggles srsly.

I don't claw very much, but I can adapt to it if I need to. I need to claw to pivot walk, and I'm pretty close to being able to pivot walk competently.

Both. I think whenever I'm spacing, camping, or trying to get inside. If I'm juggling, I usually go by instinct unless I'm mindgaming.

Of course, if I'm down by a stock instinct overtakes me and I do a rawr combo.

What is claw exactly? I know Xero holds the controller differently but not sure if it's claw or not.

Is claw useful to know?
Nah, not really useful to know. I normally play that way, it's really not different except for SH aerials being a little easier and grabbing being a little harder.

If Xero plays with his left hand normally and his right hand hovering over the right side of his controller while pressing the buttons with his index/middle while moving Cstick with his thumb, he claws.

Was just curious if anyone else was weird like me

I can't claw worth ****. XD
I hear it's better for some stuff...playing Mario probably isn't one of those things though, lol.

random off topic question :

do most mario mains here play by instinct or conciously ?
Instinct, which is horrible. I'm kinda forced to since I don't have a Wii to play on.

I have to go by what I USED to do and what openings present themself instead of the way I should be playing which is reacting and adjusting to every situation. It's good for my aggressive style I suppose, but if you play someone who can heavily mindgame you like Boss...you get eaten up. I'm starting to move away from this the more I play...but right now it's part of my playstyle.

Gets worse when I play with music on. That's why I don't anymore, lol

I play by instinct. If I start to think, Ima screw myself over, because I overthink. Then my mind wonders off then I think of food. o_o

Some characters I can play by instinct. Mario is not one of them. He requires way too much thought and concentration.

Boss and Vato play by instinct I'm very sure. Bo, myself, and Pierce play consciously and do things very deliberately.

I doubt it. Ask anybody in MD/VA, Boss is really mindgame oriented.

Can't really mindgame while playing off instinct.

Yeah, Boss has great mindgames. Idk though, the way I sense he does it however is more or less on the fly just from what I observe. His mind adapts quickly. He is never really able to explain why his tricks work. They just come to him as he plays. And beyond just having good mindgames, he plays a much quicker technical style than most other players.

My playstyle is also very mindgame oriented, but isn't based on my ability to adapt, but on deliberate strategy and understanding how my opponent operates. A match for me is almost like executing a battle plan.

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
lol i just talked to boss and i asked him the same question, he does a little bit of both ,he does play by options but not heavily option oriented (only things like, if u dthrow them they only have like 3 options, jump attack or airdodge etc) but also plays mindgames oriented or what he likes to say, he likes to mind**** ppl XD.

though i realized i lose my focus in a serious match... i like stop talking to myself inside my head and just auto pilot lol..

Yeah, auto-pilot will you wrecked if it's not applied correctly.

It's like a boxing match, where you have to work with spacing your opponent and staying calm, moving around and avoiding attacks, and then when you get that solid hit in and disorient your combatant, that's when auto-pilot mode kicks in and you just whail on the guy until he gets his guard back up or the referee pulls you away.

Mario's a character where you gotta know what works per opponent, so an instinctive nature won't really work for him unless your opponent never hits the shield button.

I figure that kind of playstyle is natural when you play enough. Most Melee vets play Brawl with that kind of adaptation and quick decision-making. Those things sort of carry over.

I just do things that work...
Lmao, I do things that MIGHT work.

Often times they don't XD

I got it too, but I'm still a newbie at it.

My main is Tao (obvious), and my secondary is Jin.

My ID is HeroMystic, so add me whenever and we can both have casual (n00bie) fights.

I wish I could play BlazBlue more. I mean the worst character Iron Tager is like viable...well...until v13 comes along...but still, he can do stuff.

lol vato Mario dittos suck.

Yeah so anyhow I'm actually starting to powershield moves deliberately. I can powershield C4 on reaction really consistently, and I powershield Falco's SideB like about half the time (well, mainly in response to my friend's EXTREMELY campy playstyle).

And I'm really noticing that Mario's small shield size is pretty annoying if you're powershielding projectiles..
