Has anyone else pointed out that SMRPG is the only game with Spirits in Ultimate without music? Notable songs: Mach Rider, Golden Sun, even Baten Kaitos, Monster Hunter, Dillon, Wonderful 101. Most of these are returning from the past games, but Beware Forest Maze still isnt in...

I don't know, do other third parties count?

Another thing that makes me really confident about Geno being DLC

Yeah, honestly more proof of Geno for DLC. they're undoubtedly saving Beware The Forests Mushrooms (and a few other musical gems from the game too) for DLC.

I dunno. Smash speculation has been almost half my life so, who am I kidding? I'll be in a retirement home when Smash 12 comes out and probably flatline when Geno's revealed as the 132nd Newcomer of the series.

I don't think he is that far off:laugh:. You know, I imagine that if Geno were to be revealed, many of the old Smashboard Geno supporters are likely to resurface and join in. That seems to be a trend with that sort of thing.

Honestly, I think the Grinch leak is one of the best things to happen for a lot of the characters on it. It may have been disappointing that the leak was fake, but I think it sent a clear message to Nintendo that those characters are very much wanted. If their was any discussion about who to pick from Square while the Grinch leak was spreading, or afterward even, I think it definitely would have been taken into consideration.
Yeah, I'm absolutely not denying that Nintendo saw the leak, especially considering there was that one leak that supposedly "ruffled some feathers". IMO it was the Grinch leak and it "ruffled feathers" because it was setting our expectations way too high for the final direct.

The problem with the leak that "ruffled feathers" is that Tansut heavily implied that it was Square who was ticked off about it.

It may have just been an internal leak.

Not exactly sure, it may not mean anything.

but Baten Kaitos, Mach Rider, Golden Sun, and Monster Hunter in particular jumped at me. Especially MH. I thought it was interesting how what was just a couple Mii Costumes last game turned into an AT, a Boss WITH music? Remember fighters get a stage and music, and our arguements that music that may already be in there could potentially deconfirm...

Oh, well then who knows, maybe if that's what Tansut meant maybe it was an internal leak?

Interesting observation, but I don't believe Rayman or Shantae have music tracks in, yet they are Spirits. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

If I recall correctly Shovel Knight doesn’t even have any music and he’s an Assist trophy while Rayman and Shantae are spirits

They could be DLC as well
That'd be cool, but Shovel Kinght is also a Spirit. That'd mean he'd have to be DLC even though he is a AT trophy too. And based on what PolarPanda has said, AT getting upgraded as fighters likely won't be happening in Season 1.

Oh yeah huh. LMAO

Well Zack said they can be DLC as well, additionally they don't show up as AT's either.

tbh it probably means nothing

There's a lot but significantly less than the Spirits. They were leaked too and it's probably 200-300. It's notable that Geno is one but Mallow isn't.

I'm guessing our DLC will likely be from this list

Combining this to the hints we already have, it certainly adds more weight to his chances of being DLC. Interesting observation.

Jeez.. just under 30 pages until we pass the Brawl thread in size. This is absolutely crazy.

What is your favorite memory regarding Smash Bros.? Anything.
One that sticks out to me was the launch day for Smash Bros. for Wii U. It was a cold Friday, and I had a plan to spend the entire night playing the game with friends once it came in the mail that day. We had the basement to ourselves, so I was able to set chairs up and hook up the Wii U to the back of the TV. The only TV I had ever used for Smash before I bought a new one was an old Sony CRT that weighed a ton, so getting behind it was a real effort, but it was worth it.

Something like this was about right:

Even though we were locked at 720p, it was amazing the first time we turned on the game. It looked so clean compared to Brawl. We tried to unlock as many characters as we could before my friends had to leave, but learning the game with everyone at the same time was such a good experience. Hopefully Ultimate will bring a similar feeling next week.

I noticed that. It also seems like every assist got one as well. Something I found rather interesting is that the final 5 was basically an "unformatted" section that included out of left field icons, including Shantae.

This one's hard for me, but I think just getting Smash 3DS for the first time in Christmas 2016 was super great! I hadn't really played any other Smash games then Brawl and like 64 once, so it was great finally getting more into the series!
Honestly, this is pretty simple, but another memory I like that I have with it is just the fact I was able to take it with me wherever I felt and would play it in my family van but also out in public as well lol. It's honestly a really great on-the-go Smash experience!

For me, it was playing Brawl for the first time. My best friend and I were starting our first year in college at different schools. When Brawl came out, my friend came down one weekend and we proceeded to play through Subspace overnight into the morning. I had work the next day, had no sleep and nearly dropped several things at work...It was all worth it!

I've been wondering if Square's current financial trouble could influence this DLC and future waves (maybe more Square characters in te future to raise cash quickly)... Also I've been wondering how this can affect a possible SMRPG Remake or Sequel.
Have any of you ever thought about this?

Kingdom Hearts 3 is right around the corner, Square will be back to status quo in a matter of time.

Geno getting in would certainly drive interest in him and his origin. If you don't believe me look at :ultrichter:, who's probably the most unknown newcomer and yet among the most popular. People get interested in things unfamiliar to them, and Geno certainly has enough potential to win people over in many ways.

I think, if Geno makes it in, his success would determine future games and/or partnerships with Nintendo. I could see this playing out a few ways.

For example, if Square is really pressed for money, they might choose DQ because its a legendary franchise and can ride off the coattails of DQ11

OR, knowing how high fan demand is for Geno in both East and West, I can see them agreeing to put him in, and start to try developing Switch titles featuring Geno or potentially taking on Mario RPG's to translate Geno's popularity and hype into a franchise or series to capitalize on.

Looking at what Smash did for Fire Emblem, Earthbound, and as mentioned above, Richter, I can see that being a plausible option

My favorite memory would have to be my first. When I was really young, I went to my best friend's birthday party in one of those indoor playgrounds. There was a setup with an N64 in the corner and I saw someone playing it. I was a Playstation baby growing up so Nintendo was kinda unknown to me outside of Mario and Pokemon. Out of curiosity, I approached him to see what he was playing. It was Smash (obviously) and he made it to Master Hand as Kirby, but ended up losing. He noticed that I was watching and he was done playing anyway, so he told me, "if you're gonna play, pick Kirby! He's really powerful and can copy other people's powers!". He gave me the controller and went on his way. I heeded his advice and played Kirby, and I honestly did pretty well for someone who had literally never touched Smash, let alone an N64 controller in their life. I met the same fate, made it to Master Hand and died. He was just too hard!

Fast forward a few years later, I was able to purchase a Smash game for myself, Melee was out, so I went with that. My aunt already gifted me a Gamecube the year prior. Did the same thing: picked Kirby, and played the Adventure Mode up until the end.

Since then, it's become sort of an accidental tradition of mine to pick Kirby as my very first character in a new Smash game and play its respective Adventure Mode. Kirby just happened to be one of the two characters you can start out with in Subspace Emissary. When Smash 4 came around, I noticed my Kirby habit and purposefully played him first (on Classic mode because 4 doesn't have a real adventure mode. Boo.). It's pretty fitting for me that Kirby will be the first character you can even use in World of Light.

Yeah, you guys are right! But the problem is that FF, DQ and KH are big game: They are veeery expensive to develop and take years until they are 100% ready to be sold. Now, considering that in 2 years Square released FF15, DQ11 and KH3, we can assume that none of these games will bring cash to Square for the next few years (it will now, but no so much in the next years), while we also know that any game with "Mario" in the title prints money! And we can safely assume that a DLC for Smash too, especially considering how the cost of developing it is low compared to an full AAA game (and probably Square would have no costs of production since it's Sakurai or Nintendo that would produce the DLC). Now imagine how profitable it's (revenue over cost).
I don't know, it just seems like it's more profitable for Square to let any and every character join Smash than make games themselves. LoL
what a stupid conclusion

My favorite memory is beginning to play Brawl. I hadn't really played video games before that, so I didn't know who any of the characters were lol. I picked Ike, and to this day, he is my favorite Smash bros character, even though I'm not the best with him. Seeing Ness in Brawl also made me wonder where he originated from, and then I found Earthbound, my very first RPG. It is so different from other RPGs, it has such a quirky nature, dialogue, humor, and pretty dark lol. After playing this, I played Earthbound Beginnings (and I really want Ninten in Smash lol), another one of my favorite video games. Playing more RPGs led me to Super Mario RPG, my second favorite game of all time. I loved the story, the characters, the settings, everything about it. I especially loved Mallow's character, even more so than Geno. Then, when Ultimate came along, I watched a video where the person said they thought it was finally time to have Geno in Smash, and I was like....wut? This lead me to TerminalMontage TerminalMontage 's Geno video, and after watching it it was simple: HE'S IN. Geno will be my favorite character if he joins Smash :) I then played Mother 3 (the fan translation at least), and this is my absolute favorite game of all time. Even if Ultimate includes both Geno and Ninten, Mother 3 will always be my favorite game. I just need it be remade or localized for the Switch!! All these RPGs are also why Ness and Lucas are my 2nd and 3rd favorite Smash characters :)

I can't wait for Smash Ultimate, and all this came from playing Super Smash Bros Brawl. It will always be such a nostalgic game, the first video game I ever played

Wow it's been a wild ride over the past multitude of pages... as far as some of the more fun discussion points, i'll throw my hat in:

Reason behind mains: it is a combination of both enjoying the character and their playstyle. the only one where i liked the character cut couldn't get used to was megaman unfortunately.

Favorite Pie: would have to go to french silk, but my wife makes an amazing blueberry pie... it's hard to decide between the two.

Favorite memory regarding smash bros.: Probably the day I realized that this game series had a dedicated competitive scene. It was so cool to watch the melee documentary, learn from my friends how to wavedash, and explore the possibilities in smash 4, I even went to and ran a couple of tournaments. It's you all who make this game so fun to play, and I'm so glad to have another round at it with everyone when Ultimate comes out.

sheesh, still about 100 people lingering on this page at this hour, I guess withit being the final 8 days here that we are all pent up on excitement. I'm not gonna lie, it'll be a tad sad to see most of it go away when the game comes out initially, granted, i'll be spending far more time playing the game than lurking here, lol.

Same guy (to my knowledge) just claimed that Isaac and Waluigi have a good shot for potential Wave 2 DLC as both caused a lot of backlash within the inner confines of Nintendo (not sure if I believe this, just spreading what I heard over on GameFAQS)

Don't believe that Gamefaqs thread, he claimed no such thing.

We don't even know if there IS going to be a Wave 2.

Gamefaqs just likes to spread lies and fake news

To me, it sounds like he certainly said that as pure speculation, but Gamefaqs conveniently left off/misinterpreted that bit. He’s been adamant that Wave 2 isn’t set in stone yet, and he’s likely said that if one happens, those two would likely be prime candidates.
