He's pretty much the only thing from Fortnite they could actually use I think, so I can agree with you on him being generic lol. It's their only option.
Fortnite-playing zoomer trash here: Jonesy is just the default skin for people who don't buy the battle pass (ie all other skins are technically premium), so while Jonesy is arguably the most "iconic" (even though their design is kinda trash imo), they could easily pull a Min Min and use one of the premium skins based on actual characters you can find in the game like Midas or Meowscles.

definitely, but what about Steve as a character? Lame as hell. Animations would be total booty.
I told this to other guy who was claiming Snake and Chief were bad choices because they are stylistically different from the rest of the roster, but what’s wrong with a character with a drastically different style? The beauty of this crossover is that we have a lot of characters with unique backgrounds. Steve’s blocky style and stiff animations would contrast him from the rest of audience, sure. But I have to ask, what’s wrong with that?

And I concur vivala that Fortnite isn’t bad either. Wouldn’t mind Jonsey even if I’m not fond of that game.

Basically someone made a guess, I told them it was a good guess and people ran with it.
Yeah but looking at it though. I feel like a good majority of these characters were bundled by you last year, but now you have the chick from Perfect Dark?

If it ain't serious, you gotta tell people when to lay off before they take it too far man. Don't let yourself get bullied to death like Buizel guy. :224:

Also, nobody is above disliking a character. You all dislike somebody...

The llama? The banana man? lmao. I appreciate fortnite as a game, but it’s cast is pretty lacking. And I’m still not sold on the idea of FPS making it in, unless they have some bizarre or alien element to them which makes it less “real”. One gun in a moveset is permissible, but Jonesey would just be sniping people on top of a bridge tower haha. To me that’s not a big deal, but it really doesn’t feel like a concept Nintendo is too fond of, or snake would have guns.

Oh for sure, and I don't think anyone disagrees with that. However, there's a difference between disliking a character and making fun of people for wanting them imo

Joanna was always part of that, he just hasn't said it until now because the contact told him to wait on it.

I think people tired of waiting by now. :072: Besides, how'd the other guy get the message? Weird ****'s going on, I'm just trying to figure out what leak of the week people are clinging onto for dear life.

No one guessed who it was, as far as I can tell. Farman said the guess had the right amount of letters but nothing else.

During one of my Smash streams the other night, I went into this whole discussion about 'cringe' or otherwise popularly dunk'd-on characters that people want for Smash, and, I'll be perfectly honest, I think it's absurdly poor taste to talk down to anybody for a character or a pick that they desire in this incredibly astounding once-in-a-lifetime video game. Whether the chances of said characters are high, low, nonexistent, or otherwise; to degrade a person over their choice of icon or avatar is wrong.

I've had people talk to me about Steve in Smash. I've had friends wonder aloud about even FNAF characters in this game. Even something as obscure as the little stick figure dude that was used to advertise Labo! It's okay for people to dream!

I specified, in particular, I think it's a lot healthier for the community (and honestly a lot more fun, IMO) to revolve the conversation around creative ways to make these characters work out, versus why someone is less than human for wanting a character from the latest-n-greatest thing. Let's shape the discussion around how something as wacky as a Tetromino could be worked in as a fighter, or how much of the gameplay from Kingdom Hearts we could pull in order to make Sora viable and interesting, or even what exactly it would take to make The Annoying Dog from UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE, er... more annoying. The list goes on and on.

I will never say "No" to someone's dream fighter, and I will never condone talking down to people over something as silly as wanting a character I personally may not find to my taste. And, frankly, I feel like this is something that needs to be heavily stressed and worked upon in order to make the environment of the community a healthier place to exist in.

I think y’all need to learn to laugh at things, smash ain’t that serious and some character speculation choices are funny in their terribleness. Probably won’t get much agreement in this thread, but whateva.

And you must admit certain people just want characters for the lolz

Perhaps it is best to move on from the Sony Mii Costume talk y'all. If it were me and someone managed to guess it, I would not go "OH S*** YOUR RIGHT!!!"

So even if we guess it, we will not get confirmation.

Anyhoo, who is ready to sweat for an announcement for a Direct next week made tomorrow?

Directs are usually announced a few days in advance.

... though, considering we just got a Direct mini that was announced literally the night before, and this supposed next one is coming just a week after, I think it's gonna be another Direct mini that is announced literally the night before.

Don't know about tomorrow on Friday...man, remember what happened last week...

That's what I read in the image that was deleted.
Fair, but Fatman also said that guess was incorrect anyway. So the point is moot.
Wait, what makes you think tomorrow?
Maintenance on Monday could point to another Direct scheduled on Monday, which everyone assumes would be announced on a Friday. Honestly, I’m thinking a Tuesday Direct to be announced on Monday. If we’re to get one at all.

He did say the guess had the right amount of characters. So maybe Ratchet?
Ratchet and Clank are owned by Sony. Again, the character is "Sony adjacent", but not actually owned by Sony.

If I had to take a guess, it's probably a third-party series like Persona that isn't owned by Sony, yet still has its games exclusively released on PlayStation consoles.

Nintendo announcing a third-party-specific Mini-Direct and then a first-party-specific Mini-Direct later instead of combining the two for one big direct sounds like a Nintendo move based on recent events tbh.

Once Geno’s confirmed, Smash speculation, for me at least, is done. Geno’s the only character that I still *need* in the game. There’s a small handful of characters I’m still rooting for, of course. But Geno’s my ride-or-die-b-word.
Same here. This is it.
Actually, what happens when Geno has his official reveal? Everyone here rejoices, a million messages flow into this thread in an extremely short period of time, and after a couple days it gets locked and everyone parts ways? People who frequent the site and have been rooting for Geno for a long time and want to rejoice longer and talk about the fighter move to a new character discussion thread?

Cringe culture really is terrible. I've mostly realized that it's young 20 somethings making fun of teenagers and people they find weird. By your mid 20's, it's kind of refreshing because people are usually less petty about this sort of thing. Most adults really don't care that much about what other people do. Mind your own **** and you'll generally be happier for it.

And if you do view this game as something very important and special (frankly I do too) wouldn’t you want even more scrutiny on which characters get selected? There’s a high bar for inclusion.
As long as the character has fans and is loved, or would be seen as cool by many - such as the characters you brought up - they’re all fine picks.

Even if someone genuinely wants Bubsy, they shouldn’t be ridiculed, as much of a joke Bubsy has been and likely would never happen.

So how old is this third party, anyway? Granted, I can't seem to find many who fit the bill.

In fact, considering how third parties can make games for other consoles, I am not sure if there is such thing as a "Sony third party", despite how some games made by some third parties were exclusive to Playstation before.

Oh people were curious about my post earlier, if you’ve been around a while and know what happens from time to time in this thread. Leaving it at that.

So ready for a Sunday midnight “announcement” y’all?!

agree to disagree on the characters I mentioned lol. But the furthest my ridicule would ever go is, as you just said, telling them that the character would likely never happen. I just try to be realistic in my speculation, even if it breaks a few hearts.

Well, there's the Star Road Discord and I myself and number of my fellow strawberry shortcake chuckle****s will simply move onto the General Geno thread until the end of Ultimate. The Geno fanbase has set up groundwork for things beyond Smash and even a SMRPG remake/sequel so I don't see it fizzling out. We'll just become the Dai Li of Smash speculation. :wario:

He said it was a character from a franchise revealed at the PS5 conference. Of the games that were announced at said conference, I can only think of one or two franchises that are both Sony-adjacent (as opposed to owner) and a big enough deal to keep secret. Resident Evil and Oddworld—of which there aren’t any characters with 7 letters in their names.

My original thought is actually Sony-owned even though this character does have a game on Android, so I’m retracting this character now.

What happens when Geno gets announced is y’all better main Geno lol.

that’s what I did with Banjo. But now all those other people who “wanted” him never actually play as him
I feel like, even if we get our Most Wanteds, it's only natural to veer off and play as other characters as time progresses, just because of the sheer amount of choices and decisions one can make for a good afternoon smackin' their favorite mascots around. Banjo has been my #1 since the Brawl days, and now that he's here, it was actually quite a while before I picked him back up a lot more seriously.

Lately, he's been my main pick for fights and arena battles, and it's certainly amusing when the people commentating on their twitch stream take note that "holy crap, someone plays as Banjo, and Banjo's kinda hype??? what??"

That said, if Geno becomes a playable character, I will most certainly be using him often enough, but I have a hard enough time deciding between 76 characters as it is, it's a certainty that I may not be selecting him 110% of the time. I'm too indecisive, really.

I generally only post here. What happen after Geno gets officially announced? This thread will move to a kind of “Fighters section” conserving all comments since post #1? Or it starts a new thread with a blank file?
