I'm not gonna lie to you guys. Like many of you, I want new game announcements from Nintendo. But honestly Smash always takes first priority for me, it's my favorite game of all time, so what's actually killing me is the wait for the rest of the DLC fighters.
But frankly I feel much better than when Nintendo announced that we're getting a fighter from ARMS.
I hated that time period, because even though I'm no insider or anything I ****ing knew it was Min Min. I hated that I knew that but still had to wait for an official confirmation from Nintendo, I hated how many across the internet thought and believed that we'll get 4 or 8 ARMS characters in the vein of Hero/Bowser Jr.
It's like, shut up already you poser, most of who believed that never played ARMS, and they think their input is important on the matter.
They're the same guys who said "Ridley is too Big", or "K . Rool is irrelevant" and so on, continuously shooting down characters so only they're favorites remain eligible in their eyes.
They just won't stop, we've had a lot of characters that already broke these fan rules years ago with guys like Snake or Cloud, yet people still believed Ridley, K Rool, and Banjo were impossible.
And right now fans of Geno, Waluigi, and Isaac are going through the same **** because people just enjoy being pessimistic or antagonistic or whatever.
Once I get what I want I'll ditch this toxic speculation scene.

Mario presentation this week and a General next week would be pretty groovy. I dunno. Given how much is currently being held onto, I feel like Mario alone could easily get a 20-30 minute presentation, nevermind literally everything else. If Nintendo goes full Mad Lad and does like an hour long presentation that would be amazing but I kind of get the feeling that whatever E3 was supposed to be was split into multiple Directs, just like how the Spring Direct was pretty much split into three presentations and a handful of shadowdrops over the course of 4 months.
I'm just confused, why exactly are you still expecting a general within the next few weeks, or even the next few months? I understand that E3 was cancelled but what part of how Nintendo has acted for the last 5 months makes you think that they're going to put together a direct at this point?

At this point, if the Mario 3D remasters actually exist, then insiders have done a hell of a lot better job of advertising it than Nintendo has... which is just sad considering this is Nintendo's signature franchise we're talking about.
What´s ironic is that insiders have also talked about the Metroid Prime Trilogy HD for Smash for forever, yet we have heard nothing... So I´m starting to wonder if this legendary Mario combopack is actually a thing

I'm the same way. Sometimes I feel like I'm bucking the norm by being a grown ass man with a full time job who still comes home and plays video games, but I don't feel like I'm any more pressed for time than I was when I was in high school... So that said, I very much love video games and video game announcements. They are my sports, my books, my movies. Modern video games kind of suck, but there's a gem in there every now and again, and it's almost always Nintendo that makes them. No social commentary. No killer graphics. No RTX. Just gameplay.

And that said, I don't give a solid **** about Nintendo's other games this year. If they had a banger year and just put it on hiatus because it turned into 2020, that's all well and good, but it's been remakes, ports, and the ****tiest Animal Crossing since City Folk... and I'm being asked to get hype for a port of three more games I already own? Not happening, sorry. Smash is likely all they have in store for this year that I care about, and I'm fine with that - if fighter 7 is Geno, then I'm going to spend an unhealthy amount of hours in Ultimate labbing him out, the entire rest of my massive backlog be damned.

I've gone into it a lot and it's not really worth repeating myself. This is just something we disagree on and I've just quietly accepted that.

I expect some larger announcements to happen in September, given that the holidays are around the corner and if Nintendo isn't completely asleep they realize they have to sell us something cool for the season.

However I expect these will be announced in tweets or small presentations. At this point continuing to hope for a direct like grandma used to make is naive and it's getting really disappointing watching the community collectively fall all over itself every time a rumored date for one passes with nothing.

Probably due to the feature comparisons to New Leaf

Also I LOVED City Folk. I get that people thought it was too similar to Wild World, but it was definitely still a step up, plus the online was much improved.
Yeah, and sales don’t mean everything. Let’s not pretend that the pandemic didn’t help with those numbers. That said, I’m enjoying the game and have played it every day since release, but some things like tools breaking and holding back content that was in the other games from the start really bug me. It’s obvious the game still wasn’t ready for release despite already having been delayed.

I don’t think any AC will ever top the original for me though.

That's how everyone acted about the first Partner Showcase, only for it to take a little over a full month to get another.

We're not getting them one to two weeks apart from one another.
I'm just taking the safe rout here. The next time we get something will be a partner showcase (Unless we get a Sakarai presents.) I don't think we're getting a Mario direct at all.

I'd love to be wrong.

I’m confused as to why people think that Nintendo wouldn’t hold any kind of general direct.
The opportunity, exposure, and tradition of E3 is too big for a publisher like Nintendo to miss altogether.
And a general direct is key, because Nintendo’s bread and butter is their first party titles. 3rd party support isn’t as strong as it is on a ps4 or xb1.
Overall at this point they really don’t have any other choice to present some kind of general direct by the end of this year because if they don’t it sets a horrible precedence of 2021’s focus on software.

I don't think you'll find anyone here who disagrees with any of what you wrote. I think we're just sort of thinking this way because September 4th, 2019 was the last General Direct we got (not counting the shadow dropped Mini, which wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be), and historically in the past they put out at least 3 General Directs a year. I think no one here is really sure what kind of Direct Schedule Nintendo has, if any, and that uncertainty has fueled some pretty high levels of pessimism.

I imagine some form of first party news is coming within the next few weeks, but if you told me it'd be once a day Twitter announcement trailers, I'd believe you.

Strange how Nintendo hasn’t tweeted at all yet today. Aside from the fact that they take weekends off, they’re always active during the week. Has this ever happened before a big event or announcement of some kind?
Neither has the NoE or Japanese account. Combined with the continued lack of a Smash event this week (again, they've only skipped a week one time which was Hero's release, and they've only announced events later in the week when they coincided with Banjo and Terry's releases) something does feel pretty off.

The Nintendo UK account made a tweet today, though I've no idea if them tweeting anything or nothing at all means anything compared to the other Nintendo accounts, who still haven't tweeted anything yet.

What I find most interesting is that we haven’t heard a peep from any insiders (EDIT: in the last day or two since the initial Direct playlist update happened) as far as I can see. Nintendo seems to be gearing up for a reveal of some kind, in a way that we haven’t been able to see for months, but the one time we have tangible evidence that Nintendo could be up to something, suddenly its the one time that insiders are dead silent.

It’s really weird, but it’s also super intriguing at the same time

You asked for it
-Delayed for half a year only to release literally unfinished
-Animals feel somehow even more vapid and lifeless than they did even in New Leaf with the same 10-12 canned lines of dialogue
-Villagers moving away is still RNG based unless you want to wade through the bull**** paywall of amiibo cards
-Massive swathes of furniture removed for no readily apparent reason
-Furniture left in the game is mundane
-one shop upgrade for the past 6 months, making furniture a slog to acquire
-underwhelming, restrictive and clunky island designer
-returning features delivered back to us as free "expansions" to the content
-massive increase in the price of almost everything in a halfassed attempt to increase the value of bells/deflate the bell economy that can still be easily ruined by turnips
-crafting system is clunky
-massive quality of life reductions in some areas, intense need for quality of in other areas (no multi-delete of mailbox items, can't craft more than one stackable item at a time, no multi-purchase of stackable items etc)
-golden tools ****ing break when the main draw of the golden axe for 20 years was that it did not break
-event villagers give you their entire spiel every god damned time you encounter them as if it's your first time meeting them
That's just stuff off the top of my head, the stuff that really lingers with me whenever I think about the game. If I were actively playing it for more than 20 minutes, you better believe I would be able to ramble off a whole novel's worth of gripes with the game. It absolutely does not live up to New Horizons in terms of features and things to do and work towards, and in fact fails to even live up to Happy Home Designer in the most basic department of "decorating and moving in your hourse" seeing as how they took out ceiling items and the ability to slip through 1/2 tile wide spaces.

Not really? Pretty sure multiple people are hinting at the Mario Collection being revealed on the 3rd tommorrow, even Zell did in his last post before quiting a few days ago.

I think it's important to understand the level of secrecy it would take on Nintendo's part to release a supposed "Mega direct" out of nowhere like this. In the middle of a pandemic in which there was no E3 and all the insiders were getting date after date after date wrong, and your fanbase is eyeing your twitter like a bunch of kids waiting for the ice cream truck on the hottest day of the decade. For them to not only stay so quiet, but to have the balls to feed us the bread and water of not one but TWO partner showcases in a row after the first one was received about as well as a crowbar to the man-marbles...you gotta figure they must either be sitting on something HUGE (as we would like to believe) or they just really are dumb as a bag of dumb MattOnWheels's.

If this really was all some elaborate surprise, it was a damn diabolical approach, If not...It's a damn diabolical approach.

I think one of the first, if not the first, YouTube videos I ever watched was the famous Falcon Punch scene from the F-Zero anime that someone had linked proposing it as Captain Falcon’s “Brawl move” (back before the term Final Smash was ever revealed)

Ahhhh, simpler times
I believe one of the first videos I ever watched on Youtube was the 1st episode of Shippiddge's Smashtasm.

I know that Nintendo has acted weirdly this year. But I have a hard time believing that they would just shadowdropp a Mario collection which is pretty much meant as a celebration for their mascot

I highly doubt it. Wouldn't they have to make an announcement? Why would they shadowdrop something that big. Just doesn't make sense. Unless, for whatever reason, they announce a direct 3 hours from now.

They shadowdropped the last two first party game announcements, with how screwed up Nintendo's scheduling has gotten this year I don't see them revealing it any other way. Yea, they obviously meant the collection to be revealed at a larger event, likely at E3, but whatever plans they did have were scrapped months ago.

At the very least, we've had Nate and Zell hinting at something coming on the third, with Zell specifically mentioning the Mario 3D remasters.

It could mean a Mario-focused Direct, it could mean a general Direct with some Mario-related announcements, it could mean a twitter-drop for the Mario 3D remasters... it might even be yet another Partner Showcase with the Mario remasters slapped in for no ****ing reason, because we've been blindsided by those twice now and Nintendo is just that desperate to avoid talking about upcoming first-party stuff.

I have a new theory, I will put it here:

What if Sakurai and Nintendo decide to end the Smash Franchise just as how it started? I mean, putting back as the final character, the first character planned for Smash. Maybe as DLC #81 or maybe as a Bonus. I’m talking about the Pre-Smash-Project, which is called: “Dragon King: The Fighting Game”.
View attachment 284182View attachment 284183

I have read that Sakurai had to take down the previous ideas (these characters with no face) after deciding with the Team that they will use Nintendo characters to fight with each other, to give it a “soul” to the game (which was the best decision cause it’s now the best fighting game ever and a legendary/iconic/masterpiece franchise of Nintendo). The point is, that maybe to honor Iwata (RIP) or just to come full circle, reuse those old models and make it a new Full Fighter as I said as Character #81 or Bonus. Maybe one guy/girl called Dragon King/Queen with more alt.costumes and as Stage, the one called: “Ryuoh” in the Yamanashi prefecture where Sakurai himself took pics to recreate that area in the game. Also where the HAL buildings were.

Im not saying this is going to happen or that I’m rooting for this. But I actually believe it has chances. Also because it would be like the typical unexpected thing that could surprise us all and honor those times.

What do you all think? Best wishes from Chile and hope that Geno joins the party in September!
I think Captain Falcon already kind of is our Dragon King rep since his build and his moveset in Smash was obliviously based off of the old Dragon King fighters from the alpha/beta build of Smash 64.

Look, if it's out this year (and it being their big Holiday title this year seems like the route we are heading in) they have to reveal it soon. Shadowdrops are just how Nintendo is doing things for the time being it seems. If they're willing to randomly drop an entirely new game like Paper Mario on Twitter I can't see them having any issues doing the same for what's effectively a collection of slightly spruced up ports.

I can see it now.

Thursday, September 3rd, 2020, 10:00 AM.
Nintendo of America official Twitter account tweet

"In celebration to the upcoming 35th Super Mario Anniversary, we're excited to announce Super Mario 3D All-Star releasing [insert specific winter date here] to the Nintendo Switch. Revisit three classic 3D Super Mario hits; Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy, all with improved graphics and gameplay."

I have an easier time seeing them announcing a direct tomorrow then shadow dropping that, but your right

Ok so if the rumors are true and the Mario 3D Collection is being revealed tomorrow, can I let off a mini rant?

While the absence of Galaxy 2 is only a rumor, it would be very disappointing if it turns out to be the outcome and the only 3D game absent. I won’t lie that my love for the first game is stronger than the second, yet even then Galaxy 2 is an excellent sequel and undeniably has some of the best level designs ever in Mario. I‘m still holding out a little bit of hope that people are wrong about Galaxy 2 not making the cut, but it’s also something I can definitely see Nintendo doing.
