Before MLG, it's safe to say that Jason's at least made 15K playing brawl from all the tournaments since its release.

Before Brawl, it's safe to say that Jason has made like at least 15K from all the melee tournaments in the past.

Now, with MLG:

I just realized

M2K is guaranteed the 1st place in standing points at 3600 (He has more standing points than anyone, even if Ally gets first and M2k gets last.

congratulations, jason.

If you win this, you;ll have made well over $22, 500 this year playing smash at MLG.

I believe that means you would now be the most successful smash player of all time.

This guy has DEFINITELY made over $50,000 playing Smash, at least it seems so.

Incredible.

I've made 7k playing Brawl since release, and I'm bad, so I would say M2K has probably made x3 or x4 that.

Congratulations though to Jason, your hard work pays off! I'd be interesting for him to say how much he's made.

i dont think ive made that much lol. I really don't know how much, but a lot of it never got paid to me. Activegamers 2k, Snes 1k, Winterfest 1.5k is all owed to me and idk if I will receive them. Most of my money (or half or so) goes to my family. The rest goes to college and travel expenses to get to other tournaments and I am saving all of it up besides that so that I can have a good future after smash (if smash ever dies which.... imo won't happen for a long, long time).

i have definitely not made 50k lol unfortunately. A lot of big events I got unlucky at. Mlg finals last year was 3k 5k 10k for top 3 and I got 4th and 4th got paid 0 :(

Evo finals was 5k first and top 8 got paid I got 9th at got 0 :(

very unfortunate luck with the biggest events I am sad to say

m2k youve still made the money, regardless of whether you spend it on college, travel, or family

most people your age get jobs and then dont make nearly that amount

you dont have to just be sad about the few events you didnt make money in

Maybe not that much in a day, but his yearly profits versus someone working full time isn't that impressive, especially considering he has to travel around often and there's no such thing as sick days. If you lose, there goes a large chunk of your yearly earnings.

Living off of gaming funds isn't really the "baller" lifestyle.

Now having a job AND winning? Oh hell yes.

If Chu has made over 50,000 in smash (going by that COT4 video thing) then M2K has to have made at least that much.

I heard Ken made like 40k in one year off melee, but thats probs wrong lolol. I do wonder how much he made in his prime though compared to m2k/chu/all the other greats.

Ken won ~25K from MLG alone in 2006.

M2K you have easily already passed the 50K threshold. Keep in mind that isn't 50K PROFIT, which is what I think you are looking at because you talked about a lot of expenses, but including your Melee career you are easily at 50K.

I really should have made those money rankings like I wanted to years ago. I didn't because I don't want any of that stuff out there in case someone gets audited by the IRS.

No. It is your responsibility to pay taxes. MLG just gives ya a check. You have to report your earnings still.

I remember in mid-2008 I asked Jason at Esticle how much he had made at that point from smash and he said 16k...I think. 2 years and countless tournaments later and I imagine he's a few times that now.

Anyone have any idea what some pro's in other games have made?

[EVERYTHING IS NORTH AMERICA ONLY - WE ALL KNOW STARCRAFT IN KOREA IS LIKE A NATIONAL SPORT]

No other fighting game pays as much as Smash does. SF would be second. Then probably MvC from back in the day.

We get a lot now because of MLG. SF, for example at EVO, paid out somewhere between $15,000-$20,000 to their winners (EVO never released official numbers, kinda shady). At one regular MLG event there is $7,000 in prizes. At this years Dallas event there will be $35,000 in prizes for Brawl. If EVO wanted to give out $35,000 in prizes, they would need 3,500 entrants! Heck even Tekken 6 now gets more than SSFIV thanks to MLG.

Though DOA when it was on CGS technically paid the most. It depends on the season, but as little as 6 and as many as IIRC 18 DOA players were getting at min 20k a year. Now I've heard some controversy on whether they were actually given this money in the last year of the league (when the league folded) but they did get it for at least 1 season.

Outside of fighting games, Halo pays the most as a shooter (and as a competitive game in general), with several players making ~40k a year now. Many players make ~20k a year. They are also at a point where players are paid thousands monthly by sponsors, without having to win a tournament.

COD4 also pays a fair amount.

In terms of most winningest Smash player: I think Ken still has a leg up on M2K, but the margin has got to be <10K now. By the end of this year I'd say M2K would have passed Ken. However, if you count Ken's Survivor winnings, then M2K probably still has another 3-5 years before he fully passes Ken as making the most in the Smash community from winnings.

Flash the best current starcraft player just this year made this much :

180,000,000 Korean Won = ~151,343 US Dollars

That doesn't even include his salary.

EVO just tells the players in the money how much they're gonna get.

M2K has to of made more money than Ken by now.

He basically won every melee tourney he attended for a good year and 1/2 or so? He still wins most of the melee tourneys he goes to aside from national ones where he still usually top 3's.

He's also been the top brawl player for 2 years now winning pretty much every tourney he goes to including large national ones.

So basically he's been consistently winning every brawl and melee tourney he goes to (aside from national melee tourneys the last 2 years) since mid/late 2007? That is a **** ton of money cause it seems like the kid goes to at least 2-3 good sized tourneys a month?

All you have to do is go to Tournament Results to get a good idea:

MLG Raleigh: $2500 1st singles + $200 teams
Apex: 3rd melee singles/2nd melee teams -- 1st brawl teams/3rd brawl singles
SCSYN: 1st melee singles (45 person melee tourney)

Those are all within the 1st 6-7 tourney result postings. He had to of made atleast $1000 at apex and $200-300 for SCSYN. So we know hes made atleast $4000 from smash this month alone lol.

EDIT: Yah I dunno why I just did that much research on M2K but w/e. It's 4:40 am I can't sleep and I'm bored.

I don't think survivor counts although that it's by his smash succes that Ken made it on that show.

Regarding the succes of m2k. I can only really say good job man ^^. You've done what most of the community can only dream off. And yet in your post I only see how much money you missed out on at big events and not single mention of fulfillment of what you accomplished. I guess that's what happens when you get this good.

I really think you are overrating what I have gotten, although I would like to believe it. The average month I only make about 1k. Only nationals or sponsored tourneys really help me out

edit - oh wait I guess in 4 years (since 05 I sucked) that would be about 50k I guess you have a point in that regard. As of past 2 years it averages like 1k a year, but the random super big events really help out. Most of it has been spent on college or given to my family. I don't raelly use any on fun, it's all family help and business (college) and travel expenses (which wasted a LOTTTTTTT of money sadly. I wish I had a buddy pass c onnection.

Can anyone hook me up with a buddy pass or airline connection?

This would REALLY, REALLY help me out

Why wouldn't I? I travel so much, if someone could hook me up with that that would help me out TREMENDOUSLY.
buddy passes are described to be for friends and family.

you can actually afford to go. smash makes you money even tho it costs to go. lol how can somebody of your stature not get a sponsor lol?

I would still rather save money waste it
I feel it lol. anyone would honestly.

but its like you saving a little more while being able to go to just about any tourney from perpetual smash earnings vs an average dude who loses 400 at an average tourney.

people looking in would think ur a greaser at first glance lol.

what are you n school for?

Yeah, while I understand "look out for number one," you still gotta remember all the other people that don't share your track record and travel all the time. It's even more expensive for them and they might not turn a profit at all.

What??? You made over $4000 this month alone. We all know you make wayyyy more than 1k a year playing smash lol. With all the MLG's you'll probably make 15k this year alone if you haven't already.

Doesn't matter what you spend your winnings on. You and Ken have by far made the most money playing smash than anyone else in the world. I'm betting you've passed Ken by a good margin now too.
