So you feel uncomfortable by older people because you worry how they will feel when you do better than them? And what does the job, kids, and marriage have to do with your issues?

I've been playing in competitive chess tourneys since 13. Funny though cause I feel young when I play a chess tourneys and super old at smash tourneys even though I've only been playing for like 2 years

I'm pushing 25 and I'm about to have that tri-semester life crisis.

Oh, god. I miss the 90's.

Did you actually go to tourneys consistently when you were 8? Thats pretty cool lol.
Yep, I entered just about every XMvSF and MvC1 tournament in my area and did really well. I had two really good coaches / teammates (who were at least 10 years older than me at the time) who taught me infinites with Wolverine and Charlie and stuff.

Really miss those days. When the person I'd be playing would laugh at the character select screen or say "sorry" before the match starts and then 10 seconds in it becomes my combo video lmao.

Of course I almost always lost to my teammates though.

Yeah that would happen. After a while of playing you get used to a wide variety of playing styles. I want to play :009::014::022::009::019::009: more so I can beat him for that reason. He's a pit main who is around my skill level and we always have really close games. It also helps when you're super versatile. :)

BTW the pokemon talk is simple: :001: is the letter 'A' and :026: is the letter 'Z'. :)

i wanna see more older players.

hopefully i get to see more of the 25-30 crowd at FC. i'm much more interested in their style of play compared to the things we have to deal with now.

meeting flowinwater last week was really cool. more guys like him need to come back and play.

Here's something to think about: How many of us will continue to play Smash Bros. and still be active in the community when we hit our 50s or 60s? This is assuming that

A: Smash Bros. is still around then
B: SWF or even the Smash community is still around then

I don't see how age will prevent me from liking video games. Granted, you're obviously going to get busy with working and perhaps marriage/family, but under most circumstances a person can still play video games, perhaps even take one to a competitive level. People just don't lose time for even a single hobby under almost any situation.

I'm an 18 year old player who jut picked up the game 2 1/2 monthes ago(wave dashing probably 2 monthes ago). I really am hoping there are more people joining the scene like myself. To me melee is just such a great competitive game. I think its ridiculous when people say their too old for this game. Video Games are still a new industry just because it is young doesn't mean its only for younger people. Nothing seems more immature to me then when someone says there too old for something they probably love. So hopefully their is more people like myself that are new to the game and want to keep this community going for as long as possible.

I'm probably not going to continue playing this game fo more than another year or two.

Real life is going to catch up and this is the only video game i play, i wouldn't classify myself as a gamer at all. Haha

In all honesty, I'll probably continue to play Melee for as long as possible. But "as long as possible" is determined by how many CRT TVs stay around. Or until the last Melee disk is broken.

For me, I started going to tournaments at the age of 19-20 and I'm 22 now soon to be 23.

Usually Nintendo gets one of their old games and re-work it to launch in a newer console/handheld. Wouldn't it be awesome if they made something like Super Smash Bros. Melee Deluxe Edition for Wii-U that would include a widescreen support and etc.

Maybe we will see a gamecube virtual console lineup on the Wii U. it still feels kind of early but it could happen.

Amber McCollum of Nintendo said in a 2011 interview that the Wii U will have Gamecube games available on the Wii U's Virtual Console.
Oh I didn't know that, that's good. It would be nice if this gave us slight hope for GC controller compatibility or something.

While I doubt they'd make it compatible with the Gamecube controller, seeing as they confirmed no Gamecube backwards compatibility, I would imagine the games would either be mapped to the Classic controller, or they'll release a "Classic controller II" of sorts, where it resembles a Gamecube controller. That's my theory anyway.

Hoping for that Classic controller 2 of sorts for Sm4sh as well. Besides, It will be pretty weird playing some GC games with a wii remote or something, or even the tablet.

I'm pretty sure arthritis is very painfull, or am I thinking of carpal tunnel sindrome?Either way, I might not want to play anymore at that point. That's Waaaay down the line from now anyways.
Oh, I didn't realize arthritis could affect your wrist lol.

It's kind of surprising how many new players are constantly joining the melee community considering how old it is.

Melee has been gaining a lot of steam lately, but it should not be surprising considering how much fun it is to play competitively (just my opinion). It shocks me that people are saying Melee is dying even though we have been getting so many new players.

Yea, Melee is definitely not dying, I just don't know how much longer it can last considering its been over 10 years now. Just shows how great of a game it is.

Yeah I hope melee continues for a while longer. I may be late on the action, but I hope I can be part of the newer generation to help keep it live and kicking. Great games like these don't deserve to die anytime soon

I'm currently 25, and the oldest Brawl player in NC. It doesn't feel odd, though, because a lot of our players are actually 20+. I've also never backed down from college/work commitments in order to go to a tourney, so I'm not some man-child who needs to "get a life." Video games have come a long way from being seen as "nerdy adolescent toys," and a wider variety of age groups enjoy them these days. Never feel ashamed to be a gamer, especially if you have your priorities in line.
