Sadly, detractors repeatedly get excused for their rudeness and toxicity because 'those fanboys were annoying first!' Doesn't matter which character fanbase it is.

Always amusing that when the guest count here spikes, its usually from people hoping to see Geno get deconfirmed and find this thread defeated. They even round people up from other sites to come here and look forward to Geno not happening, regardless if a Smash update is even about him. But its the FANS who are the only obsessed ones, yea, ok.

This is why I regret sometimes ever being in the Smash community. I hate being bullied all because I'm trying to spread awareness for a character I deeply love. I'm only 19 and I get bullied by people who are 20 years older then me. I genuinely get upset when people try to destroy my hopes and dreams, and I am hoping if Geno is coming, it better be sooner rather then later, so I don't have to deal with these jerks anymore.

I got a lot of hate myself for talking about King K. Rool for Smash on a Facebook group. Here’s a quote from when it happened almost five years ago. Don’t listen to these trolls, they are not worth your time. They have so many things that they could be doing with their time, and they choose to spend it on making others feel bad about pointless things. You can’t feed the trolls if you don’t respond, plus the joke is on them if Geno does join Smash. Hang in there.

Since the fighter ballot is coming to an end, I decided to create a fighter ballot poll for the Chicago Smash 4 community, since I thought it would be a fun way to see which characters people would be interested in for the Chicago community. (I'm not posting the poll in here until it's over because I don't want us to skew the results.) The poll is doing great and over 90 people have voted for the character they have wanted so far.

With that said, I'm well known in the Chicago Smash 4 community for being the biggest supporter there of King K. Rool for Smash 4. However, even though a few others support him and he's currently third on the Chicago fighter ballot poll, a lot of people have antagonized me for supporting King K. Rool and they also think I'm the only one that really wants him. They've said some toxic things like "Don't support King K. Tool" and "He's an ugly character", and it's really sad to see that I have to be antagonized just for liking a character.

As a Charizard main who goes to tournaments and has a hard time making it out of pools in monthlies, I just want to play as Charizard because he's my favorite character in the game and I want to push him to the limit. King K. Rool is also one of my favorite characters in video games, and he has so many legitimate reasons to be added to Smash that it's sad when people bash on me for wanting to main him too. I don't care about character viability, but I really do wish that people would stop being so negative and closed minded on which characters they want to see in Smash.

If King K. Rool does get into Smash, then the joke is on them since I never bash anyone for their character choices no matter how ridiculous they are. Some people in Chicago think characters like Knuckles and Crono are legitimate options, and even though I and many others see how unlikely they are, I never bash on them for wanting such characters because there's no reason to put others down for having a dream character. It just creates a toxic environment and makes character speculation way less fun and productive for everyone.

Does anyone else have a local Smash community where others are so negative about your most wanted character? Because it's sad that people feel the need to yell at others for something as pity as wanting a character in a video game. If a character gets into Smash, then I feel like Sakurai has seen something in that character that makes them worthwhile to add. King K. Rool has a ton of positive things going for him, so for Sakurai to say "from here on out, it will be fan-service" and then not include such a highly demanded character as King K. Rool would be a huge slap in the face to fans. If I'm really the only person who wants King K. Rool, then why is he the most requested first-party newcomer worldwide? It's so frustrating to deal with people like that, I'll literally cry tears of joy if King K. Rool gets revealed. I and many others have been waiting for so long for King K. Rool that it's got to the point where it's been a painful process, with occurrences like the Mii costume and his "irrelavance" adding fuel to the fire. Our finest hour will come soon enough, hopefully.

Not gonna lie, I love spoiling the lunch of, say, Goku for Smash people. Or even Jonesy or Steve. Cringey choices earn their detractors.

Geno’s different though because most people who don’t want him 1) have never played the game he comes from and 2) don’t understand what he’d bring the table.

if you’re gonna play the Hater game, you gotta know which choices deserve some eye-rolls

You just pointed out exactly why I don´t think Banjo on Switch is impossible. Someone said to me that they would not be surprised if Microsoft went Sega next-gen concidering their push for Gamepass, and quite frankly, I can see what he mean

I wouldn’t say Steve deserves eye-rolls. Minecraft is a good game that a lot of us grew up with.

Steve could bring a lot to the table. Jonesy could too though I don’t want him personally. Nothing about these “earn” stupid trolls and haters bothering their fans; really, no characters do.

I can kinda understand Goku being a “cringey eyeroll” with trollish detractors, since he and other non-videogame characters have been confirmed to never happen, but being a detractor is still unneeded and rude and is for the other two. Minecraft has even made a legacy for itself and is a good game, so people continuing the stupid “cringe culture” thing regarding it and its fans are frickin annoying as heck, and is annoying with other games and fanbases too as all have the “cringe” people which is always a minority.

I'd go farther and say Jonsey doesn't really deserve the hate either. Fortnite isn't anywhere near the status of Minecraft (few games are, to be fair), but it's still a wildly popular game that a lot of people like, and I don't think we should be dunking on people for wanting a character from their favorite game in Smash.

Game being popular doesn’t mean the character is a good choice. That would be why the character’s are chosen, sure, but the character themself is what should be the deciding factor.

Jonesy would bring about as much personality to the table as Corrin. (Internally prepares for hatestorm)

I can definitely see that point of view, but I think it's also reasonable to want your favorite game to be represented, even if the main character/avatar isn't particularly interesting as a character - especially if the game itself can bring out some interesting mechanics in Smash. You can rightfully disagree and argue that someone like Jonesy, Steve, or heck, even Hero are bad picks, but I don't think it warrants dunking on people.

Steve is cool imo. He’s the face of the game alongside Alex and the creeper, and some cool official artwork and animations have been made with him. Fans have done cool stuff with him, too. He’s even crossed over with a couple or so games (Super Meat Boy and Retro City Rampage). He can show personality (even if Mojang neglects to make the main game more expressive outside of blinking and body-language emotes), and the world around him infers who he is, plus he can hold thousands of pounds of gold without breaking a sweat.

If you don’t like him, that’s fine. But don’t bring stupid arguments like “they earn their detractors, they’re lame and cringe” into this. People should be allowed to bother Geno fans about that, then, if they think the same thing - but I don’t think so, either.

Not to clog the thread here, but same.


I'll add something else so my message isn't totally pointless. I don't think we should be against the idea of choosing characters to represent games. While Geno himself being cool is a big part of our support, a lot of people (myself included) put a lot of weight solely on the idea of him as a rep for the Mario RPGs.

He's pretty much the only thing from Fortnite they could actually use I think, so I can agree with you on him being generic lol. It's their only option.
