Geno or no Geno, I am looking forward at seeing at what he's cooking up this time.

That's the spirit! :b:

At least this way chances of seeing wants would be much easier, even if new series won't get any stages once the 108 total is filled up.

I didn't even know who Radical Rex was; he seems so goofy :p

If we're talking goofy characters, I'd have to say Rumble McSkirmish from Gravity Falls. Originates from a video game... that's in a TV show. Would be hilarious if they included him as an echo of Ryu.

For the record I'd be okay with Boogerman, since Smash is no stranger to potty humor. :ultwario:

Granted, his Kickstarter revival never got off the ground, so his chances are still absurdly low short of Interplay deciding to ask Nintendo directly (and even then it would be for Jim, who I'm vouching for).

James Bond was actually considered for either Melee or Brawl iirc.
Haha, that's why I put him on there. I was about to put John Wick as his echo fighter, but they're from completely different franchises so it wouldn't make sense, so I decided to do a "Sakurai" and say that his rights are too insane to get.

My lord, trying to get John Wick in Smash would be even more difficult than trying to get Geno in Smash...

Bit late to the thread, but my favourite Mario games are (in order)

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 (They're both masterpieces imo haha)
Super Mario 64
New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Outside of the MOTHER and Mario discussions, if Geno didn't get in, who would your favourite of the other Six Squares be?
My top 5 favorite Mario games in order:

5. Super Mario Galaxy 2
4. Super Mario World
3. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
2. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
1. Super Mario 64

Out of the six other Square characters besides Geno? I would want Sephiroth.

Alright, I know the obscure character thing is getting old, but I still have a few ideas:

The Kid from Bastion. Definitely not requested often despite having lots of moveset potential.

Michael Jackson from Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. I just thought it'd be pretty funny.

Stanley from the Stanley Parable. Just a wacky suggestion.

Any mention of Polybius in Smash would be crazy imo. Cultural references in video games are always cool imo.

Dark Lord from Miitopia. All-around derpy character.

Bakugo from My Hero Academia, though I'd be lying if I said I'd be mad at his inclusion (he's my favorite character in the show).

The Tetris block suggestion still baffles me.

A Mii that just combines elements from Wii Sports.

Thanos to promote the Avengers game.

A literal Switch as a playable character. Or better yet, a virtual boy.

As well as realistic guns and using a realistic face. He wasn't fantasy-like enough.

Basically, it wasn't just his origins, but Sakurai doesn't want characters beating up what looks like real people. Combined with tons of licensing issues and realistic guns with realistic bullets, and you have someone very unfeasible.
"Sakurai doesn't want characters beating up what looks like real people."

Then... Why are we beating up Solid Snake? He is the most realistic looking person we have in Smash, and he gets beat up all the time. There are quite a few characters in Smash that look like real people, too. xD

Simon looks like some surfer I used to hang with years ago.
Richter looks like an old high school friend of mine.
Little Mac looks like another old high school friend of mine who played wrestling.
Bayonetta looks like my ex.
Cloud looks like an old friend of mine from long ago.

It's like... it's like I'm beating up old pals of mine... uh, yikes.
Outside of the MOTHER and Mario discussions, if Geno didn't get in, who would your favourite of the other Six Squares be?
Sephiroth or Crono. If Black Mage was on that list, I'd so go for her/him over Crono and Sephiroth.
He's basically confirmed because you made up some dialogue? That doesn't align at all with Nintendo selecting the characters, and them all supposedly being unexpected.

"Sakurai wants him in", but he still somehow isn't in some 70 characters later, and they elected a generic piranha plant over him.
Well Piranha Plant is first-party, so he's easier to get than third-party. We still needed a "WTF" character, so he chose Piranha Plant for that one. Oh yeah, and I like Piranha Plant! I think he's adorable. :)

They're all cartoony and does not use the likeness of an actor. James Bond is literally based upon the real actor. Not loosely, directly. None of those are meant to be hard based upon a real person. Not the same thing.

The most obscure character possible? Not sure if someone else mentioned it yet but.....

Imagine that thing being the sega rep.

As a side note, I wonder why we still don't have an Airship Fortress stage. Hell, we even have the music, and the ships would make a lot of sense and an interesting option as a stage, with cannon balls and fire cannons all over the place as hazards.
Ok, back to the topic...

Speaking of Bakugo, I was actually VERY close to putting Izuku Midoriya as the 79th character on my list.

Gosh, I'd love to beat the **** out of Bakugo. He's one of my least favorite characters in MHA because he's so mean and rude to everyone all the time.

Most obscure character? Hmm, I’d say Doshin the Giant. Joined his support thread a while back, and honestly, would love to see him playable.

Of course. Obscure games aren't easy to remember. I do have links in my sig to the series thread and the Brian support thread. Contribute if you wish.

I merged your posts, since you clearly noticed the error, it's all good. Keep in mind with double posting, accidents happen. We always appreciate it when a user asks for a merge or acknowledges the error. Nobody's perfect. And some don't bother to try and follow the rules.

What’s funny is I actually wouldn’t mind brian if it got a revival for the series... the first game had so many good ideas but was held back by a few very bad ones like its super linear point a to point b progression, and 0 side quests/mini games. That and FF7 had just been released the year before, and oot was about to release, so no way could it compete against those juggernauts.

But Had a sequel come out addressing the issues of the first game, and fleshing out a few of the other good features, we could have had a long running series...

Side note; one of the games I’ve been recently replaying, surprised the battery in the n64 memory pak still works. Trying to beat it before it dies since I definitely don’t want to restart it again

Actually, I'd like a revival before he got in too. Mostly cause it would also give him a new model to work with, updated music, and possibly ideas for new spells.

Also, the issue wasn't so much linear progression, it's more that there were no maps for the dungeons and they were super confusing. You don't need mini-games for a serviceable rpg. But you do need balance. This isn't Dragon Warrior 1, which as good as it is, needed improvements. The Gameboy remakes updated it well.

It got a small mini-game in the Gameboy remake, a lottery you can use. I also can't think of many useful mini-games within the system. If you add a monetary system, sure. But beyond the lottery? Not much else stands out. It also had actual side areas. I also felt the linear progression worked fine, it just could use more story overall to make the lore interesting. Likewise, being able to sort items...

Geno Family, How are things?

Haven't been on in awhile since the game has been out as well as going through Persona 5 again (Look at this Kirby with the Mask!)

We still have hope for our Wooden Boy?

Yeah the no map issue definitely was bad, any cave, forest, dungeon etc, i entered, i had to make absolutely sure I kept note of which direction i was facing when it started, or kept a close watch on the compass, so that after the fight was over, or I escaped, I knew which way to keep going. When I first played I got lost so many times because I got disoriented after every battle and might accidentally backtrack.

I still wish it would have had some small side quests or something, that way there’d also be more of a use for the wings you got in each town. If after completing something for someone, you had to go back to collect a reward. I also feel no money system was another issue, one that a remake/sequel/revival could fix.

I never played the gbc version, i had heard it did supposedly fix some complaints people had with the n64 one, but one of the things I did enjoy about the n64 one was the landscapes/overall world, they had a certain beauty to em even though they were simple. I don’t think the gbc version could capture that.

GBC version doesn't do a bad job, admittedly. It actually is really faithful to the designs of the landscapes. You get the same charm. The monsters... not as much. I won't sugarcoat it. Some look bad. The Goblins look more like Native Americans than actual Goblins. Treant looks like a completely different kind of plants, and has way too many leaves. It no longer looks like a ghostly trunk with dying leaves. It at least has two faces.

Notably there's some nice ripped maps of QRPG online. 64? Not so much. How can you properly map out Brannoch Castle and Mammon's World anyway? Rest need it, but not those two.

It also doesn't have pictures of the actual items, so it's kind of a pain. It's got more story, but eh. Regardless, this is getting a bit off-topic. I suggest taking it to the Nintenzone or either thread I mentioned from my sig. It'd be more on-topic there.

Can someone please just make a challenger approaching screen of Ben Shapiro that says "Ben Shapiro DESTROYS the competition"?

I know that has nothing to do with this thread I'd just really like to see someone make it.

I can't think of any super obscure characters I've ever wanted for past Smash games or this one. I've generally tried to be realistic to some extent when it comes to characters I'd like to see in Smash.

if anything Geno probably IS the most obscure character that'd I'd want in Smash. :ohwell:

You know, i'm still feeling pestimistic about Geno's chances, but i realised something: even if he doesn't get in, we must campaign for him nonetheless (for the next DLC/game). If we keep doing this for years, maybe our persistence will be finally rewarded. I don't think people could discredit the dedication of this fanbase at that point.

Also, i feel we should campaign to make Geno appear in Mario spin-offs or, dare i say it, SMRPG2, but i feel this would be much harder given Square's attitude.

Ooh, someone brought up Little Samson earlier, that's a cracking good game. I honestly wonder if they'd age him and Kikira up slightly for an updated design.

I doubt that would stop them! It's not hard to imagine they would add alternate screens for more stages.

Well, I'm just saying, because it'd be bleeding weird for them to go past 108, since it's a number that has cultural meaning for their country. :p

But yeah, good point.

Unlike with Isaac/GS fans, Smash really is the only option at this time. Luckily, that'll be easier to do now. :ultkrool:

As confirmed in the Square thread, Tansut, the guy who leaked Cloud for Sm4sh, has also claimed certainty that the Square rep for this Fighter's Pass is Erdrick. With this info, I'm doubting Erdrick is leakbait now.

That being said, given what Fatman has relayed to us, my hopes for Geno haven't diminished much with this info. I already didn't think he'd be in this first pass, and with what Fatman said, Erdrick doesn't even really stand on equal ground with Geno anyway. Again, my hopes lie with misc. DLC or a second pass when it comes to Geno, as they have been for a while.

I also still highly recommend that we fight for a SMRPG revival as a whole. It might seem impossible, but really, we've been gunning for the impossible for years. I see nothing wasteful out of campaigning for a return to form outside of Smash. Square's attitude may seem very daunting, I agree, but it never hurts to try. I'm ready to fight.

He'll receive a visit from the Nintendo ninjas soon, if it's accurate, unless it's his source(s) taking that hit.

Though this may lead to my actual DQ wants in the future, so I'm fine with the reveal. I just wish people would stop spoiling things so that surprises can happen a lot more often (:ultrichter: was actually more shocking to me than :ultsimon: for this reason).

I mean, consider the following: Mario and Luigi has remakes. So I hardly see why there wouldn't be any reason for SMRPG to have one, especially since it was never brought over to the 3DS VC.

I won't believe him until the Nintendo ninjas hunt him down , and that Square Enix just blew up his house.

Yeah , he leaked Cloud. Like , 2/3 days before the reveal? And now , he's leaking a even harder character to leak months before his reveal? Doesn't that sound... Fishy? Not saying it's Geno , but how did he got this kind of info so early when nobody guessed Joker , who also was third party?

This is not against you , but when something sound disapointing , people will believe it more than what they want sometimes.

If Erdrick get in ... Get ready for the backslash. Also the "lol anime swordman got in before edgy japanese pinocchio" but hey , I'm kinda used to it at this point.

Gosh I still don't know why this hype cycle was so toxic towards newcomers...
