I don't think it's a matter of crying out for a character. Did anyone cry out for Corrin? For Bayonetta? Hell even for Cloud when the belief back then was that it was an impossible thing? Nobody cried out loud the names of any of the DLC we got on Smash 4, I don't see why it should be a factor of choice for nintendo this time with Ultimate.
No, but as stated Corrin was a character who was there to advertise FE.
Apparently Bayonetta was the #1 Ballot Pick in Europe, as evidenced in her reveal trailer.
In the interview with Sakurai and Nomura, Sakurai specifically states he got several requests to include a Final Fantasy character, and iirc, he chose Cloud to represent the series as a whole. Also he was saying near the end of the DLC cycle that it would be "nothing but fan service" from there on out. (After Lucas, Mewtwo, Roy, and i think Ryu?)
Most of the names of DLC in smash 4 were actually already in development before the ballot. But now we have it, and they've been using it. He states that several times.
I also think the Geno costume was Sakurai's way of proving that Geno would sell as a full fledged character. Think of it as a gentleman's bet and, based on the evidence, it's very likely that a good number of the Mii costumes were actually market research. The Mii costume was likely a chance for Sakurai to prove that Geno wasn't a literal who which is likely why the door was slammed in Sakurai's face for Brawl. Square needed hard data to show that Geno would sell Amiibo and/or DLC and this was Sakurai's gambit. Based on the fact that Geno's already in Ultimate while a number of other third party references are just flat out gone bodes well.
^^^^^^^
Also looking at 3rd party Mii Costumes that HAVE made their way so smash and 1st party Mii Costumes being included, this makes so much sense.
I never claimed there to be more active requests for the character than Genk. But active requests aren't always what get the companies' blessings.
Before Cloud was inducted, you didn't commonly hear requests for him. But now that he's here, he made a splash and had people hoping for his return in spades.
Sonetimes the character people ask for, isn't the one that's going to sell consistently over the greatest girth of time. Plain and simple.
I didn't say you did. But Sakurai mentions multiple times they are really referring to the ballot this time around. Also given the pattern for characters making it in, I see fan demand and requests playing a huge role. As I stated earlier, Sakurai himself said Cloud got a lot of requests. I'm assuming this is before the ballot, but he said so nonetheless. True, look at Waluigi. Companies don't always grant the wishes of the people. Look at Isaac. However, everyone that Sakurai has personally wanted in Smash, has made it in. So I think points are more in Geno's favor.
say Geno gets picked, but who says that he'll be as big a consistent seller as Sephiroth? Just a bit of food for thought.
Of course, I wouldn't know. But based on Smash speculation, Smash news, looking at articles online (seriously even Red Bull and Arby's mention Geno), even all the fake leaks with Geno in them, I think it's unlikely that he would potentially undersell Sephiroth.
"Canonical" is a debatable term to address Dissidia with. Not to mention that Sephiroth's sword has fluctuated in size just as much as Ridley has.
I would concede that to you, if Nomura didn't do all the character designs for Dissidia. There's no way Nomura wouldn't know the exact measurements of a character he himself designed initially, and then returned to update that design. And a design from that very game, canon or not, was used in Smash for Cloud.
Thank goodness I never said such in the first place.
Your words:
["That's assuming that appearance includes the weaponry. And there's nothing in there suggesting he wouldn't change the
weapon size to match its original size, especially since he did something similar with Ridley."]
and again:
["It's literally that easy to adapt Masamune for Smash with its
original size and we have more reason to believe that Sakurai would do that as opposed to not opting for such a solution."]
Either I misinterpreted that, or you did say it lol
Oh we're not going down this road, please. Sephiroth is not characterized by that massive sword. That's right up there with the "Ridley is too big" bull trend before Ultimate laid it to rest.
When the game that's actually confirmed canon(as of the remake, the extra baggage of the FFVII compilation isn't regarded as such anymore) has it at a more at a more manageable size, yeah it is.
Also, who's really going to raise a stink about his sword still being long, but not super long? Casual fans likely wouldn't notice nor really care since arguably they wouldn't really dive into the expanded universe, and core fans majority speaking, don't care for the FFVII compilation and would know that his sword actually was more manageable in the original game, so no one in massive majority is really going to cry foul at that.
lmaoooo what let's not act like Sephiroth is completely super unique outside of Murasame. That's like...if Mario didn't have the mustache. Sephiroth has a really long sword. In game, he's the only one who can use it. It's special.
And technically yes, Ridley was too big. Sakurai had to scale him down to make him fit in the game. Thats a fact. Look at Ridley in Smash 4 and look at Ridley in Ultimate. Sakurai likes to keep the essence of characters which is why Ridley wasn't in 4. All I'm saying is that it's Sakurai's preference, not that he wouldn't do it.
No one would really raise a stink, it's just a sword that long is really concerning for "Sephiroth is gonna be broken" reasons, and the team would have to do more work to make sure he's balanced properly. Casual fans likely wouldn't care as long as the character isn't broken and is fun to play, but we just went over how Sakurai is very detailed when he makes characters. I just see it as more work for the team, when Geno would not be the case. (gotta bring it back to Geno!)
I think the fact that we pretty much got told by Sakurai during the November direct, stuff pertaining to such, is info enough.
Nooooo idea what you mean, but okay.
