Everyone should quit brawl and just wait till Smash 4 to start playing again. Most New Gens are 17-22 years old. Smash 4 will be out in the next two years at most.

They might use one of the new captains, and said captain might not be as lovable as Olimar.

Eh. I'm just a bit unnerved to have a new main character.
Olimar's very intelligent and curious, but also has his limits and flaws. As a character, he's very relatable.
I don't know what these new characters are like or if I'd want to play as the one they choose for Smash 4, y'know?

But like RT said, it wouldn't be Pikmin without Olimar. He's probably right. =P

Rock Pikmin sound more like shield breakers, TBH. It'd be pretty sweet if they did like... Jigglypuff pound damage from a hit on-shield.

The writing as Olimar in Pikmin 2 was great. Like, all the descriptions in his journal for stuff he finds? That is brilliant writing, right there. I like Olimar.

Was there that much text in Pikmin 1/2 to really understand who olimar is? Those games seems
Very shallow on character development but deep in exploration and time management.

In the first Pikmin game, much of what he writes and says are just observations of his new environment and his interactions with it. His logs can sometimes be a bit personal (depending on what you encounter that day), and he does start to get a bit... weird as you near the day his life support system will fail. Hopelessness, space madness, etc.
His intelligence and ability to manage an emergency situation really shine in this one, but they also show that he's not just some robot. He's vulnerable to stress and psychological strain the same way we are.

In Pikmin 2, there are 201 items and he comments on all of them. Sometimes it's just a short description of the item or location where he found it, but he often includes personal information and random thoughts. For example:

"When you grow up and get a job, your time doesn't belong to you anymore. To make up for that, you have to learn to appreciate the simple pleasures in life. Looking at this pattern we found today makes me feel a little less miserable. This is today's simple pleasure."

That was his entry for the "Happiness Emblem", a bottlecap.
He seems much more laid-back, probably because he isn't fighting just to survive.
His notes on enemies are much more detailed this time around, too.

He's kind of like Link. He has little grunts, sighs, etc. but doesn't talk.
When you switch from Louie (the second captain) to Olimar in Pikmin 2, someone does say "Olimar" in a tone that kind of sounds similar to that of his grunts, but I don't really know if it's actually Olimar himself saying it.

EDIT: He has a lovely singing voice, BTW.

None taken. I've come to terms with the fact that almost everyone that doesn't play him hates Olimar.
I'd say R.O.B. or I.C.s were definitely worse ideas (like... what did they even DO?), but that's just an opinion.
