IMO I feel Smash should go big or go home - "go big" meaning cutting out all the 1Ps except Mario; DK; Link; a Pokémon or two; and maybe Villager or Duck Hunt if you're pushing; to go for a true gaming history crossover, while "go home" means committing a no-exceptions 3P purge and devoting to trying to get as much Nintendo stuff - popular, cult, obscure, and even outright embarassing - as possible.

The latter I feel should represent commercials; accessories; manuals; TV/movie adaptations; pre-gaming toys; and things like that. Wouldn't want any Rare stuff though.

Super Mario Bros. NES, Mushroom Kingdom 2/Super Mario Bros. USA, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64 will have 2nd iteration stages.

Metallic Fists is the replacement moveset variation for Mario. Replaces the Hammer moveset variant. Mario's Forward B functions as a metallic jab. Mario's Down B functions as a metallic head bash. Mario's Natural B recycles Mario's Smash 64's Forward A Smash.

Continuing the unfinished character moveset variations for DK, Captain Falcon, Kirby, Yoshi, Pikachu, Little Mac.

DK's side B functions as a barrel pong for faster range. Down B functions as ponging the barrel upward, Barrel Throw variation. Side B functions as a elbow/fist smash. Down B functions as a chop, Fast Kong variation.

Captain Falcon's Down B functions as a down punch, Fists of Might variation. Down B functions as a counter attack ending with a knee spin, Meteor Knee variation.

Kirby's Down B functions as a rapid spin multi kick attack, Spin Dance variation. Down B functions as Kirby sprung upward, coming down with a dive kick. Kirby's standard moveset variation reuses his Smash 64's rush Forward A.

Yoshi's Natural B functions as ice breath. Down B functions as a head slam supported with fire, Elemental variation.

Pikachu's side B functions as a iron tail attack, Iron Tail variation. Side B functions as a web setter. Down B functions as a defensive web shield, Electroweb variation.

Little Mac's Natural B and side B functions as powerful stun punches. Down B functions as a quick react stun punch counter, Invisible Punch variation. Star Power variation, Natural B, side B, Down B and Recovery have has star power. Natural B, side B and Down B has corkscrew punching style supported with star power.

Fox's standard moveset variation reuses his Smash 64 Forward A drop kick.

Items: Smash Ball, Daybreak Parts, Healing Field, Golden Hammer, Death's Scythe, Steel Diver, Staff, Soccer Ball, Spiny Shell, Killer Eye, Special Flag, Assist Trophy, Bomber, Drill, Bombchu, Boomerang, Boss Galaga, Back Shield, Blast Box, Superspicy Curry, Screw Attack, Banana Gun, Unira, Gooey Bomb, Pitfall, Hothead, X Bomb, Team Healer, Spring, Beetle, Baseball, Super Leaf, Rolling Crate, Master Ball, Fairy Bottle, Ore Club, Rage Blaster, Smart Bomb, Banana Peel, Hocotate Bomb, Cucco, Black Hole, Rocket Belt, Healing Sprout, Killing Edge, Gust Bellows, Ramblin' Evil Mushroom, Deku Nut, Beehive, Super Launch Star are removed.

Returnee Items: Beam Sword, Egg, Bomb-Omb, Warp Star, Motion Sensor Bomb, Fan, Dumper, Star Rod, Home-Run Bat, Super Star, Capsule, Ray Gun, Pokeball, Maximum Tomato, Flipper, Heart Container, Fire Flower, Green Shell, Cloaking Device, Mr. Saturn, Red Shell, Super Mushroom, Metal Box, Freezie, Parasol, Barrel Canon, Party Ball, Lip's Stick, Super Scope, Food, Bullet Bill, Dragon Parts, Timer, POW Block, Franklin Badge, Fire Bar, Grass.

New Items: Hammer Suit, Sword of Kings, Monster Cake, Bazuka, Brain Food Lunch, Easter Egg, Spike Gloves.

Might consider moveset variation exchange, Flexible/64 Moves for Captain Falcon.

One other change I've been thinking of as of late is reworking the Poké Ball and Assist Trophy lineups. I feel like both lineups have gotten a little too stagnant after Brawl, and while it hasn't gotten that bad, I think it's just time for both lineups to trim the list of returnees down a decent bit, while adding new ones (or even ones that had already been cut prior) in their place, even if it means the lineups for both would be overall shorter. Not to say either would be completely reworked, for some would stay in some form (either exactly the same or somewhat reworked), but I'd say maybe half or so would go. Maybe I'll make a list of the reworked lineups sometime.

I've posted some of these things in other places but...

Single player-
Melee style adventure mode with branching paths that lead into completely different stages, challenges and bosses.
Break the target maker- self explanatory able to create your own break the target stages and inject it into the single player mode and upload online.
smash run - bring it back

characters-
I'd keep the roster mostly the same, but if any cuts need to happen 3rd party characters would be the first to go. As for newcomers after that... all in-house Nintendo characters for base game to not hold up production trying to find out if its possible to use X character. Then make 1 DLC pack of 6 3rd party characters and another DLC pack to be a mix 3 1st party and 3 3rd party characters.

base game newcomers
  • Bandana Dee
  • Isaac
  • Cranky Kong
  • Excitebike
  • Undecided Pokemon character
  • Waluigi
  • Ganon (blue pig)
  • Krystal
  • Chibi Robo
  • Viridi

DLC Pack 1
  • Shantae
  • Doom Guy
  • Bomberman
  • Dante
  • Scorpion
  • Knuckles

DLC Pack 2
  • Kratos
  • Master Chief
  • Crash
  • Skull Kid
  • (reserved for a shameless 1st party advertisement to promote new game; not caring about smash player backlash)
  • Kos-mos

New mechanics
  • parrying projectiles will cause a brief period of invincibility and allow a fighter to dash left or right in a quick burst of speed to close the distance with enough cooldown to block again by the time the invincibility is over.
  • an idea i saw a while back on another thread... short hop button. we have 2 jump buttons why not take advantage of that and have 2 different properties for them to make it easier for the more casual audience to perform the short hop.
  • expand on shield B and give every character a unique mechanic connected to it like Inkling.

I am too indecisive to give an actual roster. I want weird picks, gaming history stuff, or obscure Nintendo stuff. I want to fight, giant bugs and marbles and cars and dice and a house or whatever. I dunno if all of those are even fit the description of any viable video game characters, I would just get a lot of amusement out of such things. I would either start over almost entirely with the roster or make the next game "Nintendo VS Everyone Else [in gaming]", like I've said a few times. I am pretty fickle, and could probably hyperfixate on certain choices one day before going onto something else the next. I might even allow non-VG characters on certain days. Obviously, I am not the best to manage this. I'd definitely like some weird early arcade or Atari characters, Carmen Sandiego, the Metal Slug tank w/the gunners selectable like Bowser Jr., a lot of genres that aren't represented, some big icons like the Space Invaders [fits under that first umbrella], Lara Croft, Scorpion or Sub-Zero, Master Chief, DOOM Slayer, someone from Sony directly [being reasonable: Kratos or Ratchet, being biased: Parappa or Sweet Tooth], perhaps a Valve character, GTA even...I'll admit my thinking is also pretty America centric.

However, something I would like that is less wonky to decide upon is a fun Adventure Mode with some character interaction. I would base levels, enemies, bosses, etc. on games that have playable characters on the roster (how novel), and maybe even some that aren't, if it can work. Maybe have branching paths like the 3DS Classic Mode. Character interactions would mostly by text dialogue/picture bits as you meet more characters, maybe some win quotes both here and in the Single Player modes, as well.

I'd like some more mini-games. Stranger ones, even. I wanna see Puzzle Fighter, Puyo Puyo, or Panel de Pon just show up out of nowhere. A fishing mini-game. Rock-Paper-Scissors. Dance Dance Revolution. Why not?

Overall vibe would be fairly cartoony, like maybe sort of a cel-shaded update/harkening back to Smash 64's aesthetics. I might even treat it overall like a parody of previous Smash games in some ways, however I could pull that off while still having it be a fun, satisfying game to play. I'd want it to be fast-paced and flashy overall, but not to the point where you get epilepsy, I suppose. This is all pretty disorganized, maybe I'll add to it later and figure more things out.

For my Smash's Classic Mode, will have a fighter selection option. Player can select a foe to challenge out of a 2-1 pick and choose route. Routes will reuse Smash 64's Classic Mode style, but Classic Mode will line up to 17 foes, but only 9 can be essentially picked. Polygon Team and Metal Mario successors will also be selectable. First foe of Classic Mode will be randomly generated. And must be challenged before further foe choosing can be begin.

I have a lot of ideas for this that I might compile into a super list now, but here's the basics.

Super Smash Brothers: Generations would be a smash bros game with a heavy focus on Nintendo, with third parties mostly fitting the bill of having a long history with the company. It has the name ''Generations'' for having characters from Nintedno's earliest days in gaming all the way up to their most modern titles.

Newcomers would include the likes of Sheriff, Muddy Mole, Mike Jones, Ayumi Tachibana, Balloon Fighter, etc from the retro days, and then the likes of Octoling, Springman, Ring Fit, Rillaboom, etc for the modern day IPs, with the middle ground being covered with characters like Isaac, Karate Joe, and Andy.

Third Party newcomers would be characters with a heavy association to Nintendo, the likes of Ryu Hayabusa, Phoenix Wright, Goemon, and others.

"Unfinished Business" is the new sequel to Classic Mode. A randomized Mode based on rivalry, sequel-izing Adventure Mode with course levels. Mode will have a number of 10 foes. Sub Rivals with have additional buff and temporary armor for Unfinished Business Mode. Metal Peach is Metal Mario's successor. Giant Mario is Giant DK's successor. Team Waddle Dee is Kirby Team's successor for Classic Mode.

Waddle Dee is a Newcomer and Kirby echo.

Let's call this concept, "Super Smash Bros. KNEES OF FURY" because this is probably going to be this ridiculously niche thing that only I take any interest in

Okay, let's start with a bit of a controversial thought - the roster doesn't go above 40 at any point. There's a few reasons for this - firstly, I want characters to be able to be effectively developed without having to be rushed, and I want series to be able to be represented in more ways than purely "are they on the roster." Not only this, but I ideally want the team working on this to be able to work at a reasonable pace without too much to have to think of - part of that comes down to me not having to draw up 100+ unique concepts, but the people working on a game like this should also be able to do things such as have reasonable work hours. Not to throw shade on bigger rosters, but this is how I'd personally like to do it.

I'd also like to have at least a few of the characters decided by the team as opposed to all of them being decided by myself. Whilst there's a lot of picks I'd really like to see in a Smash game, I think it can be just as fun to devise movesets and ideas for characters I may not have thought of - and having the team be able to really affect the game's roster would be awesome too. Whilst I'd ideally want to keep this Nintendo-only, it'd be a great way to see characters that people are passionate about get into the game - so let's just call them "free-space."

Now, I think there's a few things that whilst I'd like to see them, consumers might not - and this is why I'd like to lean into another point, specifically - "Echo Fighters should have distinguishing factors that justify their inclusion aside from value modifications." I do think that clone characters can be really good to see in terms of conserving resources, but looking at the general reception to characters like Dark Pit, I can see why people wouldn't be interested in their inclusion unless they did things differently. For instance - Dark Pit's moveset, given that his render has him holding a Staff, could be focused on representing alternative sides of Uprising's combat system that Pit might not necessarily represent. I'd ideally want to keep clone characters to a minimum, but there are some that would make a lot of sense and overall be cool to see, so I think they'd be fine. (For clarification, I'm sorry to inform you but Dark Pit isn't getting into the roster.)

So, let's get into the part that consumers will actually be interested in: the roster. And here... I'm not exactly sure. My focus with this would be a combination of three types of characters. These would be:

1. The "Iconic" Picks. Your Mario's and Pikachu's. Whilst this might seem obvious, this also refers to characters that are an iconic representation of their own series - so, for instance, Samus for Metroid, or Ness for Mother. These are the characters you think of when you think of the series - which makes series like Fire Emblem and Xenoblade difficult, admittedly, but I'll get to them.
2. The "Logical" Picks. This is where you'd slot in characters that feel obvious, but aren't necessarily the "icons" of their individual IPs as a whole - characters like Peach, Dedede, Marth and Shulk, slot in here. This also somewhat includes villains - my thinking here is that these are the sorts of characters that you'd want to see in a Melee-esque iteration of the series, obvious picks that miss out somewhat on the top-dog roles.
3. The "Potential" Picks. Characters chosen either due to their moveset potential, or the potential content and ideas they could bring to the table. For this sort of thing, I'm thinking characters like Wii Fit Trainer, Ice Climbers, and to an extent Bowser Jr and Rosalina and Luma - characters that make sense to add due to relative importance and legacy, but primarily bring interesting and unique concepts to the table in terms of movesets.

Whilst the first two have a lot of focus on a character's relative importance, the third is as open-ended as can be. Weird or obscure characters, if they're fun, engaging and unique, are totally logical to see! This could include reps for relatively low-selling, obscure, or dead series like F-Zero, Pilotwings, or Chibi-Robo amongst others - anything's on the table. With this, I'd like to see a mix between different types of characters - maybe some more unusual picks for already-represented IPs such as Kracko or Accelgor, some potential retro picks with characters like F-Type, Mike Jones, and Excitebike Racer, or some just outright obscure IPs to toss in there like Eternal Darkness or Face Raiders.

I'd also like to give a shoutout to stages - that is to say, I'd totally still be up for extra stages that don't necessarily represent a specific character, even if I'd like at least every character IP to be represented at least once. Some deeper cuts, like a stage stylised in the red, white and black tones of hanafuda cards, would be really cool to see.

There's a lot to dig into, and I think the difficulty is how big Smash is. Let's just say I'm glad I'm not the one handling it all!

I feel that some people may have picked up on this from how SMSB base game was run, but I really like the idea of doubling down on stages - perhaps even going for "Everywhere is Here!", regardless of whether the characters who call them home return. (though TBH, like EIH that wouldn't really be much of an accomplishment after Ultimate brought back all except like 7)

I only have the roster welp here it is SMASH LEGACY:
Super Smash Bros Legacy Base Roster.png

Green echos the character above except Tom Nook he takes moves from bot AC Chars!
Also Im not sure if i picked good pokemon i would love to know what you guys think!
Also pacman is the only third Party cus BAMCO makes/Made Smash!
The Default Look that gets the Most recolours is the one seen on the Roster!
Customization in Fat letters are Presets while cursive are small adjustable Parts
If a Character is a Duo or Trio you can play as only one without the Abilty to Switch which gives a Slight Buff Perfect for not only yourself but also to make Dreambattles come true!
And Lastly if youre Unsatisfied with some parts please give suggestions (Especially for franchises i dont know that well!)
Toad
An Example Move: F Smash is Captain Toads Pickaxe
B: Spore Counter (works similar to peaches)
Side B: Cat Scratch (Reflects Projectiles)
Down B: Poison Mushroom Throw (Throws A Poison Mushroom Item has a long cooldown)
Up B: Mini Wingo Flight (unnafected by Back Pack)
Final Smash: Mega Mushroom

Star Hill. Why do you ask?
I only have the roster welp here it is SMASH LEGACY:
View attachment 363709
Alt Costumes: Toadette, Captain Toad, Captain Toadette

Pretty sure Bayonetta is a 3rd party too owned by SEGA so Pac-man isn’t the only one

As Far as i know Bayo Is owned by Platinum Games which was aquired by Nintendo which makes it a second Party Game i think?!
I think i will maybe include nihelego as its the main ultra Beast!

After some thought, I kinda want to redefine my stage selection. I kinda want to start over as some stages are very reversed products.

Returnee stages:
  • Smash 64: Peach's Castle, Dreamland, Sector Z, Saffron City.
  • Smash Melee: Mushroom Kingdom 2, Fountain of Dreams, Yoshi Story, Brinstar.
  • Smash Brawl: Halberd, Skyward, Pirate Ship, Castle Siege.
  • Smash Wii U/3DS: Mario Galaxy, Boxing Ring, Magicant.
  • Smash Ultimate: Great Plateau Tower.
  • New Stages: Water World (SMB3) Grassland Groove (DK) Samus Ship (Metroid) Castle Dedede (Kirby Dreamland) Belch's Factory and Cave of The Past (Earthbound) Cave of Harry Hedgehog (Yoshi's Island)

Way too many characters. That is all.

It's very hard to think of the Ultimate Smash game and then not think of adding every fictional character imaginable.

In a realistic world, I do, in fact, have a feasible roster. Shown below this one would go the reboot route, with redone movesets for practically everbody.

Excluding Echo Fighters

Series not necessarily in order - added series as I recalled them

Mario Series
Mario
Luigi
Wario
Peach
Bowser
Yoshi

Donkey Kong Series
Donkey Kong
King K. Rool

Zelda Series
Link
Zelda
Ganondorf

Metroid Series
Samus
Ridely

Pokémon Series
Pikachu
Lucario
Charizard
Incineroar

Star Fox Series
Fox
Wolf

Fire Emblem Series
Marth
Byleth
Alear

Kirby Series
Kirby
Meta Knight
Kind Dedede

Singular Characters
Pac-Man
Mega Man
Captain Falcon
Mr. Game & Watch
Inkling
Ness
Simon
Olimar
Pit
Cloud
Sonic
R.O.B
