Oh King K. Rool....a character i knew since i was playing DK Land on a Game Boy.
Similar to Ridley i dont really care for him. I can understand why People want him but hes FAR away to be on my Most Wanted list.

If hes in im okay with that. If not i wont miss him.

btw i liked the Tikis from DKC Returns....now please put your weapons down.^^

I really don't think the Blunderbuss would be a problematic addition, but even if Sakurai wants to play it safe, just give K. Rool a hand cannon instead, like the one Kannon uses in DKC2. With a bit of creative liberty, it could still do all of the things the Blunderbuss could, just with fewer Moral Guardians whining about how Billy is going to run off and shoot control-reversing clouds at all of his classmates.

Totally forgot about the hand cannon. That could definitely work.

It also makes me wonder if other Kremling weapons could be incorporated into K. Rool's moveset. There's Klubba's club, Kutlass's... cutlasses, Kleever, Krook's hook etc.

It's a shame that Sakurai may opt for generic options on the standards, aerials and grab game. K. Rool has the potential for a Villager style constant spam of props, but I bet we'll see the best ones on the specials. Nonetheless, super creative moves on the specials can be really fun, and K. Rool has great options for his melee too using his great personality. I'm thinking his "blander" moves would be as if Bowser and Dedede had a baby. Of course the difference between those two and K. Rool is that he can do so much they can't, but K. Rool has tonnes of pure fighting potential.

I really don't have much to say about K. Rool's potential movesets. For the time being I'm more concerned about him getting into the roster period. After that hopefully happens, then I'm all for diving in the moveset discussions.

Then again it's not like we have much else to talk about lately unless Sakurai suddenly posts a DK stage with some sort of cryptic message like with a certain Metroid arena...

To be honest, I don't mind if K. Rool doesn't have the Blunderbuss. That is, as long as pretty much EVERY other part of the DKC series is referenced and he doesn't have a generic heavyweight moveset.

I would definitely exchange the blunderbuss for like, a playing dead special.

If a E10-rated Disney Infinity can give characters a flintlock, blunderbuss, and a six shooter, as well as machine guns for cars, and pistols and shotguns for Lone Ranger enemies, then a T-Rated Smash Bros can give a Komical Kroc a blunderbuss.

I mean, its not like people go around town screaming "HYAHHH!" and swinging a real sword at people for playing Link.

Yes, and it'll function like Jigglypuff's Rest. If you play dead in midair right above somebody, they'll get crushed under K. Rool's weight for massive damage. :troll:

This anticipation is killing me. I wish we'd see a new DK stage or something, just to see which games there will be the most influence from.

Another thought: Would your feelings about K. Rool's chances for Smash Bros. change if he was revealed to be in Mario Kart 8?

I would admittedly keep his chances about the same as Dixie Kong's; I find them both to be even and only one of them will get in.
If he was in Mario Kart 8 however, this would arguably raise his chances. It would show that Nintendo plans to do something with King K. Rool in the future.

I doubt his appearance in that game would actually influence Sakurai's decision on the roster.

However, if K. Rool was able to appear in that sort of thing, that would mean that the character is still alive and present in the minds of Nintendo, and as a result is more likely to be able to appear in the SSB4.

When is E3 again? I don't know if I can wait that long for another character reveal trailer.

Other than shutting up the conspiracy theorists and relevance gits, not really. I mean, people aren't exactly clamoring about how likely Funky is, despite Mario Kart Wii selling like hotcakes.

June 10-12. We'll probably get at most one more newcomer reveal before then.
I do think that there will be another Direct in April since the Gameboy Advance Virtual Console is starting on 3rd April with Advance Wars (at least in Europe, I don't know about America and Japan though). But I don't know who will be shown in April. It could be anyone when I think about it.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a downloadable-only character- Dillon.

The plot thickens. Now I really want to know why they took down the original trilogy from the Wii's VC.
Yeah, this has become quite bizarre. Perhaps they've struck a deal and omitted Rare's logo from the game? I highly doubt that though, but that's really one of the only logical reasons I can see for putting this up, but not the console trilogy. Great news regardless.

I'm sure they'll all make their way back eventually. Those games are too high profile, and the "not having then up because of Kremlings" was petty and stupid as an idea anyway.

I imagine they've come to an understanding with Rare and are slowly reintegrating them, or something.

That's good to know, I'll be sure to purchase it on my 2-DS from e-shop. Now if they would just put back the DKC games on the Wii/Wii U store.

I'm pretty convinced the only reason that they were taken off the VC was because of Returns. Reinforcing the fact that you should buy the new one and not spend money on the originals (which would be way cheaper).

Well if that's the case, the staff are really inconsistent then. Like why wasn't Super Mario 64 taken down before the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2?

IT'S SOMETHING! =P

[posting from work; I need to be quick; XP]
THAT'S gonna be on the virtual console now? :ohwell: It has some nostalgic value, though pretty much the only reason to have gotten it back in the day is if you didn't already have DKC, but I guess it is a good sign for what is to come with older DK/Rare titles.

Sweet. I never played DKL so I'm looking forward to this. Speaking of DKL, doesn't K. Rool have an aerial belly-flop move in this game? That could work perfectly as his Dair.
I believe he did. Was a cheaper boss than his SNES counterpart mostly because of that.

And damn, was hoping what Davidreamcatcha said would be the case. Not because I like DKCR better than the originals (quite the opposite), but to put my mind at ease on the matter even more, but alas.

So guys, it's been a while since our last character reveal, Diddy happened. In fact, it's been roughly a month.

I feel this "wait" for a character reveal points to a newcomer reveal soon. The wait plus the fact Nintendo's current and next financial period end and begin respectively soon (on March 31st/April 1st, like most Japanese companies), I think they'll have a direct to make their investors feel good about their investment and the next year for Nintendo. So a Direct with a newcomer I think is coming. Plus, the Little Mac reveal was 2 months after the Rosalina reveal, and it's been almost 2 months.

This leads me to a conclusion: I think we will get a newcomer revealed in the next 5-12 days.

I think the odds on favorites right now in my opinion (as well as to a degree many other people's opinion) are currently:
1. Palutena
2. Ridley
3. K. Rool
4. Shulk
5. Miis

Given how my #3 pick always gets confirmed (my #3 pick for E3 was Mega Man, my #3 pick for the Rosalina reveal was Rosalina, and my #3 pick for the Little Mac reveal was Little Mac), I think we can expect K. Rool next.

THE STREAK HAS SPOKEN!!!!

I really would love to see this character added, it would be as satisfying as King Dedede's release, and warm my belly like a hot bowl of oatmeal in a wibin as the snow lightly falls and a cat purrs at my leg.

Seriously though, epic opening, I cannot wait to read more and more of this overwheming page.
I think the most unique thing they could do with him, to my brain... at least right now, to my imagination, would be to give him an identity crisis (well, play to his crises) and really play to his chaotic role playing. This could play out a few different ways, perhaps each suit changes his stats slightly (but not his moves). Or, something else. Really, he could be an amaznig character, but I just want him in.

Middle of April is our best bet for a Direct and thusly a newcomer.

I don't think it really has much to do with the financial period ending. The main directs are bimonthly anyway.

And I agree with Welshy that it's more likely we'll see a direct in the middle of April, rather than at the beginning. But regardless of the timing, I'm placing my bets on Takamaru. Ridley and K. Rool seem more like E3 material.

It's possible K. Rool can be revealed in the next Direct, but after Tropical Freeze just came out and they had Diddy's comeback revealed for DK, I doubt they'd have a huge newcomer unveiled in the middle of a random month like April. I'd bet on E3 or later to get the most out of the hype train.

As far as the mystery of the disappearing Country Trilogy, I'd say what we do know is it has nothing to do with Returns, due to the date it happened, and nothing to do with the Kremlings, K. Rool or any licensing issues. That means it's likely a random issue that isn't relevant to Smash Bros. The DKL release mostly is nice to disprove the conspiracy theorists who say Nintendo or Retro is whitewashing Rare characters out of DK's universe.

If by "nice" you mean "helps me sleep at night because it turns out Nintendo isn't secretly trying to destroy everything that made my childhood amazing", then I guess you're right.

Seriously though. WE need some DKL over here! That soundtrack has gone unappreciated for almost two decades now!

To be honest until Returns came out, the Land games are the only DK I had played.

It's a shame they never did anything like those modern stages again in the series, they were some of the most interesting levels. It also is a perfect fit for Donkey Kong, originally based on King Kong, to be scaling buildings and climbing skyscrapers. Although it must be said the series should remain mostly naturalistic in design, I think it' be cool to go in that direction for a world in the next game; just a handful of levels would be more than enough.

It isn't very accurate, nor does it affect his chances.
Itt does effect his chances. K. Rool has more to work with, almost all of which is super evident. Mega Man, Little Mac, and the Villager all had more to work with than say Waluigi, Toad, or Ashley. Compare how the former trio of characters compared to the latter. Oh, and consider the former is more relevant in terms of additions to gameplay and to their respective franchises, just like how K. Rool is more relevant to the DK series than say Tiki, whom you listed. The ball is in your court in regards to proving me inaccurate in terms of gameplay potential, options, and playability.
Well, I'd actually say being able to be unique does add something, but so could everybody else listed plus hundreds of other characters.
Not based on moves and movements and all that jazz from their previous games. You would have to make up a ton of stuff for say Tiki to have anywhere near as much originality as K. Rool, as well as premium move content for a character. That takes a lot of time and requires a lot more money.

Sure, some characters like Captain Falcon get random stuff for sure (Power Rangers). The Villager is centered around random uses of everyday Animal Crossing items. Other characters like Mario and Luigi are inspired by other fighting game characters (Ryu and Ken from Street Fighter). Rosalina is basically Eddie from Guilty Gear. The Wii Fit Trainer has a lot of properties of a Virtual Fighter character. Then there's some characters that are based around concepts: Fox's moveset is basically the moves of an Arwing as a character. ROB is based on the general robot character fighting game concept. The Ice Climbers are a unique take on the ditto dual character concept. Olimar is a interesting spin on the character with followers take.

K. Rool is the classic smash case of a 2D side-scrolling platformer character just fitting in and transferring easily and simply to smash, much like Peach, Bowser, DK, Diddy, Samus, ZSS, Yoshi, Kirby, Meta Knight, Dedede, Mr. G&W, Pit, Wario, and Sonic did before him. Oh, and Mega Man, too. Some of these rank among the best smash playable characters ever, and almost all of these characters have movesets and playstyles that write themselves, much like K. Rool.
You don't understand the possibilities of most of the surprise characters I support.
Just coming in and saying that to someone you don't even know is silly. You don't know my track record. Quite frankly if you did, you wouldn't have said this.
From my time on here, it's seems like there is next to nothing to consider him likely. And he is riding solely on fanbase, which has failed multiple characters in the past.
Apparently Diddy Kong being playable in Brawl and Smash For doesn't count. (if you knew smash speculation, you know that is where this all support started)

K. Rool isn't "riding on his fanbase" at all. He is riding on his unique properties, the fact he's a heavyweight in a light character heavy game (seriously, Link weighs maybe 150 lbs and he's a heavyweight; Charizard weighs not a lot over 100 lbs and its' a heavyweight), his unique abilities and talents, his massive popularity, and his series being massively popular. DKC one of the most recognizable brands in gaming and a franchise Nintendo is leaning more and more on (especially with Zelda series games' sales free falling). DKC is a staple of Nintendo, and K. Rool is a large part of that.
Hate me for saying this, or prove me wrong peacefully with actual reasoning.
You didn't prove anything in this thread. All you said was "no, you're wrong" with absolutely zero evidence based on anything logically or anything clearly described.

Hate me for saying this, or prove me wrong peacefully with actual reasoning.

Oh wow, the above post made me LOL so hard at the one it's replying to. Andimidna, you need a life. Seriously.

Seriously though, it makes me a little more excited that DKL is getting a re-release, even if it means probably nithing for our King.
