Decided to look into it and the odds of all the maintenance being for Age of Calamity is very unlikely. Here are comparisons with the weeks of other major releases this year:

Animal Crossing: New Horizons: https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-maintenance-schedule-march-15-2020/

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition: No maintenance

Paper Mario: the Origami King: No maintenance

Super Mario 3D All Stars: https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-maintenance-schedule-september-13-2020/

Pikmin 3 Deluxe: No maintenance

So, going back to a post I made last week, online maintenance is very weakly correlated with new game releases but very strongly correlated with new game announcements.

Add in: my post last week about the correlation between presentations and online maintenance as reference:

The maintenances tomorrow are at least half eshop/PayPal related correct? I dont see them announcing a new game this week as it would detract from the momentum of AoC. I acknowledge there is a fair amount of business these last 4 or 5 days and going into this upcoming week, but I still am left wanting more from your train of thought.

You'd think that but the September partner showcase was the day before Mario 3D All Stars, the March indie Direct was the week of Animal Crossing New Horizons, the July partner showcase was the Monday after the Origami King, the October partner showcase was the week of Pikmin 3 Deluxe, etc. Nintendo doing presentations literally days before or after major releases is weirdly common.

Add in: huh, ain't that a hoot? The June Pokemon Direct was literally the day Isle of Armor released.

At bare minimum, it all but implies the next few days we'll be getting some noteworthy announcements besides additional posts on Nintendo's social media for Age of Chewbacca

And people always say "They dont announce stuff when there are releases!! One will overshadow the other!!!" and that just isn't how it works at all.

I definitely get the logic of it but I also think people forget how strong Nintendo's IPs are a lot of times. Zelda is definitely a gaming juggernaut and if Xenoblade Chronicles DE was close to ball tapping 2 million by the end of October, I think Age of Calamity will be perfectly okay. No official numbers have ever been put out but Koei Tecmo bragged about shipping a million copies of the Wii U version, a system that Nintendo itself has openly made fun of the sales figures for, so it's effortlessly going to be a million seller on Switch. It's Zelda. It's a holiday title. It's technically a prequel to the best selling Zelda game of all time. Let's just say the bar for the most basic of success is set extremely low and no amount of news would derail that.

That, and the only way Nintendo would cannibalize sales for their games is if they put major releases rather close to each other like if they put the second fighter pass and the Pokemon DLC passes next to each other for example.

Fair points everyone. I'm definitely curious. Inb4 they advertise tomorrow that CP8 is one of the 4 champions from botw and we play a guessing game till the weekend.

I know everyone lost their minds deliberating who the ARMS character would be (3 months was too long to leave people hanging lol)... BUT I think guessing games like that are kind of fun and out of those four I would have absolutely no clue!

Hmm, so this upcoming week we could either be getting a
  • Nintendo Direct Mini/General November Nintendo Direct (perhaps bringing news on titles that have been M.I.A. for most of the year like DOOM Eternal, Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and perhaps other upcoming games including indie ones).
  • Mr. Sakurai Presents ??? (could first announce the character on a short video, and a few days later could showcase the Challenger Pack; some day that isn't Friday, November 20th).
  • Indie World Presentation (it's been a while since the last Indie World presentation so... maybe they could go for that?)
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Mini Direct or presentation (as "unlikely" it may seem, this scenario shouldn't be discarded).
Out of all those options, I hope either of the first two end up panning out. 🙏

Also, I'm just going to say it... I'm reeeeeeeally tired of people dragging QQS QQS . He's a happy and optimistic guy yet I have had like half a dozen people tell me that he unironically scares them. I don't even think the dude has gotten angry once or said a single mean thing to anyone and yet I keep having people pull my shirt sleeves about him as if he's secretly an enormous liability to the whole fanbase. Maybe part of the reason he comes off as super happy is that English isn't his first language (he's from Chile) and this is simply how he expresses himself so he can be understood here? I mean, ****... Pretty sure some people would be reduced to a squirming mess if I totally unpacked the reasons for him getting singled out but I'm not sure some of you are ready to have that conversation yet.
Just read all and thanks guys. Don’t worry if someone doesn’t like me. 30 years old man here, don’t need approval. Just spreading love to a 25 years old character that was/is a hero from my childhood in 1997. Always in the scene and support, but being in Online support just since Ultímate. Even if English isn’t native, I think I can express myself good and understand 99% of what I read. Been raised with English. My intentions are always good. If some people are scared of me, I don’t know how that can happen. You are scare of someone’s faith? So the problem is that person and not me. Don’t even care of 15-20 years old babies that blame for my faith or Heroes (Link, Mega Man, Geno and a few more). I’m just happy cause I know our man is joining in a 100% chances. Everyone here has his own story with the puppet and I enjoy reading you all. Whether some like me or not, be sure to never lose respect, bros. Cause I have never offended anyone and will never do, cause my family taught me manners.

Feel free to believe what you all want, but let people believe, dream, chase and play their own games while they are pure from heart.

Thanks to a lot people here like Fatman, Enigma, MisterMike, Griselda, and many many more (I could tag 20 people more but you know who you are) and let’s keep praying to that reveal happening sooner than later!

Only a few here can understand how a kid from 1997 will be when his last hero to join the battle, makes in into Smash after 2 decades. Making a life in between. I was a kid with no more than 7 years when I saw Geno’s Goodbye and now I’m a grown man, lawyer, son, uncle, and happy guy. My favorite character EVER left to join in my favorite game ever, which I follow since the first Smash. It will be like taking your heart out for a minute when you hear Forest Maze bells or an Awakening scene or the space.

Get your snacks on the table cause Geno isn’t forgotten. He will comeback.

Might as well put this here as a disclaimer. There's a lot of signs showing that something should be happening this week but it's not a guarantee. With insiders basically being mum since late September and the last update I've gotten being a super vague "Smash likely won't be at the VGAs", we're probably on our own for the foreseeable future. That's why I've been putting more emphasis on looking at certain things as of late so we can try to determine if certain things are worth paying attention to when predicting future presentations. This next presentation will be the first that insiders haven't openly hinted at in over two years so it's going to be frustrating trying to figure out what's meaningful and what isn't in the meantime. Still, we have this week and the first week of December. After that and nothing happens, we can reasonably not expect anything until mid January at the earliest so, at "worst", we get a Christmas vacation of sorts if literally nothing happens by December 4th.

Couple points I'd like to make.
  • Have insiders been silent for the last month or so? Yeah... but while part of that might have something to do with Nintendo cracking down a bit as people have said, maybe it's just because there's nothing really happening over the next few months? We've already gone half of November without an announcement, Nintendo's main holiday game is launching this week with the full marketing push behind it, and like you said it's not likely they announce anything the week of Thanksgiving or after the first week of December. Not to mention, we know major directs, even stuff like the partner showcases have mainly been leaking due to third parties, so I don't see why people wouldn't be in the know about a major event even if Nintendo is plugging up holes.
  • Why exactly are we ruling out the Game Awards? I'm not even talking Smash, just in general? "Well Nintendo didn't have anything last year!" Firstly, they still had No More Heroes 3 and Bravely Default 2, two games they are, especially in the latters case, blatantly interested in pushing as major titles. Secondly, really think about what they've had come out this year, what were they supposed to announce? Origami King? And I don't see them being interested in announcing another game for the super far off future when Metroid Prime 4 already blew up in their face once, and Bayonetta 3/BOTW 2 gives them enough long term fuel combined with that. I really feel like 2019 was just an off year where they genuinely didn't know what to bring and just decided to sit it out (or Byleth was going to be there originally and they decided against it, we already know they were apparently supposed to release in December).

1. It's not just insiders being quiet but not talking about Nintendo, like, at all. Even covert insiders that I'm friends with have stopped doing things like openly speculating on stuff over fears of getting in trouble. It's a much different landscape. Even when things were "slow" this year, you still had most of the big names tossing around speculation and hints of stuff they knew about. This has already been going for a month and a half now.

2. The VGAs has never been a news blowout for Nintendo. When it gets news, it's either third-party games or one big piece of news for an already announced first party game. Historically, you have Joker, Cranky, new Breath of the Wild footage and, uh, that's more or less it for first party stuff. Nintendo has never had a huge and commandeering presence at the VGAs because, outside E3, Nintendo overwhelmingly prefers to reveal stuff on its own time and own terms.

There really isn't.
I do agree with you about the Game Awards though. Another point worth mentioning is that last year was embarrassing, the Fast and Furious game being the big announcement was dumb, tone death on honestly delegitemised gaming as an art form. I imagine most big companies will want to stay away this year.

"Sir, this is a speculation thread." I've already outlined why this week is looking good based on a lot of factors:

-International presentations in November every year for the last eight years.

-Every single month this year having a major announcement of some kind.

-Presentations in all but two months this year.

-NSO update still missing despite being consistently every two months all year.

-Tons of Nintendo hosted events crammed specifically into this week.

-Retail leaks tend to pan out 2-3 months after the fact and there were a lot of Switch retail leaks in August and September.

-All except one week with multiple maintenances this entire year resulted in a presentation or major announcement of some kind.

So, yes, there's a lot based on past precedent that heavily suggests something not only something this month but this week. Not guaranteed but when is it ever? Welcome to Chaos Theory 101.

So, in the midst of tossing and turning and melting, I have come to the conclusion that this crazy heat is actually coming from inside me.

Which leads to this question: Is Geno hot? He's got a star inside him. Is magic the only thing keeping him from burning up? Are Mario-universe stars even hot?
He's probably related to Super Stars and Lumas, so no.

There isn't anything at TGA this year when it comes to Smash, Joker was a one time event, don't expect another reveal there.

Also, another seemingly random event that happened in Japan this weekend:

EmzD0FeXIAQYQAj.jpeg

EmzDzdkXYAkqk5-.jpeg

Giant Palkia and Dialga balloons were installed in a Japanese mall and nobody knows why. Coincidentally, everyone's favorite French otter briefly came out of retirement this morning to say this:

For those who can't read French (or can't find the translate button), he hard winks that another mainline Pokemon game will be announced and released within a year's time.

I've never played the Sinnoh games. Guess I'll be able to next year.

Actually, I definitely do believe that Byleth was intended to be VGA last year. TH won tons of awards and winners knew what they’d be winning well in advance. The Byleth trailer itself does not look like a typical smash trailer, rather something that you don’t assume is Smash at first (akin to Joker). VGA crowd probably isn’t as petty as the avg. smash fanbase so it would’ve been a good way to introduce Byleth.

However, i’d say the fact that it didn’t happen makes it even less likely now. Nintendo knows they have conditioned their fanbase not to expect Smash at VGA now, so why would they suddenly turn that on it’s head? I still believe FP8 has to be one of their “standout” Pass 2 characters considering it’s almost the exact middle of the pass, so I don’t see them doing a lukewarm reveal like that. History shows that third parties are announced with warning beforehand.

1) I get your point, I think that Mother 4 will be shadow dropped this week
2)This is far from a normal year
3) Not really much to say here, admittedly
4) Forgive me if I'm wrong but has the NSO announcement ever accompanied another announcement (Though I do agree that this and the next Animal Crossing Trailer are probably this week)
5) So?
6) This is fair
7) I feel like a lot of the foolishness surrounding the Smash fanbase could be resolved if people simply asked themselves: "why?" Every once in the while. It's probably just a coincidence because there is no logical reason to do this.
Also I know you didn't mention it in this post but we're not getting a Sakurai Presents, we've barely had Steve for a month.

That’s nice dear. Sakurai literally said there is a future there’s even more of them in terms of fan requests. There is nothing stopping that for Ultimate. Travis never even had high levels of demands. There is always a possibility of either way of Geno playable. You don’t decide who is better as a Mii costume if it is still missing.

EDIT: How does all of this suggest that he WILL be costume?
This is a pretty old post at this point, but I've mentioned before that I tend to take weekends off from this madhouse (among others) but I just gotta say, this is the absolutely worst response to that particular post imaginable. Is it obnoxious when people suggest the Geno mii costume is coming back? Sure. Is it a safe or healthy mindset to take an entire, decently thought out list of possibilities and throw them in the trash and respond with something virtually unrelated? No. It's ****ing desperate looking.

I must be turning into an old man because I'm tired of the word "literally" getting thrown around in cases like this because what Sakurai literally said was " This was another fighter that I received a lot of requests for – mostly from overseas. That being said, King K. Rool and Ridley were pretty fervently requested too. And as I continue to grant these requests, I can only see a future where there’s even more of them!"

The quote comes from a translated Famitsu column and boy, do I hate translated Famitsu columns. The original text is always nowhere to be found so no one else can double check these translations. I don't doubt the ability of these translators to appropriately translate the words, but I do doubt their ability to appropriately translate the meaning of the written word in a language that depends heavily on context. Even in English, the statement is ambiguous and this is probably the intention - it is such a Sakurai play. Let's rework the sentence in a few ways. To start, the original sentence:

"That being said, King K. Rool and Ridley were pretty fervently requested too. And as I continue to grant these requests, I can only see a future where there's even more of [them]."

What is [them]? Is [them] K. Rool and Ridley?

"That being said, King K. Rool and Ridley were pretty fervently requested too. And as I continue to grant these requests, I can only see a future where there's even more King K. Rool and Ridley."

There can't possibly be more K. Rool and Ridley on the way, unless the Legacy XP takedown was so they can add Ridley 2. So then... is [them] "these requests"? Or maybe just "requests"?

"That being said, King K. Rool and Ridley were pretty fervently [requested] too. And as I continue to grant these [requests], I can only see a future where there's even more [requests]."

You can look on the bright side all you want. You can contort this man's words to be good for whatever character you can possibly think of, but you can't ignore that this sentence is deliberately vague to the point that it can be interpreted in two ways. Sakurai is a master at this, and I think his forked tongue is right up there next to his "everybody wins" mentality in terms of bad traits. I've pointed out before that the Sakurai in interviews and the Sakurai in presentations are different, and he does a good job being a character, but I think there's a very real Sakurai in his humor - He can be very sarcastic. Think about the way he described the request from Nintendo to add Minecraft Steve. Compare that to the way he says other things, his statement about Mai, his acknowledgement of how much Fire Emblem we have to endure... This statement is him lamenting the fact that the requests keep coming and he can't satisfy them all. This is probably especially taxing on a guy with such an "everybody wins" mentality, like I already mentioned. He deals with it through that sarcastic sense of humor. Banjo's in, now the requests will keep coming. These noisy fans will never ****ing shut up. The best thing to ever happen to him is to have no liberty of who gets into the game, at least he can sleep well at night knowing that he can blame Nintendo for these decisions.

No character is better as a ****ing Mii costume (well, there are a few, but one of them is now a Villager echo). Only a troll says something like that. The post you quoted to reply with this nonsense? They didn't suggest he works better as a Mii costume, they suggested that the arguments point equally towards or maybe even lean in favor of a Mii costume. No one genuinely wants to see fan favorites get turned into lifeless ****ing mascot costumes to be worn by Great Value Mario, Samus, or Link, but it's a possibility we'll have to live with until something happens one way or another. This kind of faulty logic, this dodging of the truth and ignorance to the alternatives is the kind of infuriating horse **** I've tried to call out in this community for a month and instead it looks like the opinions are getting more and more galvanized rather than people keeping an open mind to the possibilities. I know this year sucked but for God's sake, are we here to discuss the possibilities or are we actually becoming the echo chamber that the GameFAQs people want to paint us as?

Failure is very sadly an option and you can't stick your fingers in your ears and pretend not to see it. Either refute the claims with facts and evidence or shrug and say "yeah I guess it's possible".

I honestly just read this as being obstinate for the sake of being obstinate. "Literally everything is a coincidence and everything exists in a vacuum. It's automatically wrong because you can't prove it 100%." Again, Chaos Theory/Law of Entropy 101. Things strive towards disorder but this doesn't render pattern recognition and observations absolutely worthless. That's the whole point of speculation: to make sense of what looks like total chaos.

On the last thing you said, the gap between Hero and Banjo was a month, the gap between Cloud and Corrin and Bayo was a month, and the gap between Plant and Joker was a month. It's ironic but 8 could literally be announced today but it wouldn't even be the shortest gap between character announcements.

Technically Hero and Banjo were 35 minutes apart
