I'm genuinely curious. How would you all react if Mallow got included over Geno? Personally, I would be ecstatic because Nintendo would still finally acknowledge SMRPG, but at the same time, I would be so confused lol
Geno without a doubt should get in first because of his history with the Smash community and his long history of fan demand. But like KCCHIEFS27 KCCHIEFS27 said Mallow getting in first would be like them giving the middle finger to us. No offense Mallow fans. I do think though Mallow deserves a shot in Smash 6 if Geno makes it into Ultimate though.

I definitely wouldn't solo main Geno (I thought that's what was meant by 100% main) but I will definitely add him to my list of mains. I took really naturally to Ridley, K Rool, and Banjo, but Joker I really didn't mesh with at first. It took TONS of practice to get good with him, but it was so worth it. Same deal with Geno. If I like him right away, great! If I hate him, I'll practice until I love him anyway just like with Joker.

I came up with an idea for a Geno trailer that I could see happening in a Mario-centric Direct.

At the end of the direct, the host thanks us for watching before revealing that they have one final surprise to close things out. Fade to black. (There is no transition effect with the Smash Bros. cross forming.)
Fade to a shot of Mario, in a dense forest, wearing a determined frown. We see Bowser and Peach beside him, the former looking wounded and the latter exhausted.
A shot of a dense line of trees; we can't see what lies beyond them. Suddenly, a series of arrows flies out from them.
We see Mario expertly dodging them, and even smacking one aside with his cape, but suddenly an arrow made of blue light hits him in midair and knocks him backward.
We see figures emerging from the line of trees--Pit, Byleth, and all three Links, all with possessed eyes like the puppet fighters in the Hero trailer. They all ready their bows and fire again.
Mario grits his teeth as the arrows fly towards him, but we cut away before they hit or he does anything.
Cut to a house with a red roof. Here, we can tell it is clearly night, where the forest was so dense that it would have been dark even in day.
Cut in to the house, and we pan across the floor, seeing toys of Mario, Peach, and Bowser, as well as an open toy chest.
Hold on the chest as a spark of light descends from above and flies into the chest. Heavenly light starts to shine on the chest.
Pull in closer to the chest, as we see a wooden hand reaching from inside and grabbing the edge of it.
Cut back to the forest, where Mario, Peach, and Bowser are all in visibly worse shape.
We see the archers ready their bows again (with particular emphasis on Byleth's more impressive charging animation) before firing.
We hold on the arrows as they fly through the air, but suddenly a beam of light erupts from the side, obliterating all of them.
We quickly see the Mario characters and the archers jerk their heads towards the source of the beam, which appears to be a silhouetted figure holding out a cannon-shaped arm out as a bright light quickly fades from the tip.
We get a brief shot of Mario, looking shocked, then giving a happy smile at the new arrival.
We cut closer to the figure, which allows us to see him in his full glory. He lowers his arm cannon, and splash text quickly follows: GENO AWAKENS!
(If applicable, gameplay goes here, though I could see this being exclusively a cinematic teaser.)

The archers, angry at the new arrival, leap into the air towards him, seemingly choosing to use their melee weapons instead.
Geno leaps upward slightly and flips, transforming into a cannon and aiming upward at the attackers. He uses Geno Flash, launching a powerful red/orange/yellow explosion that envelops all of them. At the end of the explosion is a burst of white.
The Smash Ultimate logo appears, which quickly transitions into "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate X Super Mario RPG" (with "A New Partner" playing as the Mario RPG logo appears.)
Whenever I read a trailer idea I keep visually imagining it and, man, there's just so many ways they could make this trailer. For sure though I think the trailer should revolve around the star spirit possessing the Geno doll in a bedroom

I feel like between checking back here, the other stuff I have to do, and sleeping poorly, my days have just blurred into one long cycle of 'try to sleep, then get up. Do something. Has Geno been leaked yet? Try to sleep, then get up...'

Okay, fun little Geno-related but not-Smash question

Say Geno got into Mario Kart, or Mario Tennis, or any spin-off game with class divisions. What would Geno be classed as?

Geno is absolutely lightweight. It's why he's pretty fast but can't take a hit very well.

Imagine if the trailer starts off in the room in the Smash 64 intro and you see a Geno doll on the table come to life.

Do you ever sit and think about how wild and unironically insane this wait for Geno has been?

-Geno was part of the Seven Squares leak in August 2018.

-Geno's part of the Grinch Leak in October 2018.

-NoA ambassador says Geno rumors were common in November 2018.

-Starling picture leak in July 2019. NoA ambassador guesses it may relate to Geno but was never given a solid answer.

-SMRPG music takedowns in July 2019.

-Mii costume leaks in July 2019.

-Geno's Mii costume missing in Hero's pack in July 2019.

-Rumblings of additional content after the Fighter's Pass starting in August 2019.

-Additional content confirmed in September 2019.

-A full second season rumored in December 2019.

-A full second season with 6 characters confirmed in January 2020.

-Covid-19 starts hard-hitting the world in March 2020.

-E3 cancelled March 2020.

-Nintendo announces delays because of Covid-19 in March 2020.

-35th Super Mario anniversary rumors starting March 2020.

-6 is delayed a full two months, was supposed to be an April 2020 release.

-Polish Amiibo leak in May 2020 showing Mario and Square Smash Amiibo rereleasing in September.

-Trials of Mana spirit event in May 2020.

-No E3 presentation in June 2020.

-Octopath Traveler spirit event in July 2020.

-July presentation delayed not once but TWICE and split up into multiple parts without anyone being told.

-Geno's Mii costume still missing as of July 2020.

-SMRPG still missing on the NSO, making it one of literally two notable first party franchise SNES games still missing as of July 2020.

-Square teases major announcements coming in July and August. Barely has announced anything in July so far.

-Jeff Grubb, Andre Seger, and Imran Khan all teasing an eventual Geno reveal in July 2020.

-Super Mario 35th anniversary is in roughly 8 weeks. Not a single announcement has been made yet.

-Miserably strong evidence at this point that Geno really is pack 7 and character 77.

-Nintendo releases yet another statement in late July 2020 that there will likely be more delays .

Has God abandoned us or does he even exist? Is this all part of some divine plan? Retribution? Salvation? Would we be able to tell the difference at this point? If you whittle down a man's soul into nothing, is the cold wind that blows through his husk of a broken body music to God's ears? Like Geno, are we just forgotten scarecrows in an ever expansive field, exposed to the elements and the crows that peck and scratch until we are reduced to tatters? Does God smile or is our total destruction not enough? Our sins are too great and, somehow, we always knew this. Hell isn't a place, dear friends, it is unfulfilled anticipation and expectations and we are its ambassadors. God help us, Genobros, but he will not... He will not...

Geez Fatman you could have just likened being a Geno fan to the following picture and we would have gotten the point:

The answer is quite simple. Geno is never coming, but there will be a consistent stream of rumors and hints that keep him just outside of our grasp, a fuzzy shape on the horizon that we can just make out, if only we could get a little closer. This way, we remain preoccupied with the notion of Geno's eventual release, and never wake up from the simulation.

Using another meme I unabashedly stole from the 4chan thread where I was living rent free in people's minds the other night, Sakurai to Geno fans:

I will main Geno. There is no but.

Maybe with a secondary if need be, but no matter how good or bad he is, or how he fits my playstyle, I've waited too long to just only use him for fun. Not like I plan on getting into the PGR anytime ever regardless of my character, so ey.

Plus he'll naturally have at least SOME zoning tools which means he at least avoids bottom tier

Not sure if it's been shared here or not, but I found this pixel art of Geno and Mallow and I thought y'all might like it as much as I did:

There was a problem fetching the tweet

I'm currently taking a break from speculation, but I might make a few more laid-back posts like this in the meantime.

If Geno gets into Smash, he will probably be a new main for me. I've been struggling to find ways to keep the game fresh. But if we are talking about other characters I will continue to sink a ton of time in, they would include Mega Man, Mario, Wii Fit Trainer (Love these buffs), Wario, Terry and Mii Gunner. Maybe I will start learning some things with Captain Falcon as well with the changes he got.

But I will probably sink so much time with Geno that I bet I can double my hours with current most played character in a couple of months.

I imagine Geno would be just my style playstyle wise. Most of the characters I play are zoners and I have a hard time seeing him as anything else. Kind of feel like I've subconsciously prepped for this for years because I doubled down on projectile users in Smash 4 with Villager, Wii Fit, and Megaman.

If I had to make an educated guess, Geno or whomever FP7 is would likely be revealed no later than the 17th of August, assuming the amiibo release dates and the times pointed out by Let Geno Smash Let Geno Smash the other day are any indication

Has anyone ever thought about the aftermath of Geno getting in? Imagine he gets some gimmick power meter or something like other DLC characters and just becomes another hated projectile character?

Basically how I felt about Banjo & Kazooie before we found out their moveset. They turned out pretty fun for me, and they might not be top tier, but they’re probably not bottom either.

Geno can't be high tier, he serves a higher authority.

...

I'll see myself out. I'll just go over all that Nintendo has told/revealed to us for the last several months.

...

Well that was quick.

I suck at Smash and I've promised myself to become a Geno main no matter what, so his moveset is definitely going to be extremely complex :mybodyisreggie:

People are going to be salty no matter what. I don't think there's a Smash character that people were universally enthusiastic about since K. Rool and he's needed buffs almost every other patch because of how bad he was out of the box.

I'm genuinely curious. How would you all react if Mallow got included over Geno? Personally, I would be ecstatic because Nintendo would still finally acknowledge SMRPG, but at the same time, I would be so confused lol
Definitely not going to happen bro. I like Mallow also but standing face to face in terms of Smash Demand, Mallow has like less than 5% for me and Geno more than 95%. If one of them is going to be playable, it’s definitely Geno. Though don’t get me wrong cause I like Mallow also and totally root for him in some other form; but Geno is the one here. The one acknowledged by Sakurai, the face of SMRPG (it’s his quest), and the one demanded for about 2 decades. In conclusion both of them are great and lovable, but Geno has to make it.

Though I believe Geno is coming playable 100% and Mallow as a Costume (maybe Premium) and summoned in Geno’s Final Smash. Of course both of them playable would be great but that’s not going to happen; only Geno playable is a 100% fact for me.

So basically we’re like Tantalus from Greek mythology, trapped for eternity hungry and thirsty with food and water surrounding us but always just out of reach.

Lol I remember that there was actually a period where people thought K Rool was "Broken" and he got some unnecessary nerfs early on cuz people just complained instead of learning the match-up...

Personaly, I remember pre Wii U Little Mac. The unneceasary nerfs he got are still something that makes me sad.

I don't play Smash Competitively, so i couldn't care less if the character is "tOP TieR" or whatever. Tier Lists are nothing but **** from competitive players who believe certain character is "better" than other because it's played more.

I care more if a character feels like from its source games. Wario is seemingly High Tier in Ult, but the lack of Wario Land moves kills most of my interest in him. Simon is usually regarded as underwhelming, but he's exactly how i pictured him joining Smash (EVEN THE SUPER CASTLEAVNIA 4 CRAWL!) and therefore he's my number 1# choice.

That will likely mean i will not see "cool" yotube montages, but that's mostly a bonus if anything.

What typically happens with new characters:

"OH MY GOD, I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ADDED (INSERT CHARACTER HERE) IN SMASH!"

*Character actually comes out*

A. "Wow... This character is too weird/complicated for me..."

B. "Wow... This character is broken but I hate their playstyle..."

C. "Wow... This character sucks..."

They've been pretty good with balancing DLC characters so far, and I can say that none of them are definitively trash tier or anything. Joker is considered the best, but there was a small period after release where people were claiming he's mid tier. Hero, Banjo, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, all have their strengths and weaknesses and with the exception of Min Min (who has no real data) most of them are considered to be mid tier or low high tier.

I personally think Geno will probably be around the same strength. Even if he comes with a gimmick like timed hits, he doesn't seem like a character that would be super hard to balance. I imagine he'd play similarly to Ness or Young Link, he'd be pretty fast and deal a lot of damage; but he'd have trouble actually killing and in exchange for that he himself would likely be pretty easy to kill.

He'd probably be mid to high tier. which is enough for 90% of the players to do good as him.

I also consider myself a zoner/distance Smash player since Smash 64. Would love to play against you, Fatman. Would you accept the challenge against my babies: Toon Link & Mega Man? Not necessarily now but if you are interested I would love to share Switch codes and coordinate for another day on weekend probably!

If Geno's anything like the Legacy XP moveset it'd be great, and even if not, I already play Mega Man a lot who's projectile heavy anyway.

I wouldn't be mad if Mallow got in over Geno. I love the two about equally. Hell, I could see myself having more fun with Mallow since he's got stretchy arms. Mallow's just so cute and lovable ^-^ I would, however, be thoroughly flummoxed if they added Mallow first. Just doesn't make sense to get the rights to, and put all the work in making a SMPRG character, only to turn around and ignore the far more fan-requested one.

I can't see Geno being a bad character, how good he is depends on how they handle certain things but in general just looking at his basic stats and how he'd likely be portrayed in Smash, he's mid-tier at the lowest. He's going to have atleast one, possibly two projectiles (though how they handle Geno Beam is an entirely seperate question, we don't really have any solid beam attacks in Smash somehow, it's not like it's a projectile like Rob's Laser, it's a solid blast more like a Kamehameha than anything else, how would reflecting it even work?) and if they handle Geno Whirl like we think they will one of them will be pretty strong. Given he's far and away the fastest party member in Mario RPG, he's going to have a pretty fast running speed. I'd assume he's also be pretty air mobile but that depends on how they handle his jumps, I've always thought they would give him the same kind of floaty double jump Ness, Lucas, and Mewtwo have but they might not. At the very least he'd be a bit floaty and on the lighter side, and whether or not that's a good thing kinda depends on the matchup.

If/when Geno gets in, how many of you will 9.9 his classic route?

I will definitely.
Probably all people in this thread will squeeze Geno to its limits. 9.9 route, Main him, buying the amiibo, using it againsts CPU, friends and online.

That amiibo will be so amazing :’)
An official Geno figure after 25 years (cause the amiibo for sure will come in 2021) would be epic.

God Nintendo please reveal to us #7 and #8, and let Geno be one of them and we would never bother you again hahaha :3

My guess is that in the base, he will be a lighter Mega Man, but with the essence of Rob, Ness/Lucas within his moveset (to explain it in the most simplistic terms possible)

The thing is that stats in game don't really mean much when they translate it to Smash. It's not like Sonic where being fast is his core identity. I do think he has a good chance to be fast, but I think it'd be closer to Young Link tier fast rather than something like Fox or Mewtwo.

Like if they accurately translated stats from game to Smash all the time, then Ike would be the fastest FE character in the game as he nearly always gets attack and speed on leveling (Same with Byleth, while Roy would be bad). But instead they decided to make him a slow but powerful FE character. So to me, Geno doesn't necessarily have to be fast. He'll likely have above average speed and around average attack, with Geno Whirl maybe being a exception. But again, who knows how they implement his skillset. For all we know, Geno whirl will end up like PK FLASH 2.0 AKA a really STRONG move; but realistically speaking, you probably wouldn't ever use it because of startup/endlag.

When I think of Smash characters who Geno would probably play similar to, obviously Mega Man comes to mind. The next that come to mind are Young Link, Toon Link, and Fox for speed. All high tier characters, so I doubt Geno will be lower than that. He'll be small and fast, which lends itself well to characters being successful (see: Pikachu, Joker, Squirtle, ZSS, Sonic). There are some fast characters who aren't as good, but I don't think Geno will be plagued by their drawbacks (he won't be bad in the air like Mac, won't lack range like Kirby and Pichu, won't self-damage like Pichu). Depending on how timed hits are implemented, Geno could even end up a top tier if timing your attacks gives better damage/combos/kill power

If/when Geno gets in, how many of you will 9.9 his classic route?

I will definitely.
I'll shoot for a 9.9 for sure! Might even see if I can score 2 million with him if I ever feel like going back to that grind (getting 2 million is a challenge I attempt sometimes. I've done it with Yoshi, Bowser, Wolf, K Rool, and Piranha Plant)

In my personal opinion, I don't like to look at tier lists. I'm in the minority when I say this, but I main a character if I have some sort of history with the character. I don't care if a character is overpowered nor underpowered. As long as I have some history with that character, that is enough of a reason for me to consider maining that character. Not only that, but tier lists greatly ruined the hype I had for many characters. Back in base game before Banjo's reveal, I was a King K. Rool main, and I couldn't talk to one single person about my main without them trashing me because I don't main some OP character. Same with Banjo. Some people consider Banjo to be the worst DLC character competitively and whenever I tell people I main Banjo, they tell me he is trash and that I should main a character who is OP. I just don't like feeling like I am being made to choose a character to main that I don't want to just because they break the game. Not to mention the fact that tier lists are overly bias anyways since pro players will always rank their mains higher then they should be.

If Geno happens to be the worst of the worst, I will not care one bit. As long as he is in the game, that is fine with me and he will still be one of my mains.
