Well that was about the worst-timed "lurk it up and disappear" routine in Kat's career thus far.
I don't think I've seen one worse than that in ever, tbh.

I'm Penelope Widmore. I'm on board The Searcher looking for Desmond Hume and the island. Paraphrased: stuff along the lines of me being a caring and hopeful person who is determined to rescue Desmond.
I'm a line tapper but I can pickup additional info from something called the listening station which I'll get to down below. At Night I can send a signal to someone and learn if they communicated with someone else or not.
N1: Mentos. I didn't get a result here.
N2: Glyph. no communication.
N3: J. there was communication.
N4: EE. no communication.
I pick up additional information passively via a listening station but it's not stated how I get this. I don't know how the mechanics work here.
On N2 Tanny PM'd me flavour indicating that I detected an anomaly. I got that EE was a... protective role.
On N4 I got PM'd the same flavour and that Glyph was a... killing role.
Gonna wait until this mass claim is over but I have a few theories and questions.

That's pretty much my reaction. I had a sinking feeling he might've been town given his "Hey guys, just because Gorf found an Indy doesn't mean he's cleared by the way" post on D2. It just..didn't make sense if the plan was to have Gorf land in LyLo. There's really no rhyme or reason to create mistrust except for the sole purpose of distancing and even then--EVEN THEN--you still had to consider the possibility of him telling the truth.

I'm Sayid Jarrah, Town Vig. Weird thing is, I've been responsible for every kill in the game thus far except for KevinM's. Like, confirmed via PM by Tandora that I was the one who killed them. The only night something weird happened was N3, but I'm going to hold off on the fine details of that until everyone has claimed.
Paraphrased role info: I'm Town Vigilante. I was on flight 815 to LA to meet up with my childhood love, Nadia. I was a communications officer for the Iraqi Republican Guard and a talented torturer. I feel that my past makes me a bad person, especially since I keep having to use my ability to hurt others.

anyway normally i read for funsies. iirc i read RE4 in relation to this game and Red Ruy. he was scum there. he was one of my picks here. actually also I remember reading grammys2 but it ended up being more nostalgic.

She owned a boat called The Searcher I believe, I'll look it up at some point but it's not too important atm. She had men working for her in a listening post that would monitor the oceans for signals, as she was trying to find Desmond after he crashed his boat during a race around the world and stuff. So, that lines up.
HOWEVER - watering hole poison time. So the thing is that there is also a communication station operated by the Others called the Looking Glass. This jammed communications to outside the island, keeping them trapped on the current island, and generally regulated all communications and whether they could travel etc. When the Losties breached this station, there were bad guys there.
HOWEVER - Those bad guys were also very forgettable characters, and I don't want to poison the watering hole too much when flavor is the only basis.
So let's look at Kat. There's the fact that he has stated I'm have a role that is protective in nature, which I will confirm. Despite this... I'm not dead. That's a pretty huge point in his favor. There's another thing to consider, as well. Ryker is the balance to these utterly buttdevastating ??? flips. However, putting all your eggs in one basket, when EVERY SINGLE KILL WILL BE JANNED, is a very, very bad thing. Bad modding, bad design. I expect Tandora to anticipate this. So, Kat gets a random fact about someone's role every night. This is as good of a plan B as it's going to get in balancing a game with this sort of design. Another townie that can learn about someone who may die later and leave no traces of their alignment or role. The every other night factor makes it less of a swingy role as well.
Plus there's the fact that Penny does at one point synch up with the Looking Glass so this could all be one of those janky things where the flavor throws you a curveball on purpose to stop you from relying on it.
I want to know what Kat made the choices he did, though, as well as any theories and questions of his own. Sometime soon I'm going to reread and look at what Kat looks at, and when he looks at it. It's going to be seriously ****in' grating and time-consuming, but it needs to be done to pull his alignment.

However, there is the unfortunate fact that she's, y'know, an Other. But that could be another one of those janky "don't-rely-on-flavorhunting" things, and this one rises organically from the flavor, too. I've leaned mostly town on Joey from late D1 to now from GUT to analysis, so hey, there's that.
