As long as there are dorky teenagers who sincerely care about what other people say about video games on the internet, it will never be over!
You understand what smashboards is right? It's generally not geared toward more casual players.

It's for people who like smash SOOOO much, that they're willing to practice at it and play it heavily to become the best at it...

That said, we take the game kinda seriously. Not life-or-death seriously...more like...spend-20+ dollars-and-12-hours-every-other-weekend seriously. That's why some people took offense to some of your comments...even though I feel like you genuinely meant well with what you said.

Haha, well I don't want to troll ALL of you. There are a few good people I've chatted and played with on here, but the problem is, as you said, the board is 99% hardcore. That's fine and all, but casual players DO find their way here when they're looking for places to meet other people who play the game, and telling them to play hard or leave isn't cool. There are alot of players out there who want to just play, MLG rules be damned, and they really don't have anywhere to go. Yeah, you can always say "go make a causal forum", but the fact is, THIS is where you end up when you start googling for smash events. I think we should open up more in this regard.

Let's take it a step further. There are alot of serious players, right? I know certain groups out there have regional rankings and such. Since you're already using a standardized ruleset, why not introduce a ratings system (ELO, Glicko, etc). It would help you establish leagues, which would give players closer matches at tournaments (thus raise interest), aid in the pooling process (as well as serve as a substitute during large events), and allow you to define different "skill ranges" for tournaments. That way, everyone gets sorted into their own groups of hardcore, intermediate, and beginner, and everyone is happy without sacrificing anything. If you want to get really picky, you can even have different skill levels for each ruleset, like one for MLG, another for FFA, another for overall average, etc. The best part is that it would take very little effort to implement. Tournament results are already reported here, so just authorize the TO to submit the results in a form, which will run it through a script of your choice.

Now that's helpful.

I only see one dorky kid here. :urg:
Nice Mandark sig!

Sleek, come to Bolts event on the 8th and get re introduced to fun with competitive rules~!
I like your attitude. What is this event?

It's no small drive, but I'll consider it. I'm more interested in the smashfest TBH.

Unless you find your own way there, but i'm not picking you up from bristow

I'm having a lot of sleeping problems lately and i need very specific sleeping conditions, is the reason.

Sleek Media, I also recommend you go to bolts. There will be plenty of time for friendlies there as well.

a large comfortable bed can be available if you really need it Tant. I have a guest room and nobody will be using it, clean and everything.

everyone else will be sleeping on sofas + sleeping bags or whatever.

and the people who come will be practicing all night so you'll definitely find yourself at a huge disadvantage if you don't join us :p

but it's your call.

I heard Chu Dat sometimes doesn't pay his own entry fee, takes money from the pot, and profits from the "electricity fee." He charges people money for housing them. These are the things that deter people away from his tournaments. I was in Falls Church one time during his biweeklies, but didn't go because if this.

the community here doesnt grow because the people in it expect a $5 venue fee and like 20 setups for 12 hours straight..... which would be optimal, but when a tournament doesn't meet these expectations then they are bashed and brutalized for any reason people can find. im not gonna pretend i know about brawl tourneys in this area but i know locals get like 20-30 people max and the threads are hotbeds for people talking **** about the tournament, and half the people don't even go. it doesnt seem to be about the game, it's more about a "comfortable, cheap time" every weekend.

i know lil B's 5/5/5 tourneys got lots of popularity and was a great way to attract people, unfortunately this became the "standard" and if it wasn't 5/5/5 then there was something wrong with it and people wouldn't go.

my point is that people should be more supportive of all tournaments in the area, if they truly care about brawl, anyway. there will be 1 tourney in a month, and it'll get bashed and lose attendance, when its the only 1 around!

You "heard"...
It's like $3 venue and $5 for singles. That's like $8 bucks where some tourneys charge $10 for both. Idk why you are complaining.

I pretty much agree. I don't know why people get angry when they see a $10 venue fee like it's a crime. $5 is awesome but shouldn't be expected. You should thank the people who have such a low venue fee not bash the people who have a $10 one

ayo GIMR and VGBC can you guys stop cutting in on my **** without giving me some kind of ****ing warning.

I was supposed to stream SiiS4 (and pretty much every SiiS tourney because I was always going to them all) and then you douchebags come and snake that **** from under me for no ****ing reason....nobody even knew you were going.

Day said she thought I worked for you guys....Thats not true at all..I'm not under any contract and I will commentate any tournament regardless of who streams it as long as their is some hype **** going on.

for real though...that **** is annoying...yall ran me out of streaming MD/VA events and now out of Ohio?

Why the big deal with venue fee this and that? If you're a bunch of broke kids who don't work, just invite a few people to your parents house once in a while. There's too much of an emphasis on money with you guys to begin with. Don't any of you go to schools with activity rooms or something?

LMAO KORN!

I was and then they ****ed me over as they have with a couple of the tournaments in MD/VA

it's why I don't Stream anything anymore around here...got oversaturated

Me and tant had a nice system going on for a little bit where he would use his laptop for TOing and I would use mine for Streaming

I wanted to stream SiiS because thats Like MY tourney setting...I'm going to like every one she has so I figured I'd be the primary streamer...and I want to get vids up on my youtube channel of more good matches.

And they should get sub $10 venue fees. (even $8 looks a lot better than $10, and that $2 is lunch). I still hold the belief that all TO's can provide a comfortable and relatively inexpensive time. And Brandon's tourneys were never 5/5/5 they were 5/10/10. There is never and will never be a reason to charge $10. There are plenty of venues in the beltway area, people just need to know where to look (i.e. not lan centers and malls).

I pretty much agree. I don't know why people get angry when they see a $10 venue fee like it's a crime. $5 is awesome but shouldn't be expected. You should thank the people who have such a low venue fee not bash the people who have a $10 one
And why not? Every TO is perfectly capable of running sub $10 venue fee locals and still profit. If Brandon didn't quite and I didn't move to NY we would still be holding them.

If you are gonna charge $10 you need to give more of a reason besides just breathing the venue's air. Gamepad was smart when they offered pretty much free lunch (in coupons) for all attendants making the $10 well worth it. Xanadu was never worth it, the only thing they had going for them was that it was a regional and that was only the first one.

It's hard to expect the local community to grow in size when you don't cater to those with limitations. There is a huge local community in the beltway area that never make it out because of location and price. We changed the "standard" now other TO's need to step up and meet that standard.

All I know is I got bank from that five guys tourney

I ran it for the money mostly, I used care about the community having a lower venue fees, but that wasn't even the half of it. But my second tourney I didn't make as much money still made quite a bit. That's why I stopped running events cuz I didn't get as much money and finding venues is a one shot deal if you want them for free/cheap(under $100) that's why I stopped

but I have a job now so I am done with trying to make money from running tourneys
